We have stayed at lodges here in the past, which were spotless and well-maintained. Unfortunately, not so this one The picture on the website shows a well-maintained exterior. We found dull paint/stain starting to crack and peel, litter scattered around the entrance, dirty windows encrusted with insect nests, and overgrown shrubs impeding the satellite signal.The living room should have a sofa and two armchairs. The chairs were outside the bathroom window, soaked through. One of us had to sit at the kitchen table. There were no tea towels; I had to wash the crockery and cutlery before we could use them. All the cooker rings had ingrained dirt around them; there was rust and flaking paint along the top of the grill. There were no bath towels in one bedroom; I found some in a cupboard but did not know if they were clean.There was dirt around the bath. The Portable Appliance Tests stickers were over 12 months out of date.I tried to contact the owners. I heard nothing for nearly 36 hours, even then it was from someone no longer involved with the property. I heard from the owner on day 3 of 4. She did apologise, but no action.The stain on the living room ceiling proved to be live on day 3. I left a bucket on the floor.Why did we stay? We drove 400miles bringing my 92-year old MIL to see her sister. If it had been less than 100m, we would have turned around there and then. The lodge has an air of being unloved, as though the owners have lost interest.
