Happy Turtle A: Cute Beach Cottage, 60 Steps to Sand, Sun Room

Sixty steps from a wide, never-crowded beach, on the quiet, narrow end of Anna Maria Island in Bradenton Beach. We are one of the few family-run homes left on the island, we answer our own messages, and so many of our guests come back year after year. Cute and easy, and just steps from the Gulf.

Your own entrance off the street opens to two queen bedrooms with closets, 1.5 baths, a bright sun room and veranda, and a private backyard. Comfortably sleeps 5: two queens, plus a couch or air bed for a fifth. Full kitchen, large laundry with washer and dryer, a dedicated workspace, a 65-inch smart TV with Netflix, fast wifi up to 300 Mbps, central AC on a Nest, a propane grill, one dedicated parking space, and self check-in. Two dogs welcome, any size.

The beach is a one-minute walk, with Aluna Wellness Center and Spa right on the way, and Anna Maria Sound is steps away. Historic Bridge Street Pier and its restaurants are a short drive, and the free island trolley is close by. Beach chairs and toys left by past guests are free to use.

Coming with friends or extended family? Book Happy Turtle A together with the home next door, Happy Turtle B, for a 4-bedroom whole-property stay with two living spaces and privacy for everyone. Prefer an upscale stay with a private pool? Look up Happy Island Cottage, our second beach home, 10 minutes away in Holmes Beach.

* AC holds the 72-80F range. The Nest is not locked: if it reads 76, that is Eco mode after the house sat empty, and it resumes your setting on its own.
* The grill has a propane tank in place. Please refill it after use; if it arrives low, Holmes Beach Ace Hardware (right by the Publix) does quick exchanges.
* TVs are streaming through Amazon Fire Sticks. You are free to use any of your subscription services, but please remember to log out after your vacation. If you are not familiar with Amazon Fire Sticks or smart TVs in general, please search online for instructions. We do not provide assistance with basic operations.

We stock a starter supply of paper goods, trash bags, and soaps for your first day or two. For longer stays, plan a quick Publix run for refills, it is 5 minutes away.

What a great place to stay! It’s so close to the beach, which was not overcrowded. Plenty of room for 5 of us to have our own space and hang out together! Alex was quick to respond with questions we had. Would stay again!!!

This home is in FL, which is currently experiencing a heat wave. The outside temperature was between 95-100 degrees daily. The host locked the air conditioning at 76 and we could not turn it down lower to allow the house to cool off. The air conditioning unit was also not capable of cooling the house to the 76 degrees that the host locked it at. the house was 78 degrees throughout the entire day! You came in from the beach to shower and continued to sweat until 9 or 10pm when the temperature finally came down. We reached out several times to the host and they refused to send a tech to fix the air. I would NOT recommend staying here. The host never even offered to give us money back for having a MISERABLE vacation!!!

Thank you for the feedback, and I'm sorry the heat got the better of your week. For future guests, a quick note on the AC. The thermostat is a Nest and you're free to set it wherever you like, down to 72. That floor is spelled out in the house rules. It does drift up to 76 on its own when it senses nobody home, then goes right back to your setting when you return. Nothing is locked. Your week also happened to be a record heat wave, with outside temps flirting with 100. During our messages we found the lanai sliders were open. A 3 ton AC unit is good, but it has never once won a fight against the Gulf of Mexico. Once the doors were closed, the house cooled down and the issue didn't come back. Short version for anyone reading: set it to 72 if you like it cold, and let the sliders do their job. The AC works great when it isn't trying to air condition the entire island.

Would do it again.

A great, clean and roomy place to stay. It’s a perfect location for getting around the island. The owners were available if needed throughout our stay. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay very much.

Great property - perfect location

We really enjoyed our stay here. I loved that it was pet friendly and that my dogs had a fenced in area to be outside. It was a perfect size and amazing location. We had a great time!

