Esta casa de playa de dos pisos en la hermosa isla Shelter con cinco dormitorios, tres baños, una chimenea, dos amplias terrazas privadas y una vista de la costa. Ideal para familias, parejas o personas solteras. La isla tiene varias playas, oportunidades para pasear en bote, pescar, practicar golf, rafting, tenis, música, etc. Es ideal para el ciclismo, observación de aves, etc.

Great spot and comfortable house

We enjoyed the proximity to Hay Beach and the comfort of the house. We had everything we needed to enjoy our week on the island. A great place to stay.

Overall we enjoyed our time in Kate home. The bathing beach is a 10 minute walk, but you can purchase a day permit. The area is beautiful!

Excellent location

Our family, including our dog, thoroughly enjoyed our week at this home on beautiful Shelter Island. This very comfortable property has everything you need to enjoy your stay. Although there is plenty to do on the island, we had our boat in Southold for the month, and enjoyed excellent weather during the week. So on most days, after a long day of boating and fishing, it was a real pleasure coming back to this home for a BBQ in the backyard and a nice evening spent with the family. We highly recommend this property.

Not again

It was only okay, a few reasons. Down stairs was musty, the office chairs had some mold on them. There was something leaking from above the washer/dryer. I told Kate and she said it was the A/C so we could not use the A/C the final day. And also could not start the laundry. None of the bedrooms had window screens in them, so you could not get any fresh air. I would not rent this house again, I also think it is to expensive for what I got out of it.

Beautiful Setting

Surrounded by evergreens, this roomy house accommodates a multigenerational group comfortably. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable. The two decks allowed us to enjoy the outdoors without being of top of each other. The beach across the street from the house is rocky and not conducive to swimming or sun bathing. However, a couple of sandy beaches are a short drive away. A parking pass for $50 is required. There are several good restaurants, but barbecuing and cooking is easy to do. We had six adults, two dogs, and a baby. All enjoyed our vacation!

Haybeach House summer 2020

The house was large enough for my group and clean. I have some concerns about renting again with this owner. The home itself needs attention. The outside decking is very weak and unsafe in areas and needs to be replaced immediately. The top step on the back of the house is breaking away. The gutters are clogged.And the house needs a good power wash. We couldn’t use the outside the picnic umbrella because it was broken. On the interior, The stairwell needs a railing. Finally there is mold in the lower half of the house. The smell is over powering and is deemed uninhabitable.

Hi Trish, Many thanks for the review which is much appreciated and will be corrected. We now have a new deck at the from and back of the house. A railing has been installed on the stairwell as well as a humidifier. We had the house inspected for mold and found non, what you describe as mold was the result of a non working humidifier and that has been replaced. All your concerns have been looked into and corrected and the house has been recently decorated. Thankyou for helping us make this a great vacation experience.

Better Upkeep

The house is lovely and has the potential to be an amazing vacation home on this magical island. However, during our stay we encountered many small challenges that could have been easily taken care of if someone was properly looking after the house. For instance, one of the bedroom doors locked if you closed it and could not be opened unless someone opened it from the outside. We tried to get this fixed during our two week stay but no one took care of this issue. Also a lot of the rooms did not have working lightbulbs, and there were no light bulbs in the house for us to replenish the dead bulbs. And lastly, a lot of the kitchen supplies were either outdated or just broken and did not work. Despite these "household" issues, we had a lovely stay in Shelter Island and were very happy to get some time in the sea.

Thankyou Stephanie, for your feedback. I do acknowledge the handyman was unavailable to fix the door or change the light bulbs as a result of some personal emergency. And with regards to the kitchen utensils, there are extras in the cupboard which you could have used if you found them. On my side I would have appreciated your leaving the house a little cleaner than you did. There was garbage in every room, laundry strewn allover the house and an overall poor use of the facility which was against the house rules. The state in which you left the property was especially challenging for the cleaners during this period when we all need to be extra cautious. Almost very good

The house is really as described, very well located and functional. Overall is good but we have been in bad luck with the cesspool that had problems. Kate sent plumber and reacted very quickly, which we did appreciate. The guys had to come back 2 times but the second time everything was in order and we have been able to enjoy the end of our stay. I say almost very good because the house is really nice, a lot has been done already in it, new bathrooms, doors, washing machines. The terrace outside needs some repair still and a deep cleaning and sorting of the closets has to be done. Also, needs more equipment to clean during the stay (broom, mop). We had to use the sleeping sofa and it hadn’t been open for a while and we had to deeply vacuum it. And under the sofa itself it needed also to be cleaned. Other than that, the overall cleaning was good (bathroom, rooms and kitchen) so if these little points were fixed we would be more than happy to come back !

Amazing secluded getaway with 3 kids, would definitely love to come back...

