The volcano mist cottage was such a lovely stay. The lush green rainforest surrounding the cottage needs to be seen to be believed, photos do not do justice to how serene the setting is. The cottage itself was very well set up. The owners have paid attention to small details like battery operated candles, the basics for our first breakfast, a full kitchen, and colored pencils and a guest book with guest testimonials dating back to so many years, to name only a few. Overall this felt like a lovely vacation, we fell in love with volcano and the big island. Hoping to be back soon.

This was a beautiful property in every way, the hot tub and the outdoor shower are phenomenal, the lovely owners left some fresh bananas, croissants, and granola for us upon arrival. Property was beautiful and well-maintained, literally nothing bad to say about this place whatsoever. It is gorgeous and we very much appreciate Janet and Paul! Someday we will return to Hilo and stay here again! Mahalo!

From the moment we stepped through the door, my husband exclaimed, “Oh, I wish we were staying here longer!” After several nights in resort hotels across Hawaii, this charming cottage near Volcanoes National Park felt like a true retreat — private, peaceful, and rejuvenating.Nestled deep within a lush rainforest, the Volcano Mist Cottage surpassed our expectations in every way. Surrounded by exotic plants and serenaded by the magical chirping of coqui frogs, the setting was absolutely enchanting. Arriving after dark, we were welcomed by a warm, beautifully lit cottage that instantly felt cozy and inviting.The attention to detail in this home is exceptional. We were delighted to find a thoughtfully stocked kitchen — fresh tropical fruit, farm-fresh eggs, buttery croissants, and handy pantry staples. Every comfort has been considered: the bed and linens are indulgently luxurious, and the furnishings are both comfortable and tastefully exotic, perfectly complementing the surroundings.One of our favorite features was the stunning outdoor shower — an experience not to be missed! While I only dipped my feet into the hot tub under the night breeze, even that felt wonderfully relaxing and serene.In every sense, our stay at Volcano Mist Cottage was an unforgettable highlight of our trip. We savored every moment and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this magical hideaway to anyone seeking a peaceful escape in the heart of Hawaii’s rainforest.

Incredible experience

Tucked away in the jungle with wild pheasants roaming the property, indoor and lanai fireplaces, and a really amazing outdoor hot tub, this gorgeous cottage was perfect for the weekend. We loved everything about this place.

Amazing Rental

Volcano Mist Cottage was everything as advertised...beautiful setting, all the amenities, wonderful hot tub, peaceful environment. We really enjoyed how quiet it was in the evening and the morning after a long day of activities.Volcano National Park is only a 5 min drive away. Very convenient! We rode ebikes through the park which is a great way to see the park. We also went to the town of Volcano market. Lots of fun. It's about a 45 min drive to Hilo.The owners keep their rental in perfect condition. It was very clean and the expectation is that guests keep it that way..like shoes off at the door, shower and dip feet in bucket before getting in the hot tub. Only thing is that it is tight in the bedroom and not much room for suitcases. restful after a long day of activities.

Magical retreat

Volcano Mist Cottage is a very special place! Janet and Paul have created a beautiful retreat and thought of every detail. Instructions for being good guests were easy to follow and the information left for finding nearby fun and adventure was thorough. The spirit of the place is relaxing and joyful! We loved our experience here and hope to return!!

Serene Island Getaway

We enjoyed every detail of this beautiful cottage. The craftsmanship is esquitiste. The hot tub was relaxing and the extra warm blankets and two fireplaces were much appreciated to warm us up on cool mornings. We will definitely be back!

One of the best properties I’ve stayed at. Super private and tranquil, only a couple of miles from the national park. I wish I could have stayed longer. I’m sure to book here again if I ever pass through!

Romantic, Cozy Cabin

We stayed in this beautiful home for a week. It was the perfect getaway! The garden is breathtaking, the outdoor shower and hot tub was amazing! The tranquility, beauty, and privacy was incredible. This is our second trip to Volcano because we fell in love with this area the first time. We will come back and will stay in this house again.

Sanctuary!

This cottage is truly a sanctuary. From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the beauty and tranquility of this property. The cottage itself is beautifully built and appointed. The bed was very comfortable and it was so lovely to wake up every morning to the tropical surroundings right outside the large windows. The sound of the light rain and birds chirping was very relaxing. My very favorite part of the day was drinking my coffee on the lenai and relaxing while surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the forest. My husband’s favorite part was relaxing in the hot tub after a day of hiking in Hawaii Volcanos National Park, and our toddler found the property to be loaded with interesting discoveries. We would be thrilled to stay here again in the future.

Exceptional!

We loved our stay at this amazing cottage! Just driving down the dead-end street for the first time was magical! So private and peaceful! Attention to detail (bathrobes, umbrellas, perishable practical food items, water cooler, etc.), lovely living spaces in and out, and the beautiful gardens - we were so comfortable here! Sitting in the hot tub was a wonderful way to end our days of hiking at the park (which was just a short drive away). We had one question and Scott returned our call within minutes. Owners Paul and Janet also corresponded regularly once we booked. We hope to return to Volcano Mist! Thank you!

Rainforest oasis

This was the most beautiful place, just like out of a movie. So peaceful and relaxing. We absolutely loved every bit of this place. The outdoor shower and hot tub were breathtaking as well as just sitting outside listening to the rain and birds and watching the scenery. The hosts were friendly and let us check in early and the property manager was prompt and extremely nice, we definitely can’t wait to stay again!!

Our Stay at the Volcano Mist Cottage was outstanding. The check in process was seemless & the property managers were very accommodating with any questions about the property or area. Cozy, romantic hideaway

Our stay was like a dream! Lush forest and gardens surround the house. We could hear nothing but birds, breeze through the trees, and sometimes the sound of raindrops. We both tried the outdoor shower, and now I want one in my backyard! The hosts left us a gift of fresh fruit, which was very appreciated! They thought of every possible need, from bathrobes to double sets of towels on a warming rack, not to mention an air purifier if we ever caught a whiff of volcanic smog aka “vog”—but we didn’t. We spent most of our time at Volcano National Park (which is about five minutes away) but I would have liked another day or two to spend time in front of one of the fire places with a book and a cup of tea. When we stay in Volcano again (and there will be a next time!) I’ll insist on a reservation at Volcano Mist!

Rainforest Perfection

Just as advertised. Quiet, (well, there were the Coquí serenades each evening) secluded retreat to nature while having just about anything you can possibly need to stay at Volcano NP. The binoculars and flashlights were an unexpected treat for our nighttime treks to the park for lava viewing. When I say well stocked, I don't think I could have asked for something that wasn't already conveniently stashed somewhere in the unit. This was the first time we stayed on that side of the island and noticed on arrival there were 2 fireplaces but no A/C, prompting a bit of panic at first. That was until evening rolled around and we realized why! Who needs A/C when the temp is in the 60s? Everything about this place is exactly what you would want for an adult get-a-way! Highly recommended.

A magical place

Amazing property. Recommend to anyone wanting to stay near the Volcano National Park.

Such an amazing house. Very private and gorgeous setting. House was clean and fully stocked. The outdoor shower was magical with the sun shining down. Loved the hot tub in the evening as well. Quick trip to gorgeous black sand beach and Kileauau. Recommend this property to anyone staying in the area!!!

Heaven in Hawaii

This place was truly amazing- my husband and I stayed here during our honeymoon! It was the perfect jumping off point to explore Volcano and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and an even better place to come home to after a long day of hiking… especially with the romantic and calming hot tub. We had the best time and 10/10 would recommend to others!
