Mare Vista #8-A: Oceanfront home w/hot tub & infinity pool

New in our program, this home has many great reviews from past guests.

Perched atop a high dune overlooking Avon's south beach is beautiful oceanfront Mare Vista. With five floors, it is the tallest house in Avon!

The ground level has a single carport, storage room, outdoor shower, and fish cleaning area. Move to the oceanfront backyard with a furnished pool deck, covered outdoor bar, hot tub, and a beautifully custom-made, half-moon infinity concrete pool). From the pool deck, there is a path for easy access to the beach, just over the dune. Full-view glass doors lead to the spacious game room with a pool table, game table, TV, and wet bar with a fridge and dishwasher and access to the deck with a hot tub.

Across the hall is the theater room with a 65-inch TV, surround sound, and seating. Move up the stairs with handcrafted stained-glass window accents to the second level. The third main living area is fully furnished and has a 45-inch TV. The kitchen offers granite countertops and a nearby dining area.

Head up to the fourth level with a separate seating area with grand sound views. Level five houses an office area with two desks and a workstation, along with a bedroom with the highest skylight in Avon.

Three of the four main suites are oceanfront, two have deck access, and three have a sofa/seating area and a private bath. One of the guest bedrooms is also oceanfront.

A private washer/dryer is provided for your convenience.

With outstanding accommodations and one-of-a-kind views, Mare Vista should be your next vacation destination.

The house fit our family of 13 perfectly. Plenty of room for the adults and kids to have separate areas. The pool and hot tub was a great bonus for the kids.

Excellent beach house family vacation

House was wonderful & equipped with the essentials + so much more! Plenty of space, close to the stores, easy access to the beach & the pool was the icing on the cake. We loved everything about our trip. We had 2 minor issues that were fixed within a couple of hours after reporting it. Zero complaints about our stay. Thank you.

Lovely home!

Our family vacation in this home was very enjoyable. It is beautifully decorated and with 5 levels it is quite spacious. Since it is a multi-level house, it is not suited for anyone with mobility issues. Climbing up and down the stairs is a good cardio workout! This also applies to going to and from the beach. Traversing over the sand dunes while carrying a load of beach gear can be a challenge. We enjoyed flying kites, fishing and walking along the shoreline. The beach wasn't crowded at all. This house is very close to Food Lion, restaurants, gas stations, mini-golf and gift shops. This rental is well equipped with everything you would need. We do suggest bringing extra kitchen towels. There was only one towel which definitely isn't enough for a week's stay. Overall, our family had a wonderful time and made some very special memories!

Wonderful Autumn Vacation Stay

This house was just the right size for 9 adults and two children. We stayed in the first week of October, most business and restaurants were still open at enough capacity to support us. The house was very clean. The bare essential items were provided - towels, bedding, dish soap, a few trash bags, cookware, etc. Ocean-side beach access was phenomenal, the pool and hot tub were well maintained and clean. Some beach chairs and boogie boards were a great to have as provided amenities. Pictures and 3D tour of the home on the Vacasa App were very accurate and the app was seamless. Would highly recommend this house, and the Vacasa management company for Avon area vacations.

Always a day at the beach

We had our annual family vacay in this beautiful house. You can hear the surf from any deck of the house and the views are AMAZING from the upper decks. Our family really enjoyed the location and layout of the house. The only thing to be aware of is the amount of stairs. They were not bad but you def have to use them to go anywhere. The rooms are large and the beds were sturdy. All of the furniture is in good shape. The pool got some shade in the afternoon, which was wonderful.

For the cost of our stay and the problems that occurred, it was not worth it! We were charged an extra 1000 ( assuming to ensure that our needs were met) to reserve this rental and had to have VACASA out there 4 times. Now, we have rented numerous times and have never had issues especially when you pay this much money! 1.The remotes did not work in bedroom 3 - had to come out 2 times for this2.You had to have a algorithm to work the remotes3. The drain in another bedroom was clogged.4.The pool stopped circulating on the 1st of the 3 hottest days we were there.5. Having someone respond in a manner of a 10,500 plus rental was RIDICULOUS!I have never left a bad review BUT I have never had an experience like this especially paying this much money.

Stayed here before about 5 years ago. House was in better shape back then.

