Hale Nana Kohola (Whale Watch House) Located in the heart of Puako, offers a tropical retreat that showcases the best of Hawaii and is perfect for a romantic getaway or a family vacation. Escape to the sunny Kohala Coast on the Island of Hawaii. Hawaii's perfect year-round weather allows for your endless summer. Puako is one of the sunniest spots in all Hawaii. This tropical paradise meets the blue Pacific ocean. Hale Nana Kohola frames Haleakala, Maui's highest peak directly from the gorgeous lanais across the reflective HEATED infinity swimming pool.
Hale Nana Kohola is located on one of the most unique spots in all of Hawaii!! Puako is a quiet cul-de-sac street about 3 miles long. Puako is only one of two beachfront communities on a not a through street in all of Hawaii. Puako Beach has an old Hawaiian ambiance. Our entire community is a tropical paradise with only one access. There is only a handful of true beachfront vacation rentals in Puako Beach and Hale Nana Kohola ( the whale watch house) is one of the few.
Swim in the 360° infinity edge heated pool while overlooking the gorgeous lava and coral reef a few feet away.
We offer kayaking, snorkeling and stand-up paddling just steps from the lanai. All of the equipment is provided when you stay at our luxury vacation home!
You feel thoroughly at home, and completely at your best with every imaginable amenity. Designed to inspire, its beauty and connects you with the surrounding environment.
'Hale Nana Kohola' (the Whale watch House) is over 7000 sq ft under roof of architectural masterpiece on the beach in beautiful Puako. Several lanais to lounge around on when you're not at the beach. Kayaking and snorkeling only steps away in pristine clear coral reefs where Humpback whales come to breed.
Our home offers 2 master suites, 2 guest bedrooms with their own baths, a media room with a bath, an open living, dining and gourmet kitchen area with cathedral ceilings that opens to a huge covered lanai adjacent to the 46' 360 degree infinity pool. Each bedroom, the living and media room, each have a large flat screen TV complete with an advanced audio system. Great care was taken with the landscape, creating a beautiful palm tree oasis on the ocean side. This gorgeously designed home is topped off with a 3rd story 'whale watch' retreat that offers 360 degree view. New mattresses and luxurious bedding in all master and guest bedrooms (Oct 2023).
The swimming pool has direct access from the first floor. For children that are not water safe it is recommended that they wear a life vest when on the lanais in the vicinity of the pool.
Hale Nana Kohola has hosted numerous birthday, anniversary and other family celebrations for the past 10 years. Our house is constantly being upgraded and is in pristine condition. The Hawaiian Polynesian design has a couple of thousand square feet of lanais for amazing indoor and outdoor living.

Our media room is equipped with luxury chairs and a full bath for ‘overflow’ guests. There is also a Queen Murphy bed in the media room, which converts to the fifth bedroom.
Great care has been taken with the landscape of our beach house vacation rental, creating a beautiful Hawaiian oasis including a hammock stretched between two palms ocean side. This home is one of the few in Puako with a sandy beach right in front complete with the protected ‘lava reef pools’ for your little ones. The ancient Hawaiians have named one of the pools in front of Hale Nana Kohola the “Queens Bath”.
This gorgeously designed luxury vacation rental home is topped off with a 3rd story “whale watch” retreat that offers 360-degree views across the land and ocean from the sunrise over Mauna Kea to the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. One of the rituals at Hale Nana Kohola is watching the sunset from the chairs on the beach. And amazing sunsets they are!
Enjoy the coral reefs where Humpback whales come to breed and give birth, from December to April. The sea turtles reside year round.

Our family of 7 had a superb week celebrating my 70th birthday and just being together. This home is spectacular! The home itself is perfect, the location is ideal, and the natural beauty is everywhere you look. We are already planning our return visit in 2 years for another milestone birthday. Nathalie was a wonderful host and source for every question we had, and with plenty of ideas to help make our stay so wonderful. Thank you for sharing this remarkable home with us. We made so many happy memories and look forward to our future return.

Unbeatable views and comfort! All the convenience of home but in a breathtakingly beautiful seaside retreat. Nathalie, our host, was easily accessible and very helpful. Would highly recommend!!

The house was beautiful and perfect for our family. Loved the community spaces but separateness of the bedrooms. LOVED the beach, outdoor eating area and hammock. Also loved the location. Natalie was immediately available for anything we needed. Truly remarkable vacation spot.

