Historic Media Loft in Downtown Columbus - Newly Renovated - Walk Everywhere
A 1,080 sq ft upstairs loft in an early 1900s downtown Columbus commercial building, on the block of Fifth Street South once known as Market Street. The space is open-plan with exposed brick, original hardwood floors, tall ceilings, and large windows overlooking the street.
The building has a long history with Columbus media, and the loft is curated around that story. A WCBI Radio sign that hung on Main Street for decades anchors the living area. A framed engineer's blueprint from the installation of The Commercial Dispatch's Goss Urbanite press hangs nearby. Each morning they print a paper, you'll receive a copy of The Dispatch delivered to your door — a small ritual you won't find at any other rental in town.
The loft is built for two, but a child can sleep on the sofa (not a sofa bed) in a pinch. A queen bed with Egyptian cotton sheets and Casper pillows sits in the sleeping area; a walk-in closet doubles as the laundry room with in-unit washer and dryer, and connects through to the bathroom. The bath has a tub/shower combo, a lit vanity mirror, and a vanity custom-built by a local woodworker. The kitchen is full-size and properly stocked — Nespresso machine and pods, cookware, pots and pans, basic seasonings, and olive oil are all on hand, so you can cook a meal here, not just reheat one. A dry bar sits adjacent for guests who travel with their own bottles.
A dedicated work area with a full desk and a leather rolling chair makes this a serious option for visiting consultants, traveling nurses, and business travelers settling in for a multi-night stay. Fiber Wi-Fi handles video calls and streaming. Two smart TVs and a Sonos speaker (Bluetooth-enabled) handle the off-hours.
Outside the front door, you're within easy walking distance of downtown Columbus' restaurants, coffee shops, local bookstore, the Riverwalk, the Tennessee Williams birthplace, tree-lined historic neighborhoods, Mississippi University for Women, and the Trotter Convention Center. Columbus Air Force Base is about 15 minutes by car; Mississippi State University in Starkville is about 25.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
For more than a century, the building at the corner of Main and Fifth has been at the center of how Columbus did business and how Columbus told its story. In the early 1900s, 109 Fifth Street South was part of Ruth's Department Store, a sprawling retail anchor that occupied multiple buildings on this corner. The property was acquired by The Commercial Dispatch, the city's daily newspaper. For decades, dozens of employees worked in the back of the building inserting advertising sections into each day's edition — a ritual that helped put the paper into the hands of every subscriber in the Golden Triangle. In the 1990s, the front of the building housed one of North Mississippi's first internet service providers — an unlikely second life for a 19th-century commercial space. A connecting property was home to WCBI Radio, whose original Main Street sign now hangs in the loft. The Market Street Media Loft is curated around that history. The WCBI sign anchors the living area. A framed blueprint from the installation of The Dispatch's Goss Urbanite press hangs nearby. And on publication mornings, the day's print edition is delivered to your door — a small ritual that connects your stay to the building's long media life.