Love the home. It is clean. Had a broken slide door on 3rd floor. Had a tear in pool table. Two totes of dirty linen were on porch the whole time we were there and still there when we left. I would like to stay here again but would like to see in better condition.

We have stayed at this property before, but it has changed owners and management company. The precleaning was poor, and there is trash in the the yard. Minor maintenance such as door handles and light fixtures need to be replaced.

We had a group of 12 and enough beds for all. Large king bed masters. Having a second refrigerator was key with a group this size. The theater room was great, but no AC. Loved the pool. Easy access to the beach, but be prepared for a workout!😊 On the downside…. One of the beds was not made upon our arrival and we had to search for the sheets. The house could have been cleaner - I found M&Ms from the previous renters under star stairs 😳. Overall… loved the house, spectacular views from every deck, great house for a large group. We would rent again!

Oceanfront Beach House

We stayed in this house 10 years ago at which time it was pristine. So when it became available this year we decided on a week in June. Upon check in we were pretty sure it was not cleaned. Bathrooms, kitchen, carpets were very dirty. We spent our first two days cleaning. This house has such big comfy bedrooms and the most fantastic views but the condition of the house and the maintenance issues that were not addressed during our stay was very disappointing. We have been renting houses on Cape Hatteras since 1988 and this house was, hands down, in the worst condition of any we have reserved.

Family fun, sand and sun

Our family trip has been to experience new places and OBX did not disappoint. The house was great, all food shopping is very convenient, very nice grocery store within 1-2 miles. Lots of dining and entertainment options also close. We had 3 small children, 9, 6, 4. The beach was a hit for 1 family. The pool and hot tub were a huge success for everyone. Plenty of outsde seating. Bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms + 2 powder rooms was so nice, no one had to be waiting. The kitchen was very well stocked with dishes and pot and pans. The game room was also used by several family members. Balconies and views were wonderful. The house has lots of steps because of 5 floors, but the descrption tells you the levels. Our oldest family member was 71 and no complaints. Several family members were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphin in the ocean from the 3rd floor kitchen area, very exciting for the kiddos. My only suggestion would be an outside grill, our family likes grilling. Only glitch we did not have enough bath towels for each family guest. I contacted the manager and were told where we could go to pick up more towels. Also close by. The house does need some TLC third floor shows rain leaks on ceiling. We experienced a pretty intense rain while there and rain leaked in around windows on north wall enough for us to be soaking up with towels. Some wiring is questionable.

Lots of positives and a few negatives

My family of 11, ages 12-68, had a great time here & would recommend it to people that are in very good shape. The house is as pictured so realize there are LOTS of stairs to climb all the time. Our biggest negative was the degree of difficulty to get to the beach. It is very difficult to climb all 35 stairs with all your beach gear, then get up and over the sand dune where there are no stairs to help. The way back is worse as it is confusing as to which opening in the dune belongs to the house, we ended up at the wrong house several times and had to go back and find the right path, so bring something to mark your way! This difficult trek made it impossible for several of us to go back and forth to the beach every day so we relied on the pool, which was wonderful but we came for the beach walks in the morning and night and all day long. The good points were the large amount of space the house has and the bedroom sizes are nice. Baths in the bedrooms were nice but need grab bars outside the tub for safety, I fell in and out a few times as I am older and short. Ideally they should make them into nice showers instead as the jetted tubs are very high to climb into. Many of the doors on the house do not lock, the most important one is the front door!! Also the theater door locks you in and you need someone to let you out, needs a new handle with no lock on it. Big issue was the carpets, the nail strips holding them down are not done correctly and we stepped on the tacs many times,

Needs some attention

Staying at Mare Vista was an overall good experience but the house needs some pretty serious attention. The handrails on all balconies and stairs were not securely nailed down. We vacationed with older folks, one who had both knees and a hip replaced, and also with children which made sitting on the balcony and walking up the stairs pretty scary. No outlets worked outside so sitting by the pool we had to use extension cords which surely isn’t safe. All of the toilets in the house will clog with one piece of toilet paper. Terrible flushing which was a headache all week long. The sliding doors on the balconies do not close which made it hot in our rooms every day. The pool was beautiful but the lights didn’t work at night, nor did the majority of the deck lights by the pool which, again with older folks and children, not having a lit pathway wasn’t very pleasing. Lastly, the access pathway to the beach (the stairs) need to be fixed before someone gets very hurt. You could only walk on one side because the other is going to fall off any day. It seems like it’s shared with 3 homes so the owners need to get together pretty quick. Overall an enjoyable vacation but the house is run down to say the least. And it was filthy when we got there. I did a pretty good clean as soon as we arrived which wasn’t a great start to my vacation. Please get to this house and give it some attention because it has great potential. Thanks!

