Peaceful spot next to the ocean

Although the apartment was atop a garage, it was actually a lovely well-appointed accommodation with a large open plan living and dining space adjoining a small kitchen. The bathroom shower is roomy and features grab bars and a seat which I appreciated. The proximity to the open ocean is the main attraction of this property and the hosts feature great views through a large picture windows and a lovely deck overlooking the ocean and the rocks.The property is located in a quiet wooded community next to the ocean a few miles north of Pemaquid Point. The area is a thriving community with an ice cream stand and local general store and a few artists studios, but it is not a touristy place with too much traffic. Damariscotta is about 20 minutes away for all the “big city” wants like the excellent Rising Tide Co-op grocery, a bookstore, an old fashioned department store, and several great restaurants. This little jewel of a place is the perfect home base to explore the midcoast area.

I’m sorry to have to leave a poor review. I’ve been using VRBO for years without issue. But this rental wasn’t acceptable. The mattress pad had stains and all the pillows were disgustingly stained to the point where I didn’t want to touch them let alone lay my face on them for a week. I The furniture was very dated and worn out. Sitting on the couch felt like you were sitting on the floor. And while I know that no one controls the weather, the heat and humidity was so bad in there I had to move my Mother elsewhere, I myself had to get a hotel room for two nights as it was unbearable. They did provide two window fans and one box fan, but it wasn’t near enough. Maybe if there were additional windows that could be opened a cross breeze may have been possible…but there were only two small windows that opened on the ocean side and two in the bedroom. I kept all the shades drawn all day to try and keep the heat from building in the unit but it didn’t help much. I was also unhappy that though I booked through VRBO the rental was managed through a 3rd party. No where on the VRBO listing was this mentioned. I reported the issues with the bedding and the rental agency said they would tell the owners. When I asked if new pillows and mattress covers were going to be provided they said the owners wouldn’t be back until Saturday?? Well that’s great since our rental ends on Saturday morning. I spent as much money on this rental as I would on 7 nights in a 250 a night hotel. Very poor.
