Our apartment lies on the 2nd floor of 3 floors on a typical cobbled street with an array of amenities within walking distance and overlooking a typical Portuguese cafe/restaurant. There s an abundance of cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, bars, shops, chemist, doctors, hospital, vets, hairdressers, beauty facilities, a daily market, entertainment all within walking distance. We will leave details of our favourite places to eat and drink, there s such a variety to suit all tastes and budgets, we are happy to advise. No smoking is allowed in the apartment although smokers can use the balcony.
There s 2 flights of stairs to a private entrance for you to relax and enjoy the privacy of our apartment.
We will welcome you with samples of local seasonal produce to enjoy. The nearest supermarket is minutes away for you to stock up of food, beer and wine,

Overview of the area

Tavira is a coastal city in the eastern Algarve fondly known as the Venice of the Algarve set on the meandering River Gilao. The 18th century moorish architecture surrounds cobbled streets connected by a roman bridge and other bridges along the river. There s a hill top castle ruins with attractive walled gardens and 37 churches which admirably contribute to its seductive charm. The central gardens is a great place to have a local ice cream and watch the turtles in the centre of the gardens and is surrounded by cafes, bars and restaurants, Portugal is the third safest country in the world and Tavira is one of the safest cities in Portugal. Being here feels like taking a pleasant and relaxing step back in time. All within walking distance!
Take a five minute walk over the bridge from our apartment to board the cheap, short and regular ferry ride to the Island of Tavira (1 Euro each way or you can take private water taxi). Tavira falls within the Parque Natural da Rio Formosa and on the way to the beach you can see some wonderful birds living on the nature reserve, during April to October you can admire the pink flamingos. The island has a lovely beach with clear waters and a number of bars and restaurants where you can sample local food particularly the fish caught from the sea that day. You can have a relaxing massage on the golden sands or enjoy local water sports. From here you can cross a small bridge and take the tourist train or walk 1km to reach Barrill beach where old fishermen houses have been converted to restaurants.
Local activities include too many to mention them all. There s Tuk tuk tours, a local tourist train around Tavira, dolphin watching, horse riding, municipal swimming pool, quad bike tours, cinemas, shops including some lovely local unique shops, a daily municipal market and a monthly market on the third Saturday of the month. You can rent a bike at the end of our street and during June to the end of September there s plenty of local festivals and events including live music all within walking distance. Nearby Cabanas Tavira and Santa Luzia are easily accessible by car or public transport or take the lovely train journey to the Spanish town of Aya Monte, just over the border about 20 km from here.
Being the Algarve there s plenty of golf in surrounding area s. The nearest course is Benamor Golf which is a 9 minute car or taxi ride. We can advise if you would like further information