Very nice convenient rental

Very accurately represented in app and had everything that we needed. Property manager was very prompt with reply & friendly. Plenty of space inside and outside. Properties around area still have ongoing work from hurricanes but this property was totally complete.

Perfect Quiet Get Away

This beach cottage is just what the doctor ordered. Spacious and comfortable. All you need in a home away from your own. Clean. Great gathering spaces inside and out. Close enough to the trolley stop! Super close to the beach! They added an extra touch with providing SOJO amenities for the kitchen & bathroom. Fenced in yard for our pets! what a plus!!

Short walk to beach!

Overall great spot, plenty of room and space for our family. Came with beach gear and the trolley was a major plus. Only downside was we had trouble with the a/c, it seemed to be on a schedule and temp would rise in the middle of the night and was not ideal for sleeping conditions. Also beds need an update, terribly uncomfortable. Location cant be beat!

Thank you guys :) Both beds have a brand new mattresses, One is FIRM another is Medium. (This types are what the majority of our guests are requesting). If you prefer to sleep on soft one - it might me uncomfortable for sure. As for AC- house comes with smart NEST Thermostat. It does not have a night schedule, it must be some other reason - like open windows or door. AC is brand new too :)

Great little vacation house

The place is fantastic. Great location just blocks from a trolley stop and the beach. Quiet. Clean. Comfortable. Well stocked. Alex is an excellent host. Quick response to each and every inquiry, and offered some tasty suggestions for dinner. I couldn't offer a higher recommendation.

I want to give a bad review, but in good conscious I cannot.

I really want to give this the worst review possible because I do not want this hidden gem to explode in popularity. The unit had everything you could ever want or ask for and the owner truly was great with meeting almost every possible detail you can think of for a beach house stay. Truly an amazing place that I will only refer my dearest friends and family to stay there.

Comfortable ‘clean place

The Happy Turtle suited our needs of a clean, comfortable rental close to the beach. Communication was easy,and Alex was quick to respond. Beds were comfortable, and place was spacious and equipped with most everything we needed. The four season porch that was lovely, could not be used by us, because of the smell of mildew. I’m sure it was related to the hurricane, so we were sympathetic, but sure would have been a great room to utilize while we were there.Also, know your tv passwords for your apps. Any station you want to access needs a log in, with the exception of Pluto.The location really was steps from the beach!

AMI One-Story

This property is in a great location close to beach, but quiet nrighborhood), it’s very spacious, and was quite comfortable. The unit is one story and has 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. It has a laundry room, large kitchen area and sun porch, and a small yard. Lots of positive, few negatives. I would suggest adding power strips and blackout shades in bedrooms. Better instructions on using TV (with and without apps) would be helpful. Also, colored strips on the steps up to the sun porch and from the porch to inside, might lessen the chance of tripping (I tripped over both).I recommend and would stay here again.

Our stay was good. Location, location, location. This location is perfect for beach goers. The hosts were very easy/fast to respond to any questions. A few things to others looking at this property. It is not a well stocked property. Very basic. No replacement of paper products. (it does state that in the description) Bring everything you expect to use. There were two chairs, and some sand toys. I did ask the host about beach things so we didn't have to bring, and was told they don't advertise beach equipment so whatever is there is ok to use. Being several steps from the beach you would want your guests to enjoy the beach comfortably. The house was clean but a bit dated. Refrigerator makes a lot of noise. Some maintenance besides cleaning duties that the cleaners would do need some attention. (broken wall decor, outside area needs some upkeep attention) There is a great inside patio area, but not really usable. The air conditioner that is in this area is very old, and to small for the area. This is a pet friendly property which we enjoyed. It is fenced in so you do not have to worry about having your dog outside, but note, there is no grass, so you will still probably need to walk pets. Please don't get me wrong, we did enjoy our stay but wanted inform others of our experience.

Thank you, Tara, glad the cottage was spotless and the beach as close as promised. On supplies: we provide a starter set of paper goods and consumables for the first couple of days, like most vacation rentals, so guests can settle in before a grocery run.
