The stay was severely impacted by inaccessibility, safety hazards, and non-functioning essential amenities, making the property unusable as advertised. After traveling over eight hours from Copenhagen and then taking an Uber from Newark, I arrived and attempted to access the unit using the provided codes. While the main building door opened, the second door’s lock did not function, appeared to have a dead battery, and another lock required a physical key. No keys or instructions were provided. Vrbo customer service was unreachable by phone, chat routed only to an automated bot, and the owner provided no emergency contact. I eventually reached the owner’s wife using the number listed as the WiFi password, who instructed me to try alternate doors and even suggested using “any key,” which was unsafe and unrealistic. It took over 1 hour and 10 minutes for someone to arrive, and it was not the person previously mentioned. The keys brought did not work, and entry was ultimately gained by climbing through an open window. Inside, there were serious safety issues: multiple windows could not be locked, the fire alarm had no battery, the main door lock was unreliable, and the stair railing was unattached. The heating was inadequate despite outdoor temperatures of –2C, leaving the unit cold throughout the stay.I was delayed over 1.5 hours, exposed to unsafe conditions, and stayed in a unit that was not secure or properly heated.
