Goldfinch Cottage is a spacious four-bedroom, two-bath home in a quiet residential neighborhood—perfect for families, groups, or anyone seeking a peaceful retreat close to both beaches, naturem and Newburyport’s historic downtown.

The house is, unfortunately, not wheelchair accessible because of two steps from the ground to the main floor, and narrow interior doorways.

• Security camera located outside the front entrance directed at the entry and driveway. Note: no cameras or recording devices inside the house.
• Detectors in the house and cabana (called Minut) monitor the house for noise, humidity, and smoke without any kind of recording.

• 7 minutes to Plum Island, with its beaches and large nature reserve,
• 45 minutes to Boston
• 3 minutes to Newburyport Commuter Rail station.
We recommend cars or bikes to help you get places during your stay, there isn't much within walking distance.
Even though the house is in a suburban area, it's close to nature and there is plentiful wildlife in the area. Beyond our neighbors across the street and behind us is open land that leads to marshes and forests. Guests should expect to see insects, spiders, and other wildlife during their visit. We do not spray or put poison except to control dangerous or destructive pests. The area is known for a high risk of mosquitoes/biting insects, especially during late spring and summer months. Some mosquitos may get into the house when doors are open. This is outside of our control.
PROPERTY ACCESS: Guests have access to the entire property except for a few locked storage closets.
• The closet in bedroom 1 is a locked owner closet. Guests using this room have suitcase stands, wall hooks, and a nearby hall closet.
• People who look after the outdoor spaces (e.g., gardeners and snow removal workers) may be working on-site during your stay.
PEACE OF MIND / INSURANCE
• Your booking includes damage protection insurance, covering accidental damage such as spills or broken items. Please let us know immediately about any accidental damage during your stay.
• As a small family-run vacation rental property, we cannot offer refunds outside our cancellation policy. • We recommend travel insurance for unexpected cancellations. You can purchase this when booking.

I’m originally from Boston and spend time in the area when I can. I’ve always enjoyed setting up spaces where people feel comfortable spending time together. My family enjoys time together in the cottage when we can and we like knowing that our guests enjoy it when we can't be here.

We chose this property for the location near Plum Island and Newburyport. Our family has visited the area on day trips for years, mainly for the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island. We've always wanted to be able to spend more time in the area.

This property uniquely combines convenience, comfort, and natural beauty. The location is close to both Plum Island beaches and Newburyport's busy downtown with plenty of private outdoor space. It's situated on a generous lot in a family neighborhood.
The sunny, open floor plan and spacious outdoor area includes the following spaces:
DOWNSTAIRS
- Living room with cozy electric fireplace, Samsung Frame TV with Roku
- Dining room with seating for eight
- Spacious kitchen with small counter table, cookware, and many small appliances (e.g. blender, small rice cooker)
- One downstairs bedroom and bathroom
UPSTAIRS
- Three additional bedrooms. Two with queen beds and one with two twin XL beds
- One recently-remodeled bathroom
- A laptop-friendly desk in one bedroom
OUTSIDE
- Large fenced yard, accessible from the kitchen,
- Lounge area with wood firepit
- Spacious deck with a large dining table and gas heater,
- Gas barbeque grill,
- Covered outdoor bar area
- Basketball hoop in the driveway
- A meadow surrounded by pollinator-friendly plants, attracting birds and wildlife.
