Recent stay at Ocean Air Suites
We recently stayed at Ocean Aire Suites at Hampton Beach, where we’ve vacationed for the past three years. The property is now under new ownership, although one of the on-site staff members has been there throughout the years we’ve visited. Because the apartment that we had were as they have always been I have given higher rating of 4.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but there were a few noticeable differences this year.
One minor issue involved parking. We have always rented the same “Long view apartment” and, because we bring two vehicles, we have previously been authorized to park in the column parking area. This was clearly outlined in our rental agreement and had also been confirmed with the property manager when we booked our return stay earlier this spring. While the situation was ultimately resolved, it highlighted what appeared to be some communication gaps between the property owner/manager and the on-site staff.
The biggest disappointment was the overwhelming smell of cat urine upon entering the building. The odor in the first-floor hallway was very strong and was difficult to ignore. Fortunately, it did not seem to extend into our apartment, but for the price of these accommodations, this is something that should be addressed promptly.
Our apartment itself was much as we remembered from previous years. The only housekeeping concern was that the floors felt gritty upon arrival as though they hadn’t been thoroughly vacuumed between guests. I did sweep them as soon as we arrived.
For most of the week, the property was quiet and relaxing, which is one of the reasons we’ve continued to return. Unfortunately, during the last couple of nights, a group moved into the unit above us and there was a significant amount of stomping and noise that disrupted the otherwise peaceful atmosphere. Along with a significant amount of sand that fell down from the above deck when the people were outside above us brushing off their coolers, shaking out towels and beach items.
While we understand that noisy neighbors can happen anywhere, the overall atmosphere felt very different from previous years. It’s unfortunate because one of the things we had always appreciated about Ocean Aire Suites was the quiet, respectful environment.
We hope the new ownership is able to address the communication issues, improve the common areas, and maintain the quality that has kept us coming back year after year.
