At the quiet end of the Kattsund, where cars aren’t allowed, your vacation begins with a deep breath of tranquility. You’re just a few steps away from the lively harbor, the fine sandy beach, and the charming boutiques and cafés of downtown—and yet, in your “Sprottenkiste,” you’ll feel as if you’re in another world.
Behind the historic brick facade, a space spanning nearly 150 square meters reveals itself—a place designed with meticulous attention to detail. Every piece of furniture, every door was handcrafted—one-of-a-kind pieces created by our carpenter to carry on the house’s history. Warm colors, carefully selected materials, and thoughtful design create an atmosphere that combines coziness and elegance.

Welcome to the Sprottenkiste—a place where history, style, and comfort come together in a unique way. The over-100-year-old coach house, part of a historic, protected complex in Eckernförde’s old town, has been passionately restored and transformed into an exceptionally luxurious retreat.
Nestled on the quiet Kattsund, one of the city’s most beautiful streets, you’ll find a peace and quiet that’s rare these days. No cars, no noise—just the soft clatter of shoes on cobblestones and the scent of the sea in the air. The moment you open the heavy door, you sense that a house with soul lies beyond.
The first room—the former carriage entrance—is now a stylish foyer. Behind a solid oak sliding door, building services and storage space are discreetly concealed, while natural materials, clean lines, and balanced lighting create a soothing atmosphere. Space for bicycles, an elegant coat rack, and handcrafted details already reveal here the care with which every element has been thought through.
Through the second door, you enter the kitchen-diner—the heart of the home. Soft lighting, fine materials, and a wood-burning stove—you’ll feel right at home here. The custom-built kitchen, crafted by a master carpenter with a stone countertop, combines luxurious features with timeless aesthetics: two ovens, a large six-burner cooktop, a warming drawer, and a fridge-freezer combo. Fine tableware, elegant glassware, and a select assortment of cooking utensils turn cooking and dining into a memorable experience.
From here, the path leads to the secluded courtyard—a quiet place to take a deep breath. Teak furniture, soft lighting, and a hint of sea air create a Mediterranean ambiance in the heart of the city. On summer evenings, the indoor and outdoor spaces blend into a harmonious whole—a place where time seems to stand still.
The adjoining living room, bathed in light and serene, connects the front and rear sections of the house. Warm tones, a leather sofa, and gently shifting light—a space that invites you to linger. Here, artisanal luxury meets understated elegance.
The former horse stable, now the rear building, houses one of the two double bedrooms: a retreat crafted from wood, fabric, and silence. Custom-made furniture, high-quality fabrics, and muted colors create an atmosphere of coziness and understated beauty. The adjoining bathroom, cleverly integrated under the stairs, impresses with its sophisticated use of space, clean lines, and high-quality fixtures.
A staircase leads up to the private wellness floor—featuring a spacious steam sauna, with the washer and dryer discreetly hidden behind built-in cabinets. Step through the glass door onto the rooftop terrace: granite beneath your feet, the sky above you—a place to breathe deeply and reflect.
On the first floor of the front building are two additional bedrooms—one with a double bed, the other with a single bed and a desk—ideal for blending work and relaxation. The adjoining bathroom impresses with its modern simplicity, light, and comfort.
At the very top, in the attic, the spacious living room opens up—your retreat above the rooftops of Eckernförde. A cozy sofa arrangement, warm colors, and a view of the silo and a corner of the harbor—here, you can let your mind wander. Perhaps with a glass of wine, a good book, or simply in silence.

Two reserved parking spaces are available to you, one at the Rundsilo (250 m away) and the other on Noorstraße (about an 8-minute walk). Due to the building’s historic nature, we welcome guests ages 12 and older.
