Great location

We stayed here for my daughter’s wedding. Everything from check-in to checkout was so convenient! Property was beautiful and cabin was clean. Wish we would have had more time to enjoy it.

My husband and I do a backwoods getaway every fall before the start of our busy season and what a hidden gem! It's definitely a see it to believe it when it comes to backwoods, quiet, serene...paradise. No wi-fi, even better! That alone makes you open your eyes, ears & senses to the beautiful setting around you. The house was perfectly stocked, very clean, games, dvds and had the best characteristics as a "refuge" cabin. It's the kind of place that once you get there, you never want to leave! We hiked, baked cookies, 3 puzzles, a DVD movie to finish each day. For the first time in 10 years, we finally found the place we'll always come back to. Thank you to the hosts and please don't change a thing!

The host was very responsive and helpful. The cabin is lovely and it is such a peaceful setting! We had fun sledding and working on a jigsaw puzzle. We also found some Christmas decorations to put up for an extra festive touch.

Peaceful Retreat

Super cabin in the woods. Awesome three level cabin that allowed my family to enjoy the outdoors. Close to Lake Itaska and Bemidji. Family just had a super time at the Refuge. Thanks

Excellent Family getaway

The cabin is amazing! Perfect place for our family of 6. We loved the 360 porch on the second level for watching sunsets and rises the fire pit area was great to stay out late and watch stars. I loved walking down to the lake early in the morning to observe the swan swimming and otters playing. We spent time in Bemidji at the state parks and the cabin was a great place to come back to cook great meals and relax after a day of hiking and exploring. Annie was an excellent host and did everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

Wonderful in every way

The place was beautiful! It has lots of windows and lovely views in every direction, and it's full of different comfortable places to sit and read. The kitchen has just about everything you might need, down to cheese graters and a double boiler. On the top floor, the wraparound deck is even nicer than it looks in the pictures. It was the perfect place to stay while visiting Lake Itasca State Park. Annie answered all our questions before we got there (and saved us half an hour by warning us that a county road was under construction and telling us how to go around), and even though we didn't need anything after we arrived, it was clear that help with anything large or small was only a call away. I recommend this place to anyone and hope to have the chance to go back someday!

Beautiful and peaceful

There is nothing about this place that isn’t absolutely beautiful in every way. The home was unique and so comfortable, decorated and finished with such care. The location, so remote and quiet. The 360°views from the upstairs deck, numerous windows or just walking around the carefully landscaped yard were amazingly beautiful! Cell reception and internet were just enough to keep up on things. It was good to get away from the distraction of technology. Our host Annie was on the spot to help us get a little internet service to watch the news. I wish we could have stayed longer to take a few walks down the trails and to explore the area. I’m coming back for sure. This is the perfect place to relax, reflect, and appreciate the wonderful world and country God created.

It’s a beautiful cabin with excellent amenities surrounded by the forest. If you want a peaceful, relaxing place to stay with easy access to any and all activity you can think of, you will love this place.

Everything about this property was so well thought out and beyond expectations. The owner was fantastic to communicate with. The area is incredible and so is the view. I definitely want to go back again!

MEA Getaway

We loved our stay at the Refugee cabin! The property was well maintained, clean, and spacious. We loved the grounds, the atv trails were a hit for the adults and kids, and the accessibility to towns close by. Annie was responsive and quick to communicate when needed. Highly recommend!

I loved this cabin so much! Beautiful views and very secluded. Just what my husband and I were looking for. Very clean, comfy beds, bonfire pit with plenty of wood and hiking trails. Thank you Annie!

Amazing hidden gem

Clean and unique

We had a two night stay at this beautiful property. The home was clean and unique in design. Three story building with a wrap around deck on the top floor. It’s on a quiet area with an RV camp ground across the pond. Walk paths all around to explore and take adventures. It’s within 25 mins of bemidji and itasca state park. Both great places to explore. Overall I had a great time with my family and we got to explore a lot of northern Minnesota. Owner was great with communication and even called after our stay to check up and thanked us for the staying . Would love to come back in the summer season when weather is much nicer.
