Charming Lake Michigan Cabin on 60 Acres of Peaceful Woodland

Your retreat at Wake Robin begins with a mile-long drive through wooded dunes, opening up to elevated views of Lake Michigan. This 60-acre estate features a private beachfront, firepit and hiking trails.

The Writer's Cabin can host 6 adults. Enjoy nights under the stars on the deck or lakeviews each morning from your room. Our Neighboring Main House sleeps an additional 10 adults and can be rented together or separately. Homes are separated by a dune for privacy. Beach & yard are shared.

BEACH DECK: Our private beach is complete with a redesigned stairway and illuminated deck for families to enjoy elevated views of Lake Michigan. The deck is intended to make beach toys, kayaks and SUP boards easily accessible for guests.

More about the home:

Built in 1932, this historic cabin overlooking Lake Michigan was previously the writing space for author Paul de Kruif. Today it has been restored to preserve its original charm with thoughtful modern additions.

This property includes an outdoor firepit, private beach access and hiking trails throughout the 60 acres of surrounding woods are just a few of the features offered at this home. This home is closed seasonally from Nov 1-April 30th depending on weather.

The Primary Bedroom boasts its own private entrance to the deck, with a sliding door that can be left open at night for a cool lake breeze. Remote-controlled shades in the Primary and guest bedrooms allow you to enjoy a lakeview for most of the day and privacy in the evening. The room has a King bed, cedar closet, full bathroom with double vanity and additional closets. The washer and dryer are also in the Primary bathroom.

The first guest bedroom looks onto Lake Michigan and features its own sink/vanity and remote-controlled shades. There's also a small collection of books by Paul de Kruif for guests to enjoy. At night, you can close the blinds and cozy into a King bed that can be converted into two twin sized beds upon request.

The bunk room features 2 bottom bunks for guests. TOP BUNK NOT IN USE. Both guest rooms share a full bathroom, located just off the living room.

Wake Robin is a true treasure of a location that encourages families and groups to spend time together, enjoy each other and the surroundings while allowing everything else to melt away.

A little bit of heaven

We had a wonderful family vacation! The cabin was really comfortable and with all the windows, the views were spectacular. The road to the property was quaint and the setting was peaceful and quiet with relatively easy access to the lake (especially, if one doesn't mind stairs).

Slice of heaven on earth

I can’t say enough about how warm and cozy this cabin is, or about the incredible views, or the beautiful surrounding area! And to top it off, the thoughtfulness that went into every little personalized detail the owners do, to make you feel at home, adds to “just the perfect getaway”! We are definitely making this a yearly “Pure Michigan” Fall trip! Would love to check out next door in the summer! ❤️

Beautiful cabin

Absolutely loved this place. Beautiful views, comfortable bed, great communication with the manager. Couple of minor disappointments that have nothing to do with the property but rather county rules… overall will totally recommend and will stay again

Spectacular views

We loved our time here! The cottage was a perfect add on. We rented both houses for our family and friends while celebrating a family wedding. This place is gorgeous! The property and views are spectacular! Stephanie the property manager is wonderful to work with. We hope to return someday!

Absolutely beautiful location… it is breathtaking!

The location is beautiful and most important we felt safe. There is no air conditioning so all the windows had to be open to allow for the cool breeze but we were not worried. The owners made us feel welcome with the little details they provided. Whenever we messaged them with a question they promptly replied.

Our favorite place

Every time we stay here , we don’t want to leave. Besides the breathtaking views of Lake Michigan , the surrounding woods and trails, the coziness of the cabin, there is the cleanliness and personal touches always left for us by our host. Hopefully, we’ll be able to come every year.

Cabin on the Lake

We stayed in the Cabin and felt we stayed in the best spot on all of Lake Michigan. It truly is exactly what I envisioned. The views are amazing. We'd sit in bed and just stare out at the lake. We opened the windows at night to hear the waves crashing. The cabin was lovely, charming, cute and cozy. It is truly a magical spot.

This place was beautiful. We had a wonderful time with the nature trails around the house. The area of Sagatauk and Holland is also very beautiful. I highly recommend this as a fabulous getaway spot.

