This house is perfect for family getaways. The gourmet kitchen boasts a *gorgeous* 4-oven AGA, the king of British country stoves, and there are two primary suites (one with a king upstairs, one with a queen downstairs), plus 2 bedrooms with 2 twin beds each, enough to fit the whole family - or two!

Have coffee on the porch or grill out and sit by the fire pit and roast marshmallows in the back. Enjoy the country summer in the Berkshires!

Rustic getaway

Beds were very comfortable, towels were clean and fluffy, beautiful property and landscape in an older style home. House equipped with window AC units except in downstairs bedroom (which can get a little hot if you don’t leave the bedroom door open).

Family retreat in the Berkshires

Plenty of space inside and out, outdoor firepit and grill, good wifi connections, close to enticements of Great Barrington other Berkshire attractions. We were six, enjoyed trying to cook on an Aga; our hosts were helpful when needed. House a bit weathered, and location was not far from a road that could be busy, but all in all we were happy.

Beautiful home and beautiful surroundings

We loved using the Aga, what a fun experience! The house is beautiful and comfortable with plenty of space for everyone. Great tubs! We enjoyed the firepit and watching all the little planes from the nearby airfield. Location is close to downtown Great Barrington which is so lovely as well. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

Great family vacation house!

My husband and our two daughters, ages 2 and 9 months rented the house for the month and had the best time! The house itself is super kid friendly, amazing kitchen and eating area and lots of space for the kiddos to roam. Yard was wonderful, our 2 year old LOVED the tree swing. Convenient location to Great Barrington, and so many outdoor activities.

Great Home!

Well appointed house! Can see multiple couples, families, kids staying here for get togethers, plenty of space to spread out! Such neat areas within and outside the home. Loved the special touches and communication with the hosts was great!

Winter ski house for family and friends

We rented this house for five weeks during the winter to primarily use as a base for skiing. It was very spacious for our family of five, allowing us to have room for a few friends to stay with us. We really enjoyed the open kitchen/dining/living area and 3.5 bathrooms. Mickey and Elisa were very responsive to any questions/issues and were available as hosts.

Great place for a family! Classic farmhouse with plenty of space

My family and I had a great stay here this summer. We enjoyed the location - close to downtown GB - as well as the property. The house conveys a feeling of living in a farmhouse a century ago, albeit one with modern conveniences like a/c and tv. I have to admit, the AGA cooker took some getting used to, but it's really neat. The owners are super easy-going and helpful. All in, a terrific experience in (my favorite part of) the Berkshires.

Comfortable and spacious farmhouse

We loved spending the weekend in this house. It was clean and spacious. The heart of the house is the open kitchen with a beautiful view to the back of the property. Cooking on the Aga was a fantastic experience. This property is centrally located making easy to visit many different areas. The hosts were great, though we didn’t have any reason to reach out as everything was perfect. We hope to return in the future.

Away from it all

When you need a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this could be the place for you. This Victorian farmhouse is spacious and welcoming to pets and extended family. It does not promise luxury but it does offer a comfy front porch and multiple rooms. We had a very relaxing time here over the past two weeks. The property is well situated near Great Barrington. And the landlords (Mickey and Elisa) were very responsive to every issue that arose!

Beautiful old farmhouse

Went out to visit our oldest son, daughter and law and grand daughter that recently moved to the area. Rented this to allow enough space for us all to hang out a few days. Property manager was very nice. Checked in via text to see if I needed anything. Even left me a very nice note and bottle of wine. Top Class for sure! Thank you

Great base for graduation

We stayed here when our daughter graduated from a nearby school. One of our guests was in a wheelchair and except for the door into the house and the door into the first floor bedroom she was able to be wheeled throughout the first floor making it an enjoyable stay. The house is charming and old. It is a farmhouse as the title states and we weren't expecting fancy. The perks of the Subzero refrigerator and an Aga were kind of a surprise. I've never cooked on an Aga and the owners left a great little sheet instructing us how to use it. If we ever have an occasion to come back to the Berkshires I would definitely stay here.

In 2010, Mickey and I were living in Park Slope, Brooklyn in a 3rd floor walk-up apartment with our 4 kids. We loved city life, but we were longing for a rural retreat. For over a year, we visited little towns outside of NYC whenever we could. No place we visited felt right, until late 2011, when we rented a house in Sheffield for the weekend and instantly fell in love with the Berkshires. It had the right mix of farms and coffee shops, locals and tourists, history and modernity that we were looking for.

We ended up moving up full-time in the fall of 2012, and Mickey went down to the city three days a week for work. In 2014, we bought a fixer-upper built in 1838 in Egremont and turned the 2-acre property into a little homestead with chickens, ducks, and sheep.

In 2020, we had another baby (and then again in 2022!). In 2021, we bought a property in Stockbridge (also a fixer-upper!). The main house was built in 1780 and was a stagecoach stop between Hartford, Connecticut and Albany, New York (before Interstate-90 cut Hill Road in half in the mid-1950s and created South Hill Road).

We now have 6 kids and have just built a new house in Stockbridge (if you’d like to see how 3 college kids, plus our 19-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son, built that house over the summer of 2024, check out my blog at modernshaker.com!).
