Holmfield is a cosy but spacious detached 3-bedroom cottage next to the Colne Valley village of Slaithwaite.
Downstairs you’ll find a welcoming lounge with comfy sofa and large armchair, Smart TV (log into your own apps) and a real wood burning stove for cold evenings. Dual-aspect windows keep it bright in the day and new carpets and soft furnishings make it an easy place to relax.
Off the lounge is a flexible playroom/office with toys, family games and books for all ages. A bureau desk with chair and lamp plus the router in this room gives you a solid spot for work or video calls. Double doors open to the secure garden, so kids can run in and out while you keep an eye on them.
At the heart of the house is a stylish kitchen-diner featuring another wood burning stove. There’s an induction hob, oven, separate grill, fridge-freezer, washing machine, Nespresso style coffee machine (pods), toaster and kettle, plus proper cooking kit: pots, pans, sharp knives, baking trays, mixing bowls, kids’ plates and cups and plenty of crockery, cutlery and glasses.
We leave useful basics like tea, coffee, sugar, oil, salt, pepper, herbs and foil so you can cook from day one. The dining table seats 4 adults plus a child chair and high chair for relaxed meals at home.

Neighbourhood – Slaithwaite (“Slawit”)
Holmfield is in a popular spot in Slaithwaite, a Colne Valley village known for its canalside setting, independent shops and food scene.
It’s around 10 minutes’ walk to the village centre/main street and 15 minutes to Slaithwaite station, so you can settle in and explore on foot.
There’s something for everyone:
Cafés & bakeries – Curated by Anna, Juno and The Handmade Bakery for daytime coffee, cake and brunch.
Eating out – Fantastic seasonal pizzas at Anello using produce from their own kitchen garden, plus great curry options and themed nights at local spots such as Northern Soul.
Pubs & bars – Sunday roasts at The Bulls Head, relaxed daytime drinks at The Little Bridge, and No.27 for a cosy wine bar.
By the water – Wander along the canal for coffee at Darkwoods Coffee Roasters, or continue to Zapato Brewery for drinks, street food and a laid-back riverside beer garden.
Shops & essentials – Local butchers and greengrocers, plus gift and antique and book shops, make it easy to stock up on fresh produce or pick up something special.
Children - Acorn & Pip for toys, Arty Explorers for classes, Little Valley Play for Montessori style play and Wonderland's Little Village Co for soft play.
Fitness - Colne Valley Leisure Centre for a pool and gym, Colne Valley Crossfit, AVL gym, Intu Pilates and Yoga. Yes, in this village we have everything!
It’s also a great area for walking and cycling – head along the flat canal towpath for easy miles, or up onto the moors for bigger views and proper Pennine hikes.
It's honestly such a wholesome area, you'll never want to leave.
Getting around
You don’t need to rely on a car here:
Village centre: around 10 minutes on foot (there is a steep incline at the bottom of the road called Linfit Fold, it’s why we have such fantastic views)
Slaithwaite station: around 15 minutes on foot
By train: Slaithwaite sits on the Transpennine line, with typical journey times of around 25–40 minutes to Leeds or Manchester, depending on the service.
It’s an ideal base if you want city days out in Leeds or Manchester but prefer to stay somewhere green and peaceful. We love it here for the lovely people, views, exercise options and quality local produce.
We’re a gateway to moorland walks: Marsden Moor and the Holme Valley are close by, and the Peak District boundary near Meltham/Holmfirth is within easy reach (driving time varies by route and exact trailhead).
