This is an older home in Vail. The location is nice: close to vail village and the slopes. The ski in and ski out description is accurate. It’s a rather steep slope from ski slopes to back door of property so not all will be able to ski in and climbing out takes some effort.

We’re glad to hear our location is appreciated! Our home offers true ski-in/ski-out access, which is a rare feature in Vail. Guests should note that the slope from the lifts to the back door is on the steeper side, so skiing in is easy, but climbing back up requires a bit of effort. This property is perfect for those looking for convenient access to Vail Village and the slopes while enjoying a classic mountain home. Our guest services line can be reached 24/7 should you need anything!

Great Location, building a bit tired,

Amazing location in a historic building. Unfortunately the number of beds changed without notice between when we booked and when we arrived, so someone had to sleep on the couch - just check this before arriving. Great layout for multiple groups.

In its current condition, 16 Forest Road should not be a summer rental. If the owner plans to rent this home in the Summer, they should replace/repair all the broken windows and screens and add bear-bars to the windows. It would also be useful to purchase room fans for every room, repair the broken bench and sofa and upgrade the vacuum cleaner. During our 3-week stay we were visited by bears at least 6 different times. The first time occurred early in our stay during the morning while we were having breakfast. There were at least 3 additional visits between 12 Midnight and 4AM, when the bears made a huge amount of racket trying to open the locked garbage bins. Two additional visits occurred between 10 PM and midnight. We caught a bear on video during one visit nonchalantly walking on the deck after flipping over a locked garbage bin. The presence of bears on the main deck during the day and night, led us to conclude we needed to keep the windows on the main floor closed and locked during most of our three weeks stay. Our family members staying in the two bedrooms upstairs had a horrible experience. The upstairs was unbearably hot since most of its windows either did not have screens or were inoperable. To make things worse, when we opened the unscreened windows, moths and other bugs flew into the house. We made the property manager aware of these and other issues during our stay. We believe the owner is aware of these issues and has chosen to not address them.

For future guests considering 16 Forest Road, we would like to provide some additional context regarding the items mentioned in this review. This home is located in a mountain environment where encounters with wildlife, including bears, are a natural possibility. While bears were observed on exterior areas of the property during this stay, no bear entered the home. Guests staying in this area should be bear aware and follow standard wildlife-safety practices, particularly regarding food and garbage. Regarding the home's windows, screens, ventilation, and temperature, these are important considerations for summer guests. The property's windows are not designed to accommodate traditional screens, and some windows have limitations in their operation. Additional fans were provided when concerns about the temperature were brought to the attention of the property care team. We have also documented the additional feedback regarding the windows, screens, furniture, vacuum, and deck for review with the appropriate parties. We encourage all guests to contact Mountain Vacation Lodging promptly during their stay whenever they encounter a maintenance or housekeeping concern. This allows our team and the property's care providers the opportunity to investigate the concern and determine what assistance or remedy may be available while guests are still in the home. We appreciate guests sharing detailed feedback, as it allows us to communicate concerns to the appropriate parties and continually evaluate the guest experience. As always - our Guest Services team is available 24/7 should you need anything!

Location Location Location

A two minute walk downhill to Gondola One and Heart of Vail Village. If your a strong Blue skier/rider, you can ski in. The home is one of the originals in Vail and the home can be seen on all the trail maps on the mountain. But is is old, it feels old and other than a very nice kitchen, is not at all updated. Parking is on the street so you must have good snow tires/4x4/ a shovel or you may get stuck. Over all, i would consider renting this place again.

Excellent Location and Great Layout!!!

This was our first time staying at this home, but our 5th year coming to Vail for our annual friends ski trip. The home is very well laid out with two beds and two baths up, one bed and bath on the main level and a second living room and two beds with two baths down. The Mountain Views from the home are gorgeous and the remodeled kitchen a big plus for the home. While the bathrooms are dated as indicated, they were perfectly fine and we all loved the home for our trip and are booking again for next year! The home is ‘ski-in’ but it’s tricky, so be a strong intermediate or expert as it suggests. We were adventurous and hiked back up the hill to ski out, but that is a challenge. It’s right off of the main run to Gondola One and so close to town, but feels very private. A great value for Vail and definitely recommend to others.

The Arc at Vail

Property is as described. We had a lovely time staying at the Arc at Vail. It is a piece of Vail history, with an outstanding location and an affordable price. We were very comfortable here, as the 5 bedrooms fit our family nicely. Plenty of bathrooms also. We were very thankful for the abundant firewood provided, as well as the sleds for the hill out back, excellent wifi coverage, cable tv, well stocked kitchen, and absolutely beautiful scenery. The house is dated, and the recliners do not recline, but that was insignificant. Please be aware the steps up to the house are really no big deal. Easily managed. Plenty of parking too. Most of our time was spent on the slopes and dining in the village. Thanks so much to the owners for their accessibility and prompt responses to my messages. We look forward to staying here again. We LOVE Vail.

Issues with old house overshadowed great location

Would have been great but for serious issues with an old house that resulted in a large refund. Heat did not work and even when "fixed" not all rooms had heat and temperature was hard to control. Pipe burst caused flood and left basement (2 bedrooms) unusable for most of the trip. Management company was responsive, worked with us to try to resolve issues, and agreed to generous refund. Positives: great location: 5-ish minute walk to Vail Village/Gondola (though we couldn't find reasonable ski-in ski-out path); good for a large gathering: main living room has a great fireplace and is a good space for hanging out with a large group; many bathrooms; spacious hot tub; 5 bedrooms as described in posting.

Andrew arrived late and reported a lack of heat. The boiler had shut down due to a fault. When reset (by Andrew), the fault was overridden and heat was restored, but this caused a pipe to leak (not burst), and the water did not present itself until after everyone went to sleep. After awaking to wet floors on the lower level, a plumber was immediate dispatched and isolated the leaky pipe immediately. The isolation of the leaky pipe caused a lack of heat only in the living room, which has a large wood burning fireplace. The lower level floors were dried out. As Andrew as noted, we were responsive and resolved issues as quickly as possible. The boiler system is not old, but was inspected before the winter season began and was found to be in good condition. The issue was not something that could have been predicted, but it was dealt with quickly and efficiently. The ski in ski out is illustrated in the photo gallery. Intermediate to experts can ski in literally right onto the back deck and ski out via a short set of steps up then traverse sideways through the trees. Fortunately for beginner to intermediate skiers, or early / late ski season visitors, and as Andrew has noted, the location and short walk between the home and the Gondola quite the positive feature.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Ark. Walks into the village were easy and the house is very roomy and can accommodate a variety of bedroom setups. The in home jacuzzi was a major plus. As far as privacy, location and size, it's hard to beat. Traveled up with a few guys to do three days of skiing and we all loved it.

Spectacular property close to everything in Vail Village!

We were two families with kids age 4-15 from Florida. We have been to Vail several times and this is one of our favorite properties we’ve stayed in. Convenient walking location to Gondola one and all the restaurants and shopping of the village. The house was clean and very well equipped. Our group of 9 had plenty of space and it was such a beautiful, cozy place for us to come back to after a day on the slopes. The kids loved the hot tub and the game room. We had a fire every night. The beds are comfortable and the views outside the window were a winter wonderland. I loved the history of the house, one of the original houses built in Vail still owned by the same family. Very well maintained. Thanks for having us!

This house was perfect for our family vacation. Lots of space for us and the kids and you can't beat the location just outside of Vail Village. The house is definitely old but has a lot of history on the walls and the brand new kitchen was great. The hot tub could use an update/replacement and there were some loose screws/nails on the deck but otherwise no significant complaints. Booking again next year!
