Discover the charming Mattishüüsli, a semi-detached wooden chalet. The small collection of 15 listed cottages from the 17th century offer an authentic country retreat in the heart of the Glarus Alps. The Mattishüüsli is the perfect place for anyone who wants to relax close to nature and in a quiet neighbourhood.
the Mattishüüsli was extensively renovated in 2025, with great emphasis placed on preserving the charm of grandmother's time. In the living room, for example, the tiled stove and the stove bench make for a cosy atmosphere. Entertainment is provided by lots of games, colouring materials and a Smart TV. The kitchen is also equipped with new appliances: ceramic hob, oven, dishwasher, steam extractor, espresso pot and capsule coffee machine, new utensils and good knives. The old, fully functional wood-burning cooker has been retained. With two cosy bedrooms that can be darkened, restful nights are guaranteed. Good to know: the structure of the Mattishüüsli is 300 years old, so the ceilings on the upper floor are low - head down recommended! A new bathroom with a large shower (120 x 90 cm) and a new guest WC with washing machine/tumbler add to the comfort.
Outside you will find a lovingly tended, fully fenced small garden for your exclusive use. Deckchairs, a dining area and a gas barbecue as well as various garden games invite you to linger. During the grazing season, the cows pass right by the house - a great experience for the youngest guests.
The favourable location of the chalet makes it possible to set off on hikes, snowshoe hikes and cross-country skiing directly from the front door. Mountain tours can be undertaken thanks to a cable car just 300 metres away, and a children's ski lift is also just a 5-minute walk away. In car-free Braunwald you will find a small, quiet, totally decelerated ski area, winter hiking trails with panoramic views of the Alps, an excellent ski school, lovely snow pubs, various playgrounds, alpine inns, a great via ferrata, bike trails, a small cross-country ski trail, a toboggan run and horse-drawn sleighs. In summer, there is no shortage of water sports and cooling off. There are over 70 small and large lakes to discover in Glarnerland, including Obersee, Muttssee, Klöntalersee and Walensee.
Travel for free by train! All our guests benefit from the new Glarnerland Pass, which means that public transport is free on the day of arrival. The Mattishüüsli is ideally located if you like travelling by public transport. It's just a 4-minute walk to the railway station or the Postbus stop.
