Wine country cottage - The Gatehouse

Welcome to The Gatehouse, our family cottage since 1970 - that grew! It is a large 4 bedroom vintage/rustic cottage that offers three bedrooms on the upper floor, and the largest bedroom on the main floor. The living room and dining room features a cozy gas fireplace with 20 ft ceilings. Three wineries are within easy walking distance. Relax on the large deck facing a huge yard with a view of the lake in the distance. The public beach and harbour are a 10-15 minute walk and it is a short stroll to a country diner located in quaint Colchester Village, in Ontario Canada. There are designated bike paths on road side for those seeking exercise. We are a year-round cottage and invite you to stay in all seasons.

****COMING SOON IN 2024**** New kitchen and upstairs powder room. Stay tuned for updated pictures!!

April 2024 - kitchen remodel and powder room addition are now complete! Check out the pictures of our new kitchen, with all new floors, cupboards and appliances. The large fridge has an ice maker (made with filtered water). The microwave above the new range is also a range fan. The new coffee / bar features a filtered water tap for easy filling of coffee pots and drink pitchers. The mini fridge is perfect for all your cold drinks needs.
The new powder room upstairs is between the east and middle bedrooms.

The Gatehouse was a lovely cottage to stay at and we enjoyed it very much. Hosts were super responsive and there was plenty of space for two families. It was clean and had all the necessities needed for cooking, which is always appreciated! Beds were comfortable and we were thankful for the fans and air conditioning within the house. The added bonus was sitting under the stars on the deck watching the fireflies at night - magical!!! Thank you so much, Ian and Mary!

We had a great vacation. Voted by our family as one of the best places we have rented. We had everything we needed. Great beach and restaurants in walking distance.

Great place to stay for a large group, big living room and well stocked kitchen. Clean and exactly as expected. The detailed info sheet beforehand was useful, even to know what type of coffee makers!

Great place for old friends

We rented this property for a golf trip and for old friends to catch up and hang out. Great location. Everything you need to make your stay easy was included. Would recommend.

Great place for a family gathering!

We were in the area for a wedding and had some family members staying. This property was spacious inside and out. We were welcomed with special treats and a personal note. Fabulous hosts! I would definitely recommend and would stay again!

Second Summer in Colchester

Comfy place for 6 adults and 4 kids to spend time together. Close to many kid friendly things to do. The new kitchen is beautiful!

Gatehouse

The house was great. Renovations were done to the kitchen and an extra two piece bathroom since last year and both were fantastic. Beach and park near by were perfect for the kids ages.

Great location and perfect house for a group!

Located within walking distance of restaurants and bars and local store, very large lot with no immediate neighbours which was so peaceful and felt secluded! The house I had a personal cottage feel with some very nice modern updates! Highly recommend!!! Thank you to our hosts!!!!

Cozy, quiet, spacious, nostalgic, perfect

A nostalgic, homely residence, with spacious interior, several bedrooms, and local amenities. We stayed for five days in Nov and enjoyed our time here. We had 7 of us, and there was still room for more. The hosts were very accomodating and great to work with. Would recommend to anyone.

Room to stretch!

Great place. Almost too big to be considered a cottage! Deck is amazing. Lots of space outside as well. Well equipped. Close to the beach and restaurants... Would definitely recommend!

Great for the whole family

We had a great stay with three generations under the same roof. The children enjoyed the surprises left for them. It was very windy so kite flying was a big hit. The place was clean and comfortable. Thanks for sharing your place with us.

Great little getaway!

The cottage is exactly as pictured, many updates and some old cottage charm. It has all of the amenities you need - just bring soap and shampoo/conditioner.We had such a wonderful time on the treed property (lots of shade) and deck. The beach is a short walk or a fast drive. The hosts were fantastic and always responded quickly, but we barely needed to reach out as everything was handled so professionally and well. We would definitely stay again!

Little getaway with family

Everything here was great - the description of the property was bang on. The host Mary answered all my (many) questions and addressed my concerns. Plenty of linens, towels, dishes, etc., so we felt right at home. We brought some things of our own but they were not needed. We used the BBQ while we were there which was nice and we enjoyed a campfire on two nights. The grocery store isn't too far away which was great. We'd absolutely rent this place again.

Cousins Retreat

Quaint, spacious and oh so comfortable! Beautiful beds and neighborhood was exceptional. One concern….the odour of natural gas near the Bbq is constant. We left the cover off to disperse the gas. Should have that checked for a leak. Your gifts upon arrival were greatly appreciated and we all thank you! A wonderful experience we will do again!

This was a cozy place for me and my friends to stay! We loved the cleanliness and openness of both the inside and outside of the cottage. The owner, Mary, gave great to directions to the place. Unfortunately we couldn't get the fire going. It would have been helpful to have an axe to cut some of the firewood into kindling and some paper to help start the fire. We truly enjoyed our stay though and if the opportunity comes up again, we will be back!! Thank you.

An incredible long weekend stay

We had a great long weekend stay at the Wine country cottage! It fit our group, 6 adults, 4 kids (ages 3,5,6,7) perfectly and was better than the pics. I think the add listing said that it's a 1.5 bath, which worried us, but there's actually 2 full and 1 half which we were happy to discover! The yard was perfect for the kids to run around and we were walking distance to restaurants and 2 wineries. Side note: Stay away from CREW, rude staff. North 42 Degrees had a great outdoor area for the kids to run around and occupy themselves, staff was incredible and wine was tasty. Mary was a super responsive host. Our group is already talking about booking again!
