Yellowstone Park - 1/2 Mile-Silver Gate

Wolves, bear, moose and elk abound in the Silver Gate/Cooke City part of Yellowstone and the Beartooth Mountains. There are beautiful mountain views from the back deck, and front windows. Some of the best native trout fishing in the world is minutes from the house. These include the Yellowstone River, Lamar River, Slough Creek, Soda Butte Creek, and the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone. This is a summer rental only!
A great family day can be spent touring the famous features of Yellowstone or taking a day trip to Cody, WY to see the Wild Bill Cody Museum, a genuine rodeo nightly, a mock gun fight at the original Irma Hotel, good food, and many shops including the Sierra Outlet. Cooke City is 3 miles away for shopping, restaurants, ATV rentals and much more. But Silver Gate has quite a few sweet places too. The best time for animal watching is June and early July, while the best time for fishing is mid July through September. Hiking is fabulous anytime.

The house is clean, spacious and comfortable, with a large Great Room and fireplace, leather furniture, big kitchen with new black range top cooking surface and full size laundry with half bath on first floor. Second floor has two very large bedrooms with new carpet: One has two double beds and one single bed and the other has a queen bed and a single. This arrangement will sleep a family of six or 5 singles. Also, a nice full bathroom upstairs.

Outside there is a rear deck with gorgeous mountain views so close you feel like you can reach out and touch them. There is a grill and patio furniture for outdoor dining. There is also a very small stream in the yard which holds a few small native Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout. Very private yard.

Marcia’s cabin was perfect for our needs. It’s near our favorite areas of the park as well as the Beartooth and Chief Joseph Highways. The cabin is well equipped and comfortable. Marcia is a fabulous host. She lives next door, but you’d never know it. She’s available to answer any questions you may have. In fact, we loved talking to her! She is a wealth of knowledge about fishing in the park. We hope to return some day!

Pros: close to NE entrance, quiet town, comfortable, cozy clean kitchen, nice washer & dryer, nice deck, convenient use of garage, nice fireplace with good pine wood, beds were made and everything appeared clean and neat.Cons: fridge rang an alarm for three days woke us up all night, blowdryer had a 6” cord impossible to use, “shampoo” was half used old hotel shampoos, “queen” bed was terribly uncomfortable, more in town than the listing leads to believe, no access to a creek as in listing, shower ceiling peeling off and caulking is in bad shape, stairs very steep.

I am sorry this renter found issues which I do not think are the owners responsibility. This is a house rental, not a motel room. The shampoo there was left by a former renter. I do not supply shampoo and personal products, only soap. The hair dryer does not have a 6" cord. It is one of the retractable cords with a button that says retract, thereby implying it can be pulled out. The queen bed is firm, most people like firm. We have 4 other beds that were not in use. maybe another one would have suited better. There is always a manager on the property and each renter has their phone number and that of the owner. If any issue like the ringing alarm on the frig happens a phone call to either number would have solved the issue.

This felt like a home away from home. It was so cozy and the bed was so comfortable! I haven't slept that well in a long time. We even had a fireplace for those chilly nights! The location was wonderful, for quick access to the park and Lamar Valley. Silver Gate is such a cute little town. Last but not least...the host! Marcia is so welcoming and has spent 34 summers in Silver Gate/Yellowstone. She has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the park, great fishing spots and the history of the area. She has so many great stories to share. She made our stay even more special! We can't wait to go back!

This cabin is wonderfully close to the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone which makes it so quick to get to the Northern part of the park. The cabin is charming, delightful and has a very vintage feeling and look. I loved the log walls and the artwork on the walls. The host, Marcia is very quick to respond and provided answers to all questions I had almost immediately. She is an established author and gifted us with one of her books on Yellowstone, which was very appreciated. There is a resident caretaker if the host isn't there to assist with anything you may need. They live on site in a separate house, but you would never know anyone was there until you need something and service is immediate. We enjoyed the house and our stay very much and would indeed return to this cabin in the future. If there is one recommendation I would make it would be to update the listing on the VRBO website. As it reads now, it states 1 car garage is available, but the host does keep a car in there, so it really wasn't available for us to use, It was one of the reasons we did select this cabin as we do prefer to keep our rental cars in garages. However, it is only a suggestion to update the listing to account for lack of a garage. It didn't deter from the home nor would it impact any future bookings, it's a wonderful home in a great location. Thank you Marcia for everything.

Great Location to Yellowstone Park

Place was comfortable for a family of five. The house was well stocked with everything you need to cook and do laundry. Marcia welcomed us on our late evening arrival.

Amazing Location!

If you want to experience the wildlife in and around Yellowstone National Park this is the place to stay! My family and I loved staying so near the NE entrance and bringing able to go through Lamar Valley early in the morning and late in the evenings. The home has everything you could need in a vacation rental plus more!

Highly Recommend!

This cabin is just lovely! It is in a beautiful location and allowed easy access to Yellowstone. The owner is so sweet and made communication easy. My family highly recommends this cabin if you are looking to experience nature! Be aware that drive time to near by towns is long.

Marcia was a great hostess - very communicative, helpful, and responsive. The cabin is comfortable and spacious. We had less than 5 minute access to the northeast entrance of Yellowstone national park and were able to drive through the Lamar valley early every morning and see tons of wildlife, including bison, foxes, coyotes, grouse, and grizzly bears. Awesome trip of a lifetime!

