Sandwood Cottage on WI River-Huge Weekly and Monthly Discounts!

Fully furnished vacation cottage, located on the lower Wisconsin Riverway. UNWIND by taking a short walk down our path to our private Wisconsin River shoreline. RELAX, have a seat and feel the calm of the river flowing while you enjoy a fire in the pit and take in the sunset. Pause by the pond fed by an artesian spring trickling over the rock ledges. Think deeply as you walk the labyrinth. Identify the species of birds in the sanctuary or catch a glimpse of eagles, white pelicans, geese, turtles, deer and much more. ENJOY the creation around you.

Originally, this cottage was an Army officer's barracks at Truax Field, Madison, WI during WWII. It was moved to this Wisconsin River location in the 1970s. A family lived here until it was renovated in 2006 as a vacation rental.

A perfect temporary home!

We had a great stay for a few weeks as we purchased a new home in the area. It was clean and cozy, and the view was beautiful. Highly recommend!

Great cabin

This little cabin provided the quiet and the stars that you don’t get in the city. The river was close to walk down and enjoy. Will stay here again!!

Cozy Comfort on the Wisconsin River

My partner, dog, and I had a wonderful stay! The cottage was comfortable and met our needs. The property is beautiful, and we loved the access to the river with our kayaks. Mazomonie and Sauk City are cute little towns to explore with some really good food! (Highly recommend Green Acres for a supper club experience and The Old Feed Mill for some cool ambience .)

Great weekend getaway!

We had an incredible 3 days at the cottage. Fishing on the river and evening campfires were thoroughly enjoyed by all. We will visit again!

Clean, beautiful setting

Travel nurse in Madison- easy access to healthcare facilities. Quiet location with beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife. Extremely clean and well kept.

Cabin on the River

The cabin is beautiful and cozy. Excellent location to explore the surrounding area, hike and play on the Wisconsin River. We can’t wait to come back!

Peaceful and cozy

Lovely locale, great for trips to Madison and Devil's Lake and the House on the Rock. Great private beach on the river and personal fire pit.

Fall Hunt

Great location for our hunting land and family. Cottage is clean and had all the things we needed. Owner was very easy to communicate with and let us have early check in. Would stay again.

Peace on the River, Comfort in the Cabin

The place was perfect for our gals get away. The cabin and property were perfect for relaxing and reconnecting. We enjoyed time down by the river during the day and at night with the fire (plenty of wood and chairs). We were excited to see a couple of eagles, turtles and even heard some crazy coyotes in the distance. The cabin seems very updated, nice size and comfortable furniture. We also enjoyed hiking, biking, breweries, winery, and a bit of shopping in the area. Thank-you!

Nice Retreat

We enjoyed are stay very much. The cottage is charming and clean. It's location on the lovely Wisconsin River makes it quite special. Morning and evening sunrise and sunset provide a peaceful way to start and end the day.

Terrific Getaway Spot

The unit is well kept and had pretty much everything we needed, sans food, on site when we arrived; we ended up way overpacking, thinking it would just be someplace to stay in. It also feels a lot larger than the stated square footage. The land it's on is beautiful and the nearby town has a great brewpub (Vintage) and supper club (Green Acres), and it's close to House on the Rock as well. I'd recommend staying there, but I kinda also want it free for the next time we have a long weekend planned.

Great place for a weekend getaway!

Place was clean & well stocked. Two grills (one gas, one charcoal) + fire pit w/ plenty of firewood. Easy river access for canoeing / exploring.

Beautiful Sunsets and a Relaxing Stay

Very nice, cozy cottage with a great view for sunsets on the Wisconsin River! Clean and had everything available we needed such as air conditioning, grill, and fire pit with plenty of wood! The location was perfect for day trips to 13 surrounding state parks and exploring Madison. My husband, our adult daughter and I had plenty of room. It was so nice to bring ‘Summer’ our yellow lab too! We enjoyed our time together at your Wisconsin Retreat! Thank you!

Wonderful cabin !!

This was an outstanding retreat! Much needed R&R. Very clean. AC works great nice and cool in cabin. Great beds comfy and cozy. Very close to sauk city. Cute stores and nice bar resturants. Very close less than 5 miles to Green Achers super club. Which serves great food. Only ate out once though , we had really everything we needed to grill out or make breakfast. side note. The coffee pot is a Kerig

Cozy Cottage

We really enjoyed our stay in the Sandwood Cottage. It's perfect for 2 people--very clean and comfortable and having access to the river overlook made it quite memorable. Our one complaint is that the listed price was a little misleading--after all the fees were added the cost increased quite a lot.

Wisconsin Wilderness Paradise

The cottage was very cute and clean, well equipped. Sitting on the patio enjoying the scenery, birds and nature every morning was fantastic. The river views and fire pit were spectacular. Travis (owner) was great to work with and very responsive. It was very hot during our stay and the A/C worked great. Only negative was the water level was low due to lack of rain this year which impeded some activities. This was one of the nicest VRBO rentals we have ever done. And our little dog had a great time!

Property Title Says It All: WI River Retreat

Small but functional house. Very clean. To the North and Northeast, Sauk City, Baraboo, and the Dells. To the West and Southwest, Spring Green, Taliesin, Governor Dodge. To the East, is Madison. Well situated to explore the Driftless Area of WI. Nice riverfront as well. Our extended weekend stay was very enjoyable.
