My Family had 2 greta weeks at this vacation house in Hull. The house is old but very quaint, surrounded by a pond and the ocean across the street. We had a great time.

Charming old fashioned beach cottage

I cannot say enough good things about this property. It is located on lovely Straits Pond and ideally near Hull, Cohasset, and Hingham. The hosts thought of everything and more to make our stay delightful. We love history and nostalgia and this cottage had it all—the decor and simplicity reminiscent of days gone by when life was simpler. There is AC in the main living area and the bedrooms and box fans are everywhere. There are beach chairs and plenty of towels. The kitchen has everything that you need. The outdoor seating area is lovely and such a peaceful spot to appreciate the swans and other wildlife. We will rent this charming home again when our travels take us to Hull. Thanks so much to our gracious hosts.

Wonderful House with Character and History

Even with the owner’s accurate description, this house was still a lovely surprise. If you appreciate older homes, this is a perfect place. Everything we needed was there, exactly where we thought to look, and everything was comfortable. The owner and caretaker were also very available, helpful, and accommodating. The view from the backyard is beautiful and there was furnished outdoor spaces for all of us to hang out and enjoy. I would not hesitate to book this house again. Thank you sharing your house.

We enjoyed the hospitality and thoughtfulness of the host and concierge, leaving treats on the table and flowers in every room. Very steep staircase, as advertised, and very old house. Great location, lovely beaches, beautiful pond - we saw egrets, swans, sand pipers, seagulls, Canadian geese and herons. A fun vacation.

Lovely old beach house!

This is a charming old beach house with a beautiful patio and view out back. When I arrived there was music playing and Prosecco and cookies on the table waiting for me - such a nice welcome! I wanted a little staycation and this is exactly what I needed! Jeff and Kathy were responsive and there were so many little touches around the house that made my stay enjoyable. Thank you for letting me stay, I hope to be back next summer!

Short stay in Boston area

We had an awesome time at “That Old House”! Kathy was there to meet us when we arrived (as were some Prosecco and goodies!) and was so gracious. The house was very clean and had absolutely everything we needed, even air conditioning which they’d installed the day before we arrived! We had beautiful weather while we were there, so were thankful for the AC. The house was well stocked and although we chose to visit the local restaurants rather than cooking dinners at the house, we certainly could have - it also had cards and games that our family played at night. We spent three of our five days going into Boston to see the sights, but on the other days enjoyed exploring the Hull area which is gorgeous. There were three beaches we could walk to easily which was fantastic! One day the neighbors came back to the house next door with a massive 23 lb fish they’d caught locally out on their boat - they were very friendly and we took lots of pics with their catch. Jeff the owner of this property was extremely friendly and responsive through our messaging. The house is oId but very well kept, and has such a cool history! I would highly recommend this property to anyone and look forward to renting it again, should we be returning to the Boston area! Thank you Jeff and Kathy for your hospitality!

Perfect first trip up North!!

Everything about our trip was great! We enjoyed the weather it’s been upper 80s and 90s where we live so the 60s and 70s were amazing. We went to Boston twice and Salem once. We love the little beach across the street and waking up to the view of the pond out back has been so nice. I love coming back to the old beach house after a long day of sight seeing! The whole family really loves the house! Kathy has been great we really appreciated all the little extra touches like the waters by the beds and the fruit and snacks on the front table! If we ever make it up north again we will for sure be trying to book your place again!

Wedding Weekend in Hull

Jeff gave me very clear and informative information not only on his house, but about restaurants and things do do and see during our visit. I found that I over packed for this stay; in the past when I rented from others I’ve had to bring almost everything! The house was very comfortable and relaxing. His resident host, Kathy, was a true delight and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, leaving champagne, fruit and gourmet cookies to greet us as well as fresh flowers! I strongly recommend this rental for anyone looking to have a joyful, relaxing time.

Quintessential beach house

We really LOVED our stay at "that old house". Upon arrival, there was a beautiful plate of cookies, fresh fruit and prosecco waiting for us. There was also a huge arrangement of fresh flowers on the table as well as buds in vases, all around the house. This place was immaculately clean and very well-stocked with everything we needed. Formerly a wing of an old inn, it has some really cool history that is documented in a nicely written booklet in the home. The backyard had amazing views of Straits Pond with beautiful white swans and egrets. The front of the house had great ocean views, as the beach was just across the street. There was so much to do in the area and we had perfect weather. Our 10-year-old boys had fun collecting cool rocks, shells and other things on the beach. We explored the old Fort Revere a few miles away on Telegraph Hill. They also had fun surfing the waves and playing arcade games at Nantasket Beach (just a mile away). We had lunch and shopped at great places in Hingham, walked the coastal roads in Cohasset and hiked the trails at World's End (251-acre conservation landscape). We would definitely book this vacation home again.

Historic lake and seaside house

This is a VRBO gem, sitting on a salt pond on the backside, and ocean across the road from the front door. A graceful old dame, this house wears its years well and is lovingly restored, maintained, and well appointed. Everything we needed was there: dishes, cookware, coffeemaker; box fans for every room (good call, as the only A/C is what naturally blows across from the ocean to the lake). Bedding, linens, rooms all top quality. Fast internet, cable. Location is great: an easy jog or drive to Scituate's coastal mansions and Hull's long beach. Decent grocery stores nearby. High marks for family travel, with plenty of space, and very quiet. Would be perfect in any season. Attentive hosts welcomed us with a property info booklet, plates of cookies, and a big bowl of oranges. We can not imagine how this could be improved. Everything was perfect for us.

Great value! Highly recommended!

What a find! Our stay at This Old House, even at a time with heat and high humidity, was really enjoyable for our three generational vacation. Yes, the stairs are steep as described, but not a problem for our 70 year old Papa! The warm breezes through all the large, deep windows made for lovely sleeping on our comfortable beds, and amazingly we didn’t miss air conditioning! Neither did we miss the lack of a dishwasher! Having a huge washer/ dryer was really convenient and made for light luggage for our family packing. The house is perfectly situated with lovely views across the pond, access to a rocky beach for scavenging, and 2 minute drive to camp out on the expansive Hull Beach.This Old House is an immaculately kept home of yesteryear offering a truly calming and charming beach experience!