Best OF House!

Our family loved the Oceanfront. Our first time getting an OF home. Will spoil us totally. We had lots of issues with some things about the house. My sisterinlaw's foot was hit due to the Dishwasher door hinges are broken and it fell down ontop of her foot but she was ok. The door weighs a ton, that dishwasher needs to go and it didn't clean all the dishes all the time. The Fridge was too small for first floor (not sure how to make room for a bigger one and Icemaker was broken but Hatteras called me to inform me of this. So we bought Ice. We had no can opener and saw they had one in online pictures. I go by alot of pictures in choosing a home to rent and what to bring. We went out and bought 3 manual which we left for next renters. We had some water issues, sometimes there was no pressure at all. Toilets need replaced. The half bath next to theater room would not stop running. Overall some housekeeping should be better. Noticed some things that aren't getting cleaned. I was told they were short handed for cleaning help. One important item, the dryer vent that is out at back deck next to outside shower (along that hallway to entry door) the Vent needs cleaned out. The dryer may work better if this gets done. We are a easy going family...this may sound like a bad review but it is not. We would love to come back to this house. It totally worked for our family. I can't wait to see what the new owners do to renovate this home...especially new beds. Due to Covid and how hard it is to get my family together, not sure how soon we will need a house this big. We loved Mar Vista. It was so private and wonderfully Ocean front. I would recommend this house. Oh, one more thing...usually find a book that sits on coffee table to explain some things about the house but we didn't see one. For examle, we were not sure if the pool needed anything done to it or the hot tub needed to be at what temperature. That books that I have always seen from owners give us alot of info. Again, hope to come back to Mar Vista soon. Glad the new owners kept it for Renting. thanks again for everything!!

Avoid this one—needs of a lot of repairs and updates

This house fell far below expectations set by Vacasa’s listing. I’ve been coming to Hatteras for thirty years and this was an unusually bad experience. I think it’s due to Vacasa’s total lack of understanding of the area, poor property oversight, and indifferent-to-infuriating customer service. The home is quite run down; several screen doors and locks are broken. At one point, the water shut off completely. The kitchen sink drains slowly and we had to request a repair on a shower that didn’t drain at all. The house was stuffy and mildew-scented and many windows had mechanisms removed to prevent opening them, so we all spent the week sneezing. We saw an unusual amount of roaches—something I’ve never experienced on Hatteras on past visits. The rooms were ok, but it’s important to know that the third floor main bedroom is not private. It has a large skylight that anyone on the deck can look into, and there’s a strange stained glass panel set in the wall between the kitchen/dining area and the bedroom. It seems opaque but anyone walking up or down the stairs can see through it easily. The pool is not heated, which is typical for the summer in Hatteras and usually no problem. However, it gets almost no sun throughout the day so it is frigid and mostly unusable. The hot tub is over-treated with chemicals that left blue specks on our skin. The decks are in dangerously poor repair, with wobbly railings and broken chairs and benches. The kitchen is lacking some basics, like measuring cups and spoons. We bought and left oven mitts, wine openers, and other sundries, so hopefully the next guests will have a better experience. Vacasa was hard to deal with. I did NOT get a notification when the house was ready for us. I had to call Vacasa to fix multiple problems and it never encountered anyone who could give me clear answers or timelines— they just told me they would “put in a ticket with the local crew.” I was impressed with how quickly and easily the local maintenance people helped us; that was the one bright spot. It’s a shame that Vacasa has purchased Hatteras Realty and some other small realty businesses and seems to have a stranglehold on the area. Because they are not based locally, more houses are sure to fall into disrepair and other guests will have problems that the remote call center won’t be able to handle. I’ll miss working with the quickly disappearing local real estate companies, even though they can also be frustrating—at least I know they’re familiar with the houses and the problems that inevitably pop up with rentals. I will go out of my way to avoid Vacasa listings—but that’s getting harder to do.