This was a beautiful home & was a great size for our family of 9. We loved the pool & easy access to the beach. We saw lots of sea turtles every day.Wonderful week of family time on a beautiful island

Great home! Didn’t want to leave :-)
My wife and I stayed for a week and really loved the property. Having both the pool and direct beach access was amazing and something we took advantage of daily. We will be returning.

Great home and location
This home is beautiful, spacious, incredibly well equipped, location right on the ocean, whales sited everyday, gorgeous sunsets. Not sure the home could be better.

Amazing Property and Amazing Property Manager!!!
The property is absolutely amazing between the house, the pool and the beach! Amazing views and walking the beach you always experience wildlife (e.g. turtles!!!). Nathalie the Property Manager was amazing in helping us not just with the house but also helped us build our agenda of activities, book excursions and stock the house - Nathalie rocks! Highly recommend this amazing property for your stay on the Big Island!

Perfect Thanksgiving Vacation
Our entire family enjoyed the house, pool, beach and yard. Lots of lounging space and water toys to entertain young and old. The large and well equipped kitchen made cooking easy and family friendly. We would definitely like to come back.

Great time
The entire family had an awesome time. Location was amazing. Being able to walk out to your own beach ws the best. It iwas a great spot to have out family photos done. We will be back.

A beautiful , unique property
A very comfortable home in a unique and beautiful spot . Great pool , great access to the ocean , perfect for young children . The home occupies a spot near the best beaches and several major resorts , but on a quiet street . The best of both worlds . We loved our stay .

Truly and amazing place
The property was just amazing. It exceeded expectations. The privacy of the property was perfect for our family of 10. Allowed for us to swim whenever we wanted, enjoy the sunsets from the beach, and lots of family dinners at the outdoor dining area. Highly recommend

Winter Escape
I have stayed here years ago and it was always a wonderful experience. The 2wks went by in a flash. The only time we ventured out was to play golf and we also had an epic day of fishing. We love the fact that you never have to leave once you visit the grocery store. The owners Michelle and Gordan were wonderful.

Perfect vacation
Property was as described. Spacious. Beautiful. Great location - out of the busy tourist area, but conveniently located. Stocked with water toys and kitchen supplies. Nathalie the manager was responsive and incredibly helpful.

Family retreat in paradise
Pictures do not do this stunning house and location justice. The Jenny House does not disappoint. This is my 3rd visit and I really hope it won’t be the last. To arrive is to instantly relax and feel the Aloha spirit move you. Thanks for a truly restorative and fun filled week.

Still fantastic with new owners
This was our fourth visit to the house and first time with the new owners. We were glad to see all the old charms remain and everything has been kept in good condition. The yard felt more open and spacious with some of the foliage trimmed back, so our boys were able to enjoy a lot of soccer and frisbee.
The well-stocked kitchen is huge and was able to accommodate all our cooking.
We always talk about taking excursions on the Big Island, but once we're there, the house is so wonderful, we never want to leave.

Wow!
The house is spectacular. Ron has thought of everything. Fantastic location on a charming little road a couple of miles and sandwiched between two large resort type areas. We had 2 families with 5 kids total and everyone loved everything about the place. Pool area is gorgeous. Beach is a blast. Beds are super nice. Kitchen is huge. I'm not sure what more to say other than book this house and you will be a very happy person. Thanks Ron! We will be back!

Nice Property
Some distance from the main city and shopping. The beach was somewhat rocky with not a very good place to swim. The bed in the master bedroom needs to be replaced. The bed slops down to a point where you almost fall off. Also, I woke up was a sore back every morning. The house is perfect for a large family, particularly with children.

The master bed is not very old so we're very surprised and concerned about the sloping you describe. We will definitely check it out and of course replace it if necessary! The area is serene, peaceful, relaxing, and enjoyable. Sea turtles are commonly seen and whale season is extraordinary! The community is friendly and close knit, with deep respect for Puako. We're very fortunate to be able to share the treasured experience of being here with others.

No need to make arrangements and rent kayaks, stand up paddle boards, swimming gear, beach chairs, and other nominally not supplied amenities. Hale Nana Kohola supplies this necessary equipment for your pleasure during your stay. There are also many amenities in the house such as bicycle cruisers and of course high-speed Wi-Fi. Watch some free movies and enjoy the Sonos sound system to play your favorite music too . Our swimming pool is a heated infinity pool which has direct views of the ocean. There is also an elliptical machine and a few free weights located on the upper floor so you can workout with an incredible ocean view!
