Bliss and Tranquility await in Dolphin Bay
Welcome to Casa Piedra in beautiful Dolphin Bay! We are on a private cove on Isla Cristobal and our home has authentic charm, absolute privacy, and the ability to be truly “off the grid.”
The bones of the home are made of volcanic rock and original Teak, all sourced from the property. The exterior of the property offers indoor and outdoor entertaining with hammocks and peaceful, seaside lounging. Casa Piedra is the perfect blend of the subdued and the exotic: you can unwind and unplug or get back to nature - our bay’s dolphins are outgoing and always a joy to watch from the cove (or up close and personal on one of our SUP boards)!
The exclusivity of Casa Piedra doesn’t stop at the hilltop residence and private waterfront cover; our guests are brought to and from the property by boat, an easy 30-minute ride into town whenever needed. Over the course of a 5+ nights stay, you will be offered one, complimentary, round-trip ride into town and back to stock up on provisions and groceries (additional trips may incur a fee). Lastly, we like to alert our guests that because Casa Piedra is located on a hill. There is a flight of stairs to enter and exit the property at all times.
Come Inside:
This home on its historic land has all of the modern amenities one can think of, while also remaining true to its natural roots, featuring a robust solar energy system, as well as rain catchment for filtered drinking water. To remain on par with the eco-conscious nature of Bocas, we’ve installed a reverse osmosis water filtration system, featuring 14 total filters and ultraviolet light to ensure clean and safe drinking water.
Built-out for vacationing, Casa Piedra features a 900 square-foot, screened-in veranda, alongside a gas grill, and a well-stocked kitchen. While the exterior lends itself to cool, bayside breezes, the interior carries that tropical vibe all the way through with live-edge Teak and Laurel wood paneling, responsibly harvested from the 200 acres beyond the home’s immediate premises. Casa Piedra is fully furnished and screened in, so windows can be left open for comfort without worry. The living space has broadband WiFi, television with the latest apps like Netflix, an XBOX gaming console, as well as plenty of DVDs and board games for a well-spent night-in.
Casa Piedra has three bedrooms: two queens and a full. All rooms are equipped with plenty of bath and beach towels, as well as fresh linens. The master bedroom has a private bathroom; the other bedrooms share a second bathroom.
The home’s most recent addition is our bodega, which is where the water tanks and solar batteries are housed. The property’s laundry facilities are also located in our bodega, which guests are welcome to use.
Around Town:
This waterfront property has two, private coves with very few neighbors, maximizing your privacy. You may meet Brian and Amy, property managers for Dolphin Bay Hideaway (the second highest ranked B&B in ALL of Central America!), or the indiginous Ngobe people who still reside on their land. We love our indiginous neighbors, and it’s especially incredible to take in a real slice of their life to see the “school bus” that passes the house every weekday morning and afternoon. The children paddle their cayucos (a canoe carved out of a single tree - the local’s typical transport), past Casa Piedra, and off to their one-room schoolhouse that sits nearby.
Being surrounded by miles of rainforest, we of course have our groundskeepers, Ocho and Arcenio. The have been known to welcome our guests on walks - long or short - around the property. Blazing trails with machetes in hand, you may meet some of our wild friends along the way: the three-toed sloth, Red Lord parrots, or the black howler monkey, among others.
If outdoor water exploration is more your speed, the home offers free, unlimited use of hobie boards, paddle boards, kayaks, and snorkeling gear, located at the boat dock - you can even paddle out early enough to watch the dolphins get their daily feeding! We are nestled close enough for hiking and trailblazing along the archipelago, as well. For guided tours, we are happy to charter a boat and captain for you to explore the nearby islands like Zappatilla or other local destinations including Star Fish Beach, the Bat Caves, Red Frog Beach, and Green Acres Chocolate Farm (Additional fees apply for guided tours).

We are based in northern California, but spend as much time as we can at our two homes in Bocas del Toro. This is our happy place and we love the thought of sharing it with you.
Por qué eligió esta propiedad
We fell in love with Casa Piedra right away. It is on a hill right at the waters edge in Dolphin Bay. The property is amazing with about a mile of water front and private coves on 200 acres of rainforest and 80 acres of cacao trees. We saw the potential of Casa Piedra and did a remodel of the original stone house (stones all gathered from the property), and now it is lined with teak from the property and fully screened in. We have been making amazing chocolate from the cacao trees. Lauren's dream is to have an animal sanctuary on the property one day and help re-introduce native species to the island.
