De propiedad local, mantenido y ocupado por una familia de la isla de varias generaciones, Black Dog Watch es un gran apartamento en un nuevo dúplex ocupado por un propietario en una propiedad elevada al otro lado del puerto, que ofrece maravillosas vistas del puerto de Southwest, la costa de Manset y las islas Cranberry. Estacione sus autos en la propiedad y camine 5 minutos hasta todo lo que Southwest Harbor tiene para ofrecer al estar justo en Main St. El muelle está directamente cruzando la calle junto con 2 restaurantes a poca distancia. La casa ofrece WiFi, cable, Roku, reproductor de DVD con varias películas / espectáculos, y puede dormir de 8 a 10 personas con 2 habitaciones king size, 2 habitaciones con un conjunto de gemelos y un sofá extraíble opcional. We had a great time at this property! We loved the SW Harbor location and proximity to restaurants. The drive to Acadia was 25 minutes or so, and there are some nice trails closer to SW Harbor too. The kitchen was well stocked and the room setup was perfect for 4 adults and 4 kids. Would definitely stay again!

Easy to get to. Lots of room to relax and play games with the family. Host was very nice. We arrived late due to flights and he went over and put the lights on for us. He also answered my questions before we got there.

Great location

Great location in Southwest Harbor. Not nearly as crowded as Bar Harbor, which is exactly what we were looking for. Short walk to restaurants, shops, coffee shops in town. Easy ride to nearby Acadia hiking, beaches, etc. Host (Luke) made check in process easy, would definitely book a return trip!

The property was outstanding. Furnishings were clean and comfortable. The location was very nice; close to everything, but not congested. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Accommodations were great

The place was well stocked and had everything we needed. The location right in Southwest Harbor gave us a great view of the harbor and in close proximity to restaurants and the town. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are in close proximity where we spent several days. The owners were very responsive to our needs.

Wonderful ocean view. Excellent owner very communicative. Property was clean. Wasn't clear at time of booking – probably my own fault – this is the lower half of an up/down duplex. Some noise from upstairs but not enough to bother us. Great access to Acadia wonderful restaurant across the street and coffee half a block away.

Perfect Getaway

My husband and daughter stayed three nights and it was perfect for them. Luke and Jackie were very friendly and responsive, the condo was clean, cozy and comfortable, and the location was close to hiking, kayaking, restaurants, etc. Highly recommend!

This was an excellent stay! Luke communicated the check in process/info before we arrived, along with some local recommendations. He provided contact info for himself and others in case of emergencies. The location was clean, and a large space for us to relax. We had a gorgeous view of the harbor and it was walking distance to some local places. We enjoyed sitting on the huge deck (and the gate provided helped to keep our dogs on the deck). We met Luke as he lives nearby and appreciated his local suggestions. We would definitely recommend this location to stay again- it was a short drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor and just what we wanted. Thank you again for providing such a great stay!

Nice place in Southwest harbor

Very nice place, clean and well maintained, walking distance to Southwest harbor. Large outdoor deck with a nice view of the harbor. It’s one portable A/C unit so bedrooms can get warm on hot days but usually cools off enough at night. Only issue we had is that we were told our dog can’t be left alone hours before checking in… where previous instructions and listing indicated otherwise. Listing is updated now. Clark point cafe in easy walking distance was excellent for breakfast.

Relaxing hideaway

Nestled above a small harbor in Maine is a lovely little home that overlooks the harbor. Down the way and around the corner, you can find the freshest lobsters in town. Our hosts were awesome at communicating with us and were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We felt completely at home. The home was close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. We had a wonderful stay. Many thanks to Luke and Jackie.

Great Vacation at the Black Dog Watch

We had a great time at the Black Dog Watch! The place is well-equipped, the furniture is comfortable and the location is perfect. The ocean views from the front porch cannot be beat, and offers a great place for grilling and outdoor meals. The location is great and allows for easy access to SWH and anywhere on the Island. We enjoyed getting fresh bread every morning at Little Notch Bakery and getting lobsters at Thurstons Lobster Pound in Bass Harbor. It was a wonderful, seamless rental experience and we will return!

