A Log Home Above the Lake | Hickory Hills Cabin

This Rent In Highlands vacation rental home is pet friendly for one small dog, under 20 pounds. Pets must be pre-approved. An additional non-refundable pet fee is required and is not included in the rental fee. Please call our office for approval and to pay the pet  fee. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a $1000.00 fine.

Only adults (25 years old and older) may reserve this property and an adult must occupy the property at all times.

The Mountains Right Outside the Door.

There's a particular kind of magic that happens when a log home, a stone fireplace, and a wraparound deck all point toward the same thing — trees, lake, and the kind of mountain quiet that reminds you what you came here for in the first place.

Perched above Lake Sequoya, just minutes from downtown Highlands, this classic rustic log home with vaulted beam ceilings and a wraparound deck on two sides is the mountain getaway that earns every bit of the drive up. Five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a custom family table that seats ten, and enough outdoor living space to make the inside feel optional — this is the one you book when the whole crew is coming and you want everyone to leave already talking about next year.

The Heart of the Home The great room sets the tone immediately — soaring vaulted beam ceilings, a massive stone hearth with a wood-burning fireplace, and the kind of open, generous layout that pulls people together without crowding anyone out. The fully equipped kitchen flows seamlessly into the dining area, anchored by a custom-built table that seats ten and makes every meal feel like an occasion. An outdoor gas grill waits just off the kitchen for anyone who prefers their cooking with fresh air on the side. The main-level primary suite with its private ensuite rounds out the floor, giving whoever claims it the shortest walk between the fireplace and bed.

Room for Everyone, Space for Everyone Upstairs, three additional bedrooms — two queens and a bunk room with twin beds — share two full bathrooms, making the upper level a natural home base for kids and additional guests. On the lower level, a fifth bedroom with a queen bed and its own bathroom offers the kind of privacy that makes it feel like a separate retreat within the house. Each floor runs on its own thermostat, which means no group-wide negotiations over the temperature. From there, the wraparound deck extends across two sides of the home, connecting the kitchen and dining area for effortless outdoor entertaining and offering a patio dining setup that makes al fresco meals the easy default. Surrounded by trees with Lake Sequoya below and downtown Highlands just minutes away, the outdoor spaces here aren't an afterthought — they're the main event.

A Note on Arrival The driveway is steep, and parking space is limited — two parking pads at the top and additional parking behind the house with steps up to the main entry. A ramp is also available for convenience. If navigating a tight or steep driveway gives you pause, take a close look at the photos before booking. Once you're settled in, you won't think about it again.

Everything Else Downtown Highlands is minutes away — acclaimed restaurants, boutique shopping, waterfalls, hiking trails, and more all within easy reach. Lake Sequoya sits practically at your feet. The fireplace is ready. The table seats ten. The only thing missing is your group.

Beautiful home, nice screened in porch area with comfortable seating and plenty of room. Nicely furnished with well stocked kitchen. Close to downtown Highlands. Close to road noise but that ended by early evening.

Accommodations were just right inside. Didn’t realize that location was in a type of subdivision and so close to the highway. We also had a problem with drainage…the dishwasher overflowed. We reported all of this Sunday night. Parking for 2 cars was a challenge. Sorry we Were unable to wash towels but were afraid to with drainage problem.😊

Very nice cabin; driveway is definitely tricky

The home was clean and well stocked. The management team very responsive. We so enjoyed the wood burning fireplace and they offer to have wood there in two different size options. The home is located perfectly to Highlands. Two cons; the driveway is steep as mentioned and we found it difficult to manage with 3 cars. Also, if there was snow or ice would not want to go up or down on that driveway. The only other con is that the bedroom downstairs is subject to the creaking floors above. We had 7 adults and 2 infants and enjoyed our stay very much outside of those 2 issues.

We do note in our listing that the driveway is steep with limited parking — two pads at the top and additional space behind the house with steps up to the main entry — since the terrain here in the mountains doesn't allow for a larger lot. That said, we know it's not always easy to plan around this if you're arriving with multiple vehicles, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