Nice comfortable mountain cabin

Wonderful cozy home where you can stretch out and enjoy the amazing views of Silver Gate. Easy access to the park and surrounded by an assortment of unique shops. The neighbors are top notch and the owners of the property are wonderful to work with. We will be staying here again!

Awesome location

My family and I loved staying here. It was so close to Lamar valley and other must do stuff in Yellowstone. Large enough space for my kids to play around and get some energy out. Great owner and very knowledgeable of the area and she makes you feel at home.

Great location for NE section of Yellowstone BUT NO TV

It was a nice house, the stairs are quite steep to get to the bedrooms upstairs be aware there is no TV at all internet is good so you can stream on your laptop The onsite owner is very nice and helpful Quite a few things to do outside of Yellowstone or just spend the day relaxing nice Gas grill enjoyed the week

Thank you Linda, Sorry about no TV. In 30 years if renting we never had a complaint. Being 1/2 from YNP, others couldn't wait to leave and enjoy the Park. I am glad you enjoyed the remaining virtues of our house and our lovely scenic mountains.

Perfect home base for NE Yellowstone adventures

This home in Silver Gate was a perfect base for our family to explore Yellowstone from the Northeast entrance. Marcia is a very gracious host & met us at check in to go over the home & how everything worked. She made great recommendations on things to do both inside & outside the park. It was an amazing trip that our family will not forget. We loved it!!

Silver Gate house

Great house and a great location. Had all the things needed for our stay. Had a great time watching Bighorn sheep on the mountain arcoss the street from the house. Make sure to get your morning coffee and afternoon ice cream at "Stop the car trading post"

Wonderful property

This property sits right in the small town of Silvergate just outside the entrance to the park. It was a perfect rental if you want to enjoy beautiful surroundings in Montana and Yellowstone park. Marcia, the owner/host could not be friendlier and more knowledgeable about the area. She was fantastic and everyone in the area knows her. The home was comfortable and welcoming. I would definitely look to rent this property the next time we visit this area!!!

FANTASTIC PLACE TO STAY

I cannot say enough about this rental. Marcia was great to deal with; communication was responsive and informative. The house itself is perfect for those visiting Yellowstone Nat.'al park, esp.if you want to be close to the wildlife rich Lamar Valley. Marcia was always helpful as to things to do, places to eat, and always notified us of local wildlife sightings. If you get a chance and want a nice place to stay.....rent this house!

Lamar valley home base

Great home in a super cool small Montana town. Great home base for exploring Yellowstone. I picked this area for its close proximity to Lamar Valley. If your wanting to experience the areas mega fauna this is the place. Lamar valley is beyond words . Spend some time in this area, you will not be disappointed.

Perfect cabin one mile from NE Yellowstone entrance

My husband and I stayed here for a week while we visited Yellowstone, and had a truly wonderful experience! The cabin is beautiful, spacious, and immaculately clean. Fully stocked with everything you could need. The owner, Marcia, is a delightful person who goes out of her way to make sure the stay is special. Silver Gate is a charming little community, and very quiet at night. The cabin is just 20 min from Lamar Valley where we saw all sorts of wildlife. We enjoyed every minute of our stay, and hope to return next year.

Perfect Location for Exploring the Lamar Valley

Very comfortable, had everything I needed and more to enjoy my stay. Bed was comfortable, nice big fridge if I wanted to do cooking, roomy and great access to both the park and any needs in the small town. Marcia was a fabulous host, showed me everything I would need to know, and helped build a fire in the wood burning stove when the power went out due to weather. Outage didn't last long, but had everything I needed to get through it. Marcia is a fabulous host, as sweet as can be! Would definitely stay again!

My winter home is in VA, but Silver Gate/Cooke City has been my summer home for over 30 years. I will be glad to answer all your questions about nearly everything in the NW Yellowstone area; from where to go for wildlife viewing, where to fish, point you to horseback riding, and also info about Cody's museum and nightly rodeo.
Personally, I am a retired teacher and a life member of Trout Unlimited, and have received numerous awards from that organization. I currently write land and wildlife conservation articles, especially fly fishing and water conservation.

We are 20 minutes from the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone which showcases wolves, grizzly bears elk, deer, and many others depending on your interests and time of year and time of day to view them. This area is considered the best animal viewing in the Park often called the Serengeti of N. America.

Hiking in our area can be a wonderful family hike to Trout Lake which is than a mile long and takes you to a large lake with a walking trail around it, and besides getting to see huge trout there are also otters in the area as well.

The Cooke City/Silver Gate community is small and very friendly. We have a local non-Denominational Christian Church nearby, an ice cream/ gift shop, a small store that rents spotting scopes, and a family friendly Bar which closes at 10pm.

Our house is an insulated year-round home, but we are only a summer rental. June and September can have chilly nights and the house is warm and cozy no matter the weather. It also has been recently renovated with new laminate in the downstairs Great Room, and new upstairs carpet. Also, a new modern range top and full size washer and dryer. We are one of the closest residences to Yellowstone National Park in any of the gateway communities. In two minutes you can be at the NE gate. The Lamar Valley is 20 minutes and has the best wildlife viewing in the Park for wolves, bears, and bison. We also have nearby hikes into the Beartooth mountains, and local walks to waterfalls and the Absaroka Wilderness Area are just around the corner.
