We booked two nights at this property. In the middle of the first night, we were awoken by a very loud scratching noise. We thought a racoon was in the cabin. The noise was from a rodent behind the shower enclosure. We were awoken two more time by this loud rodent noise scrambling behind the shower. We notified the hosts in the morning assuming that they would take care of the issue that day so we could have a peaceful second night. To our surprise, the hosts knew about the issue for over a week, had been trying to live capture the rodent to no avail, and had no intention of doing anything different to make the cabin habitable. The noise alone made staying a second night unacceptable not to mention the other potential risks. We packed up our stuff, made other lodging arrangements, which was difficult, expensive, and disrupted our travel plans, and requested a full refund of both nights. The hosts did refund the second night, but their minimizing the problem and their condescending attitude towards us was very disheartening. The hosts argued that this was in a wooded environment and that such situations are inherent and unavoidable. We disagree. The hosts are responsible for providing safe and peaceful environment. They could have resolved the issue before we arrived or at least informed us of the issue so that we could have made alternate arrangements in a timely manner. Our mistake was not recording the noise to document how loud and disturbing the problem was.
