Wake up to soft morning light and a glimpse of the sea in this fully private upstairs suite, just a 5-minute walk from beautiful Mellons Bay Beach and lively Howick village.
The studio is tucked away at the back of the house with its own access. Once you go upstairs, the entire guest level is completely private – your own quiet space to relax, work or spend time with family.
Inside your little seaview studio, you’ll find:
A cosy double bedroom with a partial sea view
An additional child’s single room, perfect for a child, teenager or extra guest
Your own private bathroom with shower, toilet and basin
A comfortable lounge area where you can read, study, work or unwind after a day out
The whole upstairs floor belongs to you during your stay.
🍽 Kitchen & Dining – Free to Use Like at Home
Downstairs, you are warmly welcome to use the family kitchen and dining room just like at home:
Full access to the shared kitchen for everyday cooking
Use the stove, oven, fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle as you need
Enjoy meals together in the dining area, a relaxed, home-style space
There is no need to book time slots – the kitchen and dining room are simply shared in a friendly, respectful way. We only ask that you:
Keep the area clean and tidy after cooking
Be considerate of normal quiet hours, especially late at night or very early morning
This setup works especially well for:
Families and study trips who want to cook proper meals
Guests staying for several days or longer who prefer healthy, home-style food instead of eating out every day

I’ve been living in the Howick / Mellons Bay area for many years and I still smile every time I walk down to the beach. It’s quiet, safe and full of light – the kind of neighbourhood where you actually hear birds in the morning. I created the Little SeaView Studio because I wanted to share this side of east Auckland with guests who prefer a homely, independent base rather than a busy hotel.
The guest suite is the entire upstairs level of my home, with its own access from the garden. Once you go up the stairs, the space is completely private – your own bedrooms, lounge and bathroom. Guests often tell me it feels like a small apartment: close enough to the host if they need anything, but with plenty of space to breathe and relax.
One of the things people enjoy most is being able to live like at home. You’re welcome to use the kitchen and dining room freely – cook simple dinners, make breakfast, or sit down together after a day out. For families, especially those on study trips, this makes a big difference: children can keep their routines, parents can prepare the food they like, and everyone still has a quiet private floor to retreat to.
As a host, I’m friendly and happy to help – whether it’s tips about beaches, walks and local cafés, or practical things like transport and shopping. At the same time, I respect that many guests value their own space and quiet time. You can choose how much you want to interact: some guests enjoy chatting and sharing travel stories, others prefer a low-key stay. Either way, my goal is the same – that you feel safe, comfortable and genuinely at home while you are here in Mellons Bay.

I chose Mellons Bay because it has a rare mix of sea, village and neighbourhood warmth that’s hard to find in a big city. In just a few minutes you can walk from the house down to the beach, watch the tide come in and out, and look across the water towards Waiheke and the islands. Early in the morning you hear birds more than traffic, and in the evening the light over the bay is always changing.
At the same time, Howick village is just up the road – a real local centre with cafés, bakeries, restaurants, supermarkets and the weekend market. I love that guests can grab a coffee, pick up fresh food, talk to locals, and then be back at the studio in a few minutes on foot. It feels very safe and family-friendly, with good schools and parks nearby, but still easy to reach other parts of Auckland by car.
