We wanted a weekend getaway from the city and this was the perfect home to experience it! The process was easy, the house was great, the property was secluded and yet easily accessible with a short walk to the beach for beautiful sunsets. The town is a short drive away where there are great restaurants and a lively energy. Was a wonderful stay, I’d recommend it without hesitation!

Best 4th of July Ever

Huge thank you to the good people at Art Coast for making our 4th of July so awesome. We were a group that ranged in ages from 31 to 87, and we all loved Malaya Dunes. It’s a hidden gem and the perfect place for a Michigan summer getaway!

Great family vacation home!

We were all so pleased with Mayala Dunes! The setting is beautiful with a great deck and hot tub. The kitchen is well appointed, everything a cook could need. Lots of room with comfortable decor. We’d certainly recommend it to all!

Holland vacation

Great house in the woods, 1/2 mile from public beach on Lake Michigan. Terrific house with nice kitchen and living room with panoramic views of the lovely forest surroundings. Nice decks, outdoor seating and hot tub.

Great stay for a family

Our group of eight (seven adults and one toddler) had a wonderful time at Malaya Dunes. The property is beautiful and the house was perfect for our four family units to have personal space and be able to sleep comfortably but also great community space to enjoy each other’s company. We loved the hot tub, fire pit, and well equipped kitchen. The proximity to the beach was so great with still having a serene, private setting. We would love to stay here again!

We had a wonderful time. The property, house and all accomodations excelled well past expectations. It was pristine when we arrived with every detail thought of. Tons of dishwasher and laundry pods, the coffee and tea bar was a ton of fun, kitchen had great amenities, Beds were comfortable with wonderful linens, plenty of extra towels and robes too. Our boys loved running around the woods and exploring the area. It was a serene place and a bird watchers paradise. The rental management was in communication the whole time and fixed issues immediately. We used babyquip for a crib and that was incredibly helpful and seamless, management also helped us plan a private chef experience for us as an anniversary surprise and it was a phenomenal experience. The hike up the dune from the lake was a bit more challenging than our boys (3 and 4) could do but there were plenty of beach access points near by. Hot tub clean and well maintained, we had daily visits from a barrd owl that shared the property, enjoyed the quiet privacy and campfires. This was the nicest experience we've ever had with a rental property. Oh! and the extra goodies for our dog traveling with us was a delightful surprise!

A magical stay

We had a magical stay at Malaya Dune. The setting was so zen and the house had such an amazing peaceful energy. We enjoyed morning coffee on the deck listening to the birds and rustling leaves. Our evenings consisted of night swims at the lake, a soak in the hot tub, and/or huddled around the campfire. We also looked forward to (and dreaded) our daily trek over the dune to the lake.The place is in a great location, close to towns, hiking, and beaches.Thanks for sharing this magical spot.

Amazing secluded Midcentury Modern Paradise

We could not have enjoyed our time at Malaya Dunes more than we did. The hosts were thoughtful in their amenities and check-in/checkout was a breeze. Beds were comfy, kitchen was well stocked, and the outdoor dining and hot tub were perfect for our family. Could walk to the dunes/beach but with little kids we drove and parked at the bottom of the hill. Highly recommend!

So many thoughtful touches!

The house and property in the woods were so beautiful iand private it was zen-like. We enjoyed the modern comfort and cleanliness of the inside and the porch and hot tub when outside. We appreciated the quick responses to all our questions and needs. Very special experience. Thank you!

Mixed Review

This is one of the hardest reviews I’ve ever had to write because there were very big positives, but also some really big negatives. First, the positives. This house is beautiful and it sits in a very peaceful, wooded setting. Saskia was responsive to our needs as much as she could be. The house is extremely well stocked and had everything we could ever need for preparing food. There are big windows throughout the house, which really allow you to feel integrated with the beautiful setting. We loved eating outside at the nice long table.Here are our negatives. All of the air conditioning units in the bedrooms were broken. Unfortunately, the days that we rented were extremely hot and temps did not cool down at night. This made sleeping extremely uncomfortable and we were all impacted by poor sleep. Saskia did bring more fans for our 3rd night which helped but it was still very hot! The house has major ant problems. I can tell that the management was trying to do things to address the issue but we were killing or brushing out at least 30 to 40 big black ants every day. The final struggle for us was the beach access. Clearly, this is beyond the management’s ability to change, but I think it should be clear in the literature that you have to climb over a sand dune to get to the beach. It is a major exertion. I had some family members who were unable to make that trek. Finally, the VRBO map does not take you to the correct address so it took us 30 minutes to find the property.

The breakdown of the AC units right before your arrival was unexpected, but we’re glad that the main unit was operational and that we could provide fans for you before and during your stay. We hope they helped a bit but sincerely apologize for the inconvenience during your stay. We appreciate you letting us know about the ants and will ensure that pest control visits the property more frequently to address this. I know it's a particularly bad time of year for them. There are dunes all along the coast of Lake Michigan, making many of the more private beaches a bit of a hike. Sorry for any misunderstanding of the terrain. We also wish we had known about your difficulties finding the home!
