Gathering

We stayed here for a family members funeral. As you can imagine, we were all going through a lot of emotions as we comprehended our loss. Having this property helped give us the space we needed and because of the view reminded us that we every day you have is a gift.

All we needed

Once a year my BF and I get our families together somewhere between our cities and chill for a long weekend. We are usually looking for something of a Big Chill house (movie reference). In that, we scored with Penny's home in Quincy. Her home is truly beautiful and was designed for entertaining. The entire property can be seen from two sitting areas plus an screen room facing the woods and Quincy Bay. The kitchen was massive and had everything we needed. And the bedrooms were perfect for what we needed. It was spotless and you can tell the home is cared for and loved. She did let us know that 5 and older were okay, and with that I agree: there are a lot of little treasures that littles would be attracted to. There's enough room for multiple cars and even a garage we could use. There's a trail behind the home that takes you to the Bay. And it's a super quiet neighborhood. We got there at night and were stunned the next day when we went exploring. In all, it's an excellent place for us to call home for a long weekend!

Mansion on the Mississippi

The home is large enough to accomodate a large group. We had 8 adults staying here. Plenty of room to host extended family for meals and entertaining. Screened porch it a great addition to the space. Our family was comfortable and enjoyed our stay very much. Quincy is having a very hot summer and this homes airconditioner was a welcome treat! The following comments are for "picky" vacationers to know. None of the things hindered our stay, but we are easy going people. The beds are OK. They won't be good for a light sleeper, however, very noisy with squeeks and loose headboards hitting wall with every toss and turn. Basement space is sort of weird. Most younger kids would not be comfortable there. Do not expect much in the way of basic pantry items or cleaning supplies. We had to buy everything from ketchup to a broom. We had planned a cookout, but grill did not work. One of the patio chairs was broken and so was the ice dispenser on the fridge door. Very few negatives considering how much this home offers.

Quincy Christmas with the Family

Very Beautiful Home. Wonderful view of River and Eagles flying by daily. Owner very responsive to questions. New pans in Kitchen and awesome big Stove for cooking family meals. Use of garage with winter stormy weather was an excellent perk. Great place for Quincy.

Great house and location but…

The home is beautiful. It’s a bit dated but the rooms are nice. A drawback is the queen size beds and also a poor mattress in the basement bedroom. No window coverings so we supplied our own for bedrooms. Biggest issue is that overgrowth blocks 90% of the river view. The view would be incredible if it weren’t for the foliage block. But we enjoyed our stay and the host was good to work with.

Great Home Base for a Family Wedding

From check in to check out everything was amazing at this immaculate home that over looks the Mississippi River. Spacious and bright. Wonderful kitchen but could use an upgrade on pots/pans to take advantage of the gourmet stovetop. Double wall ovens were a luxury.

Disappointing - not what cracked up to be.

Disappointing. Description does not match reality. Large home - not mansion. Needs maintenance. Cleanliness in light of Covid not provided. Linens, bedding and towels shabby and stained. Will not be back.

Family time

My husband and I along with my brother and his adult kids came back to Quincy for our mother's funeral. Renting this house was the best thing we could have done. We had plenty of room for sleeping us all comfortably. Wish the bedrooms had curtains. Lots of room for family members to come visit with us. Thanks for making a sad time very relaxing

Fabulous Quincy Home

We spent 4 nights in this stunning home that is located at the end of a beautiful street. You can tell the amazing decorations are from all over the world. The kitchen is gorgeous, but would benefit from a few more cooking pans and coffee cups. The screened in back porch was our favorite part of the house. We had coffee there every morning watching the magnificent variety of birds perching in the trees. There are two things that bothered us and would keep us from renting this home again. 1. There are no window coverings, not even in the bedroom. We don’t mind not having coverings in the main part of the house, but the bedrooms should have some kind of privacy. 2. Speaking of privacy, there are cameras in the house. I understand cameras on the front and back porch, but there is also a camera by the stairs in the living room. This home is beautiful, reasonably priced and relaxing. I would ask about the window coverings and cameras if I were planning on renting this place in the future.

Charming Family get together home

Gorgeous home sitting on the bluff overlooking the river. A wonderful setting for relaxing and enjoying the area. Penny and the property manager were very easy to work with and responsive for questions and needs. Loved the streaming Netflix movie feature. We look forward to the opportunity to return.

This rental and the owners are great. Everything was so clean and perfect. The location was awesome with views of the river from every room in the house. Beautiful screened in patio ,hardwood floors and if you like to cook , state of the art kitchen. Mrs. Penny had whatever you need in that house and was just a email of phone call away if you needed anything. And if you never been to Quincy its a great friendly town. I stayed for a month and loved every bit of my stay. Thank you Mrs. Penny I will definitely book your house every time I come to Quincy

Beautiful but needs attention to details

We stayed at this beautiful home for three nights for a retreat with friends. The house is clean and lovely and the location is great. We really enjoyed the screened-in porch and the large kitchen. However, the owner needs to do an inventory of the kitchen equipment and replace several worn out items. The cookware should be thrown out and replaced, as the nonstick coating is flaking off badly. We went to the store and bought a pan to cook our meals. The knives are dull, the dishes and cutlery are odd sets that don't have enough for a group, and the coffee pot doesn't work properly. There were also several cracked mugs and plastic cups. The bedrooms are large but they don't have window treatments for privacy (other than one room with a paper (!!) shade that didn't cover the window and couldn't be raised or lowered). The bedding is worn (there were tears in the sheets on my bed) and the pillows need to be replaced. There weren't any extra pillow cases or linens in the house, and my bed's pillows did not have pillow cases. I had to cover a pillow with a shirt for sleeping. There are no mattress covers on the beds which is kind of gross. There are no hand towels, the bath towels and wash cloths are worn, there are no waste baskets in the baths/bedrooms and there are no extra towels. There was no extra toilet paper or paper towels, and no tissues, so we had to buy all of that. None of the outlets worked in one of the bedrooms. There were no bedroom lamps in two of the bedrooms for reading at night, and the third bedroom lamp wouldn't turn on due to the outlet problem. The lighting in the hall bath is inadequate. The dining room chairs are stained and worn. The patio set is rickety and the cushions are worn out so that seating is uncomfortable. As a group, we found it odd that the house is so absolutely beautifully made and yet missing so many basic items that can be easily purchased at Walmart for a few hundred dollars. I think that, properly equipped, this home will be a fantastic rental property for groups. It just needs some attention to the details that guests expect from overnight accommodations of this caliber and price. A high end home with mismatched, garage-sale quality cookware and linens just doesn't work.

Relaxing & Spacious Property with Lovely Views!

The home was very clean, spacious and top quality construction. The views are very relaxing. The owners are very responsive. It had an amazing gourmet kitchen, but it wasn't stocked well with cooking materials of the same quality but I made what was there work for our vacation. It was a wonderful way for our family to all stay in one place while traveling vs having to get separate hotel rooms. Beds were super comfortable, but the pillows were really flat & not comfortable for sleeping. Best kept secret in Quincy, Il! I loved it & would stay there again in a heart beat!

Luxury Furnishings throughout- gorgeous views of the Mississippi River and Magnificent grounds. 5 minutes to downtown. An abundance of wildlife on the property, beautiful birds, an array of nature forever changing! The property has beautiful grounds for my small dog. The home has gorgeous fireplaces, entertaining area, sunning outside porch with Grill and Gas torches. Fireflies in the summertime and hummingbirds it is beautiful. This Home is like a picture, was visited never forgotten! that is why I moved from the other side of the world, I fell in love with a house! Enjoy the moments you spend here as I have! Penny :)
