My sisters, our daughters and my mom rented this house to celebrate her 80th birthday. The seven of us had a wonderful time. Vaughn and Pat were very responsive hosts, and we loved all the welcoming touches the house had with coffee, snacks and wine. Our stay started off rocky due to an Alaska Airlines IT outage that delayed our arrival by a day, and Vaughn and Pat were very accommodating and offered us an extra day. Their quick communication made our stressful travel a bit easier. Also, the pictures don't do the view from the living room of the ocean justice! It was an easy drive to downtown Carmel. We'd definitely stay again.

The villa is even more beautiful than it appears in the photos. With a view of the water, the mountains, and the Mission, it’s just breathtaking. You can sit outside on the expansive balcony and just watch the sights and see the light change the views. The villa is also gorgeous and beyond well appointed. Vaughn and Pat have thought of everything. From a fridge that had some basics in it like milk, half and half, butter, juice, cheese, wine, water and other items to a tremendously well stocked coffee station, it was above and beyond. Vaughn and Pat are also very friendly and were responsive to all of our needs and questions. They are truly a pleasure. The villa is also in a fabulous location. You are just a little over a half a mile from the heart of Carmel and while the walk to town is a little hilly, it’s gorgeous with much of the walk done on well groomed trails. If you choose not to walk, Ubers are plentiful, quick and cheap so once you’re at the villa, you only need to drive if you want to explore up or down the coast. My wife and I will definitely be visiting again, and highly recommend the property for your trip.

50th wedding anniversary

The property was in superb condition on arrival and met all of our expectations. We honestly didn’t know what to expect because all arrangements were made via the internet. We found the owners, Vaughn and Pat to be friendly and accommodating. We were very pleased with our stay and we highly recommend this venue.

Incredible views and wonderful living/kitchen area

This was our fourth visit - so needless to say we love the place. Very comfortable and well stocked. Vaughn and Pat are incredibly helpful with any needs.

Can’t be beaten

Could not have asked for a better holiday. The house was fantastic. The location even better. Ongoing dialogue with the owners was great. The property included everything we needed and you are very close to town to the extent you need something else. We really enjoyed our time there with our family.

Perfect place to relax with lovely ocean views

It was wonderful to return to Villa Mare a second time to unwind post-Christmas. The home is beautifully designed both inside and out. And we love its 180-degree view (mountains and ocean!), from its top floor which has a huge open plan grand room + balcony. We so enjoyed spending much of our time there. Its really a 'destination home' in the unbeatable location of Carmel Pat and Vaughn are also very gracious hosts, provisioning their home with many extras and accommodating requests for a late check out. Its on our list to return again!

Spacious with great views

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Mare. The house is spacious with several outdoor balconies and indoor nooks for communal gathering, game-playing or private reading. Its elevation commands lovely views over the rooftops to the bay. The kitchen is excellently appointed for home cooking. The bathrooms are clean, roomy and generously stocked with amenities. The beds are comfortable. Pat and Vaughn are attentive, friendly hosts who remained discreet but available to answer any questions. The location is a quick drive down the hill into Carmel (or a nice walk for the hardy) and only 10-15 minutes to Monterey, with convenient access as well to a host of course options for golfers. No regrets here.

