Felanitx—an old and rather quiet town with approximately 9,900 residents at the foot of the “Serres de Levante” mountain range—is only about 11 km from the coastal town of Portocolom. The municipality of Felanitx is home to approximately 17,500 residents spread across about 170 km². It is known for its wine production (white wine) and ceramics, which are sold here—some of them kitschy, others arranged into tasteful murals. The landscape around Felanitx is characterized today by plantations of almond and apricot trees, grain fields, and vineyards.
Another attraction near Felanitx is the “Santuari de Sant Salvador,” a colossal monument featuring a seven-meter-tall statue of Christ.
In the center of Felanitx stands the “Esglesia de Sant Miquel,” a parish church dating back to 1248 and built of golden-colored sandstone. It is one of Mallorca’s most impressive religious buildings and captivates visitors with a massive golden high altar, a Renaissance portal, a Baroque pediment, and a magnificent rose window.
Of course, Felanitx also has plenty of restaurants and cafes to offer. The selection ranges from simple Mallorcan cuisine to upscale restaurants, though the latter are mostly geared toward tourists. Numerous shops have set up shop in the old town. The nearest beach is in Portocolom. Other beautiful sandy beaches are just a few kilometers away. Felanitx is a great starting point for relaxing hikes through Mallorca’s natural landscape.
Between Felanitx and Portocolom lies the “Golf Vall D’or” course, an 18-hole golf course that has been carefully integrated into the landscape and offers something for everyone, from beginners to pros.