The best vacation experience

The Writer’s Cabin is a dream! The view of Lake Michigan is unparalleled and the cabin is updated and immaculate. It was our first time traveling as a family of four (with an infant and a toddler) and the cabin had everything we needed, including a pack n’ play, high chair, baby bathtub... even toys! Our toddler loved the play set. Don’t miss the hiking trail up to the lookout bench—breathtaking views of the lake. We couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more and hope to come back!

A perfect escape to nature

This house was just what we were hoping for - a relaxing get away surrounded by nature and breathtaking views of the lake. The house was charming, comfortable, and extremely well equipped for an easy going time away from home. Loved it!

Another amazing stay.....

Our second Autumn coming here to the cabin and it felt like home away from home. So rustic, but quaint and cozy. Can’t say enough about the views , or all the windows in the two bedrooms to enjoy them! Love the Writer’s Cabin!

We could not have designed a better home for a last hurrah of summer getaway. The cabin was clean and modern with beautiful historic touches. Extremely well appointed and thought out. Cozy Relaxation

What a great place to get away and relax. Even with the windy weather, the cabin was very cozy and inviting. From the deck, from the kitchen window seat and from the bedroom windows, we could watch the waves roll in and the beautiful sunsets. We enjoyed visiting both Holland and Saugatuck with all of their wonderful specialty shops. Casey was very quick to respond and great to work with. She was able to answer any questions we had. We would love to stay here again someday.

Unbelievable views and great place to unwind.

The property is wonderful. The house sits right on top of Lake Michigan with unobstructed views along the entire deck. No beach this year but who cares! The property manager was the best we have ever dealt with. Both houses are close but there is privacy between the two. There is great hiking and activities near by. There are tons of food choices nearby in Holland or Saugatuck and the grocery store is 10 minutes. We had a couple hot days but it was manageable with provided fans. It cooled off and was pleasant otherwise. We would definitely repeat a stay in this house.

Perfection! Quiet and beautiful beachside retreat with lots of privacy!

This was by far the best property we’ve ever stayed at! The pictures can’t even do it justice. It is a beautifully maintained property and so well organized. We cooked nearly every meal and had everything we needed. The cabin overlooks the Lake and offers amazing views all day and night. We biked and hiked on the very long driveway and spent a lot of time relaxing on the beach. We were all so sad to leave and hope to return to this very special property!!

Beautiful week on the lake

Our family had a fabulous week at Wake Robin cabin. The location was peaceful, the beach and the waves relaxing, and the cabin was well-appointed and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed sitting on the deck for meals and to watch the stars at night. There was plenty of room for our family of 5. Casey was easy to talk to and helpful when we had questions. We would love to come back again!

A Great Vacation Spot

I and my family spent a wonderful week at wake Robin cabin. My three grown daughters were there with 3 20-ish grandkids. The location is great , hidden in the woods and directly on Lake Michigan so we spent many hours on the beach playing with the many water toys provided and soaking up the sunshine. The cabin is very well equipped, everything was provided. I mean everything! We especially loved the master bedroom with windows lining two sides and looking over the patio and the lake . Also the huge patio was well used. There are two large picnic tables as well as many chairs. All in all, a beautiful week!

The Writer's Cabin was built soon after the Main House, designed to function as both a writing studio and guest home by the author who built it. Since purchasing in 1981, we have improved the deck that wraps around the Lakeside of the home and completely remodeled the inside of the home in 2017. We've been thoughtful and ensured that any updates are provide guests with added amenities without taking away from the historic feel the home has. In Lakeside guest room, we keep a small library of books by the author who owned the home.

The kitchen and living room are conveniently close so guests can easily connect with family and friends as they prepare meals and lounge after a long day exploring the property. The banquette seating in the breakfast nook with coffee cart next to it are completed with a view of Lake Michigan at any time of the day.

The first guest bedroom can be made as 2 twin beds or a king and has a vanity, sink and small collection of books by the original homeowners. Large windows open up to a beautiful view of the Lake over the deck. The second bedroom has a cozy bunk bed and twin bed, making it a perfect kids room but still comfortable for adults. A full bathroom off the living room is shared between the two. Finally, the master is located up just a few stairs, complete with its own master bath and sliding doors that lead to a private part of the deck.
