Escape to this family-friendly Western Michigan cabin near Lake Michigan! Nestled between Pentwater and Ludington, this property is located a short (3-minute) drive from the fresh waters of Lake Michigan and a quick (5-minute) walk from Bass Lake. Ideal for both relaxation and adventure, Basswood Hideaway promises a memorable stay for families, couples, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Comfortable Sleeping Arrangements: Two cozy bedrooms, one featuring a queen-size bed and one with a full-size bed, plus a convenient queen-size sofa sleeper on the spacious porch/entryway.
Home Comforts: Enjoy the convenience of a fully equipped kitchen, one full bathroom, TV, and complimentary Wi-Fi for those rainy days indoors.

Outdoor Adventures and Amenities:
Lake Michigan Access: Just a half-mile to Summit Park or the family-friendly Bass Lake Outlet Beach, where you can enjoy sandy beaches and stunning sunsets. Summit Park has the additional attraction of a playground, tennis and basketball courts, and a picnic area.
Bass Lake Fun: Minutes away from boating, fishing, and water sports at Bass Lake and its outlet with access to Lake Michigan.
Explore Pentwater: Located only 10 minutes away, this village is bursting with local charm and events.
Additional Perks: Use of two kayaks (with paddles and life jackets), a charcoal grill, beach chairs, and a cooler to enhance your outdoor experience. Take the kayaks to the Bass Lake boat ramp and kayak your way to Lake Michigan (approx. 1 hour round-trip) or pack a cooler full of snacks and drinks and head to the beach for the day.

I was here with my family for 5 days. We had a wonderful time. The cabin has a great vintage feel to it. It reminded us of our family cabin in the U.P., just not as secluded. It had all the amenities that we needed for our stay and was very comfortable. The area beaches were easily accessed and beautiful. Make sure to go to Bortell's up the street for some fried, smoked or fresh fish! It is well worth it.

Cabin in nice location.

We stayed in this cabin August 2024 and it definitely has the cabin smell that’s a little overwhelming when you first enter. It was fine for us to come back to in the evening after our day trips. Close to visit Ludington and Pentwater. Also Lake Michigan or inland Bass Lake for beach days. The carpet and couch could use a good shampoo otherwise, it was equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Annual Pentwater Trip

The property was very clean and had a few bonus items like a basketball hoop & ball, kayaks & cart, smart TV and two seating areas. It is located at the opening of a quiet no outlet road which was perfect for walking the dogs. We had a wonderful time staying at Basswood Hideaway!

Don’t worry about the roaches

Initially property looked clean and well taken care of. After a day went by my wife killed a bug on the counter and showed it to me. She said it was the fifth ones she’s killed. At first glance it appeared to be a cockroach. After some online searching it was confirmed to be a roach. We communicated the issue with the host and we were told they would send someone out and thanked us for making them aware, with kids and dogs we opted to wait. We seen and killed 3 more of the next 2 days and one night while searching for our son’s blanket found cockroach traps all throughout the house. This lead me to believe they were aware and didn’t communicate it with us. We again contacted the host and were told nobody else complained about them and the cockroach poison was just precautionary. We were also told it’s a cabin in the woods bugs should be expected. We are home now washing and sanitizing all our belongings in hopes not to bring cockroaches into our home.

Fantastic little Spot!!

Awesome location with great beaches very close by. House was perfect for our family of 4. Would definitely recommend for anybody looking to check out the dunes and wonderful beaches in the area.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: That was a nice (and short) week. Beautiful place. It is on the intersection of two not very busy roads, but is set back enough for privacy. The cabin is very clean and has everything you need. I found that grilling tools were missing, but Nikki arranged replacement within 30 minutes. Great response time and attention! The place is great for a small family. For those traveling with dogs and prefer a relaxed not crowded beach, I recommend Buttersville park and beach - about 12 minutes drive north on Lakeshore Drive. There’s a lot of options for people with various interests: swimming and other water sports, fishing, dining. Speaking about all those options, the folder on the kitchen table has a lot of recommendations and is really helpful.In general, a great stay except for deadly mosquitoes. There were a couple of rainy and stormy days, and the cabin is between Lake Michigan and Bass Lake, so the humidity was bad. I would definitely recommend to stay there and will try to rent again if it’s available.Thank you.

Great Michigan Family Vacation

Nostalgic

Loved my stay. The cabin has the old michigan musk to it, but in the best way. It reminds me of going up north when I was a kid. And for the price you can't really beat the location. Also, in the cabin you'll find a binder with recommendations for beaches, food, hiking, etc. Much appreciated!

Michigan family vacation

This was a lovely property to spend time with family. Had a fire most evenings. The sleeper on the porch wasn't the most comfortable so we used an air matress and that worked great.

Great vacation spot

We had a wonderful time staying at this property. Nice little beach called the outlet right down the road and close to downtown Pentwater, which was an adorable little town. Very dog friendly, Lake Michigan Mears state park has a really nice dog beach and it wasn’t overly crowded. The cottage was great, they had all the amenities and it was very clean. Wi-Fi worked great and the had google tv in the bed room to snuggle and watch movies at night. Property was quiet, it is off lakeshore drive and some people speed through the windy road. However, the house is set far enough back from the road that it’s not dangerous to have pups or children out front. Beach chairs and other beach items in the shed for use! Loved that the provided a binder with a list of restaurants, beaches, activities and more with a description for each, very helpful. If you are looking for a nice day activity, Stoney Lake Stables is about a half hour drive and they offer horse riding through trails. All in all, awesome vacation spot!

Cozy and relaxing

Great little property with fast response from the management also helping us when I let her know of a small problem after check out it’s a little stuffy but opened all the windows and aired it out the cabin keeps very cool with only on window unit and it’s so close to the lake! It was very relaxing with everything that you need in the kitchen for cooking ,comfortable beds

The manager accommodated us by bringing a crock pot early on Saturday morning. I thought that was over & beyond, & very grateful for the gesture. We went hiking & came back to a hot meal in the evening! Hiking the many trails or walking along the beach are what we enjoyed, but there are many, many more activities for all.

A great cabin weekend!

We stayed with family for a long cabin weekend. It is definitely a woodsy cabin/cottage vibe. Bugs included. It’s very cozy. And the Dog friendly cabin was key! Restaurants/shopping in Ludington and Pentwater are a quick drive. Overall, worked out perfect for us