Best of Both Worlds Oceanview Mountainview Italian & Modern

Hosts kept in excellent communication with us from start to end. So grateful they accommodated all 8 of us for my husband’s milestone bday. Met up w/ our kids & their partners (ages 21-27yrs.) came from 5 cities in Europe,Canada & the U.S.This Villa took our breath away (& we are seasoned 5-star global travellers -for business & pleasure)! High quality, custom-built Villa with superb views of ocean & mountains; lots of natural light from skylights/windows; elevator, Top quality for everything; beautiful decor; very clean; very comfy beds/bedding; open-concept living room/ dining room/ kitchen/library; large outdoor furnished terrace w bbq/fire table/heater+2 private furnished decks off 2 bdrms; well-stocked with towels (bath,beach,kitchen towels); all supplies (Ziploc bags; alum.foil; Saran Wrap; etc.);pots/serving bowls/cutlery/wine glasses; laundry chute; the outdoor shower was a hit!; 1 bathroom easy to share due to private toilet/ private shower/ double sinks.Games Rm. Located next to an easy 20min.Trail walk to Mission Ranch Restaurant, the Carmel Mission, Carmel Beach & downtown Carmel. Near Monterey/Pebble Bch/ Point Lobos. One daughter got a soccer injury 2days prior & Hosts got her a Transport Chair for her use for free! Had the best beach chairs/wheeled cooler & a Beautyrest plug in inflatable air mattress. Grocery Starter kit was great! Tip: Bring eye mask for MasterBdrm to sleep-in. Nothing else needed. Nice to add: Füssball table? Hot tub? Can’t wait to return!

Wonderful--Again!!

We had a wonderful stay on this property last year and were very happy to return for a week this spring. Again, we had a wonderful time!! The property is lovely, well appointed, and located in a great spot. Hosts Pat and Vaughn are truly special people and they attend to every need with speed and grace. Staying there is like staying in an Italian villa. The main living space has glass walls and a view of the Mission and the ocean. The property sits right next to easy trails that one can take to get to the ocean in 15-20 minutes on foot. And in front of the property there is a lovely garden and fountain. We had such a relaxed time and were able to enjoy the downtown restaurants 10 minutes away by far. A big thanks again to Pat and Vaughn. We look forward to returning!

Nothing short of Celebrity Style Vacation!

Over the 30 years we have been renting via VRBO, we have never stayed in such a beautiful, grand and well designed home! Pat and Vaughn pretty much thought of everything from major to the most minor details and amenities to make us feel absolutely welcome and appreciated. My whole family stayed comfortably and were overwhelmed by the beauty of the house and terrace view from morning to night. The only negative part was having to leave.. We WILL be back and likely with some close friends. Hard not to want to come back to this home. Thank you! Chafic, Sheila, Drew, Bryson, Amina and Tyler

Absolutely wonderful!

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The property, home and hosts were as billed and much, much more. Modern Italian villa with every amenity and a stunning view from a living area with a folding glass wall that allows a gentle sea breeze to roll in. A one minute walk from trails and a historic mansion, and six-minute drive to downtown Carmel's terrific restaurants. Plenty of space, extremely well maintained. And our hosts are very special people, who were fun to speak with and who were clearly committed to making our stay perfect. Very highly recommended--we will be back!

Wonderful Venue for a Special Event

A group of women convened at Villa Marie for a surprise 50th birthday celebration. What a wonderful venue for such an occasion. We cooked, hiked, shopped, and simply spent time visiting and enjoying the awesome vistas. Pat and Vaughn are delightful--the perfect hosts. Would love to make this an annual outing!

Absolutely Gorgeous

I have stayed at plenty of VRBO homes and condo's and this has to be the nicest home we have ever stayed in! Vaughn and Pat are great hosts and the nicest of people. They have thought of every amenity, from coffee, to everything else you might need. They wanted to model the experience to staying in a five star hotel, and they have succeeded at offering that. The views from the balcony are breathtaking, whether you want to have your morning coffee out there, or watch the sunset with a glass of wine. This living room opens up to the deck with accordian windows and starting a roaring fire in the family room fireplace really makes the downstairs feel cozy. If you want to prepare your own meals, they have everything you need, or if you want to go out to eat, you are five minutes from restaurants in Carmel. The elevator is also very handy getting your luggage or groceries up to the top floor. The outside deck has BOTH a firepit, and a propane heater so whether it's summer and it's foggy, or winter and it can be in the 50's, you'll be plenty warm and enjoying the view. I highly recommend that anyone who wants a once in a lifetime experience in Carmel, rent this home, you won't be sorry. Dave Thomas