Great spot for family vacation

We stayed at Breakwater in October 2023 with two young families. The apartment is well stocked and worked well for two couples with three kids under 4. Luke was super accomodating and provided us with pack n plays and a high chair, and was also very responsive. Location is great - walk across the street to the harbor to check out boats and birds, or walk down to the village for breakfast or dinner. We loved our stay in Southwest Harbor and at Breakwater. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed for our Maine vacation.

Multi-generation family vacation for 6

Nice place with a nice view. Two grandparents, three adults, and an infant. We didn’t even need to use one of the bedrooms. We were pleased with the arrangement of the bathroom and half bath both being accessed from the living room area and available without having to go through anyone’s bedroom. Nice location within easy walking distance of Southwest Harbor shops and restaurants. Short drive to hiking trails, museums, and Acadia National Park. Very nice hosts provided helpful tips for hikes, restaurants, and groceries.

Excellent stay and location

This was our first trip to Acadia and couldn’t have picked a better property. It was as described. We were very comfortable with how roomy the house was and ended each night on the deck with the fire-pit and great view of the dock across the way. The house was very clean and well-situated within short walking distance to the town’s shops and restaurants. Luke is always accessible and extremely helpful with any questions and recommendations. It was relaxing to be on the quieter side of the island, with plenty of hiking trails nearby, but also close enough with a short drive to the Bar Harbor area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and look forward to coming back. Highly recommend!

Great home base to explore Acadia!

My husband and I recently stayed at Black Dog Watch for a few days while exploring Acadia National Park. It was a great home base for exploring all of the main attractions in Acadia nothing was much more than a 30 minute drive. The property is exactly like the pictures on VRBO. Well equipped if you want to eat in/ cook- it was a great plus to have a washer and dryer as well. Very cozy and comfortable accommodations. We were over in Bar Harbor one day and it was ridiculously crowded and no availability for dinner at restaurants (all the waits were an hour plus). It was so much nicer to stay in Southwest Harbor- glad we picked it over Bar Harbor! Luke is very responsive to any questions you have and can give great recommendations for dining, hiking, ect. I am so glad we picked Black Dog Watch for our stay! I would definitely stay there again.

Luke and Jackie met in Bar Harbor in March of 2009 and got married in July of 2013. Luke had just got home from 3 months at sea and was going out with some friends for a drink. Jackie saw the first new man she had seen all winter and claimed him immediately. You know.... storybook love story at a pub on a Maine island in winter!

Luke and his family have been on MDI and have fished the waters for generations. Luke was a Merchant Marine Engineer for several years sailing large ships all over the world until he met Jackie and came home from sea. He is now an engineer at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor and helps run the utility plant there.

Jackie is originally from Downeast Maine but has been in the MDI area for over 20 years. She has worked in several restaurants in the area and can give you excellent suggestions for varying types of cuisine and wine. She is now a dental hygentist and practices in Town Hill/Bar Harbor.

Luke and Jackie love to hike all over MDI with their black lab, Lucy and son Cole. They will be happy to give advise of what to do while you're here and where to go.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento

Luke and Jackie have been looking to move back onto MDI for 2 years and finally found this amazing property which they both (miraculously) liked! All the amenities of living in town while having an amazing view of Southwest Harbor and shorter commutes to work is all it took for them to make the easy decision to buy this house. Since it was just the 2 of us originally, we decided to share the property with all the visitors that enjoy their Island as much as they do.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial

The sunrise over Islesford and Great Cranberry Island from bedroom #4 (or the deck) is amazing! If you're not a morning person, you can at least set your alarm, open the shades, enjoy the view, and go back to bed!

The 52 ft deck with 2 entrances to the apartment is by far the spot where most folks spend their time. 1/2 of the deck is shaded by a 2nd story deck above, and 1/2 is open and sunny with a full southern exposure, all while overlooking Southwest Harbor. Several cedar chairs are provided for lounging along with a cedar picnic table and Weber grill.

We have all the advantages of all the other Main street property with a sidewalk going right into town so you can park you car and walk to the market, pub, restaurant, or playground. However, we are a B lot so we have buffer from the road to dampen any traffic noise and not worrying about the kids or the dog being too close to the road. Being on the side of a hill we still have a great view without our front neighbors obstructing the Harbor.
