A perfect piece of paradise

The property is ideally situated on the shores of Honokeana Cove, a few steps down to the intimate little bay filled with sea life and, especially, sea turtles. Only a short walk away are several other beaches to enjoy. From our balcony we could look out onto Molokai and see humpback whales breaching in the distance. The unit itself was clean and just perfectly set up for our group of four. We were able to use the kitchen and outside grill to cook up some delicious meal. Each unit is configured to face the common areas and the ocean, so though the compound was full of guests, we never lost a sense of privacy and quiet. The guests were all very friendly - a wonderful group of vacationers to complement the gorgeous setting. When I return to Maui, I plan to return here.

However, I would like to offer a couple suggestions the owner could accomplish for not so much money. The TV's are way too small. Big ones are so cheap now, so it doesn't make sense not to upgrade. Also, investing in some better kitchen utensils and matching dishes and silverware would go a long way in making it feel a little nicer. But overall, we had a great time and have already booked next year's stay. Thank you Kerry for all your help!! Bill

I hate to give a review because this place will get too crowded!

Negatives: not a lot of privacy because your patio is right on the common area and there isn't any AC. But.....the positives greatly outweigh the negatives and we will be back ASAP!!

We learned that March is crowded with families with young children rather than older groups like ourselves. Instead of peaceful and relaxed times at the shore or pool, our days and nights were filled with cries and loud voices and the pool filled with untended children.

First time at Honokeana Cove

There is no sandy beach but there are dozens of giant sea turtles that come out to sun on the rocky shore and their colors perfectly match the rocks. Snorkeling was superb. Our disappointment was the construction noise during three of our five days there. We were told via email about this just days before we arrived and we were not in a position to change our plans.

Honokeana Cove a beauty on Maui

Unit #113 was easy to walk right out to enjoy the lanai, grassy area, pool, or snorkeling in the cove with many turtles. This cove is the best place to snorkel! # 113 was clean and well equipped. It is a little tired though and could use some upgrades. Overall, our stay here was a wonderful experience. We would come back in a heartbeat! Office and property management was great. The grounds are beautiful. Ocean front BBQ's are kept spotless for your use. Tiki torches are lite every night and fun to watch this tradition. Thank you Ray for all your hard work.

Unit 113 needs a MAJOR remodel

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have stayed at the Honokeana Cove multiple times. For example we were there last year, this year & have reservations for next year already. This stay we had 2 different units. Our unit of choice only had 8 nights avaliable so we booked an additional 5 nights in unit 113. Unit 113 has not been remodeled like most units at the Cove. It is more than overdue for a major remodel. Stainless steel sink has a rusted hole and a piece of electrical tape covering it which does not stay or work at all. A simple plug should be installed. The only positive is the bed was comfortable. All funiture is old & outdated. The unit only had one old beach chair where you should need no less than two. TV's are basically monitors. The living room TV did not work & needed to have the Spectrum box replaced after the 1st night. If any other unit is avaliable, I would stay there & will not rent this unit again unless it is remodeled.

Love the Cove

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The grounds of the property are gorgeous and very well kept. The convenience of being able to access the cove is awesome. I have stayed at Honokeana Cove several times and have always been impressed with the accommodations, that is until this recent visit. We stayed in #113 and found that although we paid the same price as similar updated units ours had yet to be updated. The ease of a walk out lanai was wonderful, the bed comfy and the view stunning. However the fridge was rusty inside the freezer and the top shelf in the fridge had a constant pool of water, making that shelf unusable. There was so much moisture in the fridge that we had to throw food away after only a couple of days...the sliding door and sliding screen would not close all the way, therefore not locking either. The solution provided was to place a wooden dowel in the grooves at the base of the slider to keep it "locked". This does not prevent bugs,baby geckos or roaches (we found a couple roaches in the bathroom) from getting in. The bathroom was ok, except for the shower, which is made for short people ( I am 5'8" and my partner is 6'3") we both struggled when trying to wash our hair. I think this unit should be less expensive than the comparable updated 1BR/1BA units or they should update it to be on par with the others. All in all we had a great time and will definitely be back, just not to this unit in it's present state.