My family consists of myself, husband and three children ages 7, 5 and 3.. this house was close to perfect for us. The only reason I say 'close' is because it could use a swing set in the backyard to send them out to play on for a few hours.. they didn't really miss it, I did more so for the peace and quiet of the downtime I can enjoy at home with them running around outside. I have never done a vacation like this with everyone and this was the perfect spot for us. Secluded in the very beautiful Hay Beach section of Shelter Island. An easy ride off the Greenport/Shelter Island ferry and 10 minutes from town where we were able to go food shopping for things we forgot to bring at the local IGA. There are tons of options for beaches and the pass to park at all of these beaches is very affordable for the week. The island is very easy to navigate and the ferry is accessible at all times of the day to head to the mainland if necessary. The house was very clean and had absolutely EVERYTHING we needed to cook and clean up after ourselves. There is an amazing open space downstairs, access to laundry, fridge, dishwasher, stove and microwave. My favorite part was the island in the kitchen were I was able to cook in the kitchen and serve my three kids right across the table. It was VERY convenient. The bedrooms had great storage, the house had great climate control and having three bathrooms, two with full sized bathtubs, made the evenings when we returned home easy for everyone. Kate was very responsive to all my questions and made sure we settled in well and knew where everything we needed was in the house, almost like she was there with us. I definitely recommend this house if you're looking for a quiet, worry-free vacation. We will definitely be back.

lovely home

The pictures do not do it justice. It has new bathrooms and a new kitchen. there is no outside picture of the house on VRBO and it is very pretty and bigger than expected. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean when we arrived. Since it is a one block walk to the beach, we did not use the outdoor decks nor backyard. We hope to return again.

Proximity to the beach was key

The location of this house is great. Hay Beach is the best beach on Shelter Island and it was a quick walk from the house. While there were a few maintenance issues that popped up during our stay, Kate was always easy to reach. Even when the power went out in a storm. There was enough room for our party and we spent a lot of time on the back deck.

Can’t wait to go back!

My family and I enjoyed a relaxing 4 days at Kate’s place. For all of us it was not only our first time booking a home but also visiting Shelter Island. Both experiences exceeded our expectations. The house was great, open with great light, and extremely comfortable for our group of 8. The house is wonderfully located just mins from everything the IGA market, the town center and most importantly the beach. Kate was super prompt in her communications and We can’t wait to make another visit to this wonderful island and home. Kate thank you for a wonderful time.

Shelter Island wedding

Roomy and comfortable.

My immediate family and extended family truly enjoyed their vacation here. Over the course of nine days, twelve people stayed here although not all at one time. The three bathrooms were tremendously helpful and the kitchen had everything we needed. Some renters have commented on the driveway. It is a challenge for typical sedans. The foot of the driveway is very uneven and not sloped like the rest of the driveway and after we scraped the bottom of those cars once we never went up again. Trucks and SUVs do fine. The location is lovely and the close by boat ramps make for a very nice beach walk or visit without having to take your car.

Wonderful property!

This property was beautiful, spacious, well-appointed, with a delightful walk to the beach. It was ample room for our party of 8, and we took home many wonderful memories. The bathrooms were clean and large. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked and we prepared most meals at home. We loved it!

House size was great, but had a lot of deferred maintenance and was dirty.

Driveway is dangerously sloped, broken concrete and overgrown with trees. Could cause damage to lower profile cars. Both front & back doors were broken and difficult to lock. Porch lights were out. Master bath sinks need to be snaked - super slow to drain. House had not been cleaned even though I was charged a substantial cleaning fee. Sour laundry was left in washing machine, that we had to re-wash. Dust on all ceiling fans was half inch thick. No carafe for coffeemaker. There was an envelope with a check for owner from prior rental. Could never reach caretaker and her voicemail box was full. Spoke with owner regarding my concerns. She said she'd reach the caretaker. I never heard back from anyone. This could be a great rental, but it needs a better caretaker.

Dear Guest, Thankyou for your feedback. The trees have been trimmed and a new driveway installed. The front and back doors function very well and there are written instructions on how to open and close them. There was a loose hinge on the left front screen door which has been repaired. The lights only needed a change of light bulbs which were available at the house and easily accessible and the coffee carafe had been broken by the previous guest who kindly replaced it. Unfortunately, the delivery could not be made because you were in the house at the time. There is however a Keurig coffee and tea machine at the house which is functional. The owner did speak with you as well as the housekeeper who reached you and offered to stop by and help. With regards to cleaning, the cleaners have been notified of your concerns and will pay particular attention to the cleaning going forward. Thankyou for keeping the envelope safe, I hope it was not a distraction for anyone. Thankyou again for visiting and we hope you will come again.

Roomy house, great location

We were a family group that included 4 generations, and this house worked perfectly for us. It's got 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths, a fully stocked kitchen, two big decks, and lots of amenities for visitors. There were 4 bikes with helmets in the garage, fishing rods, a barbecue with briquettes, lots of books and games, maps of the area and everything else you could want. The house is across the street from a walking beach, 10 minutes from a supermarket, 10 minutes from town.Highly recommended.
