Located in the Kaloli Point sun belt on the East side of the Big Island of Hawai, House of Paddles is within earshot of the Pacific Ocean’s crashing waves. This private tropical oasis is a two-minute walk from the spectacular Puna coastline to watch sea turtles and whales (when in season)!

Please Note: This is a quiet residential neighborhood and local ordinances prohibit gatherings at licensed short term rental properties. Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am daily. Occupancy is set to 7 guests only. Please Respect Your Neighbors!

Stunning custom-built in 2005, House of Paddles features an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings. Throughout the home are exotic local hardwoods and Mexican tile. The fully equipped kitchen features custom Native Koa hardwood and Mango cabinets and a six burner gas stove with griddle. French doors open the Grand Room to a private tropical resort-style pool area with a propane grill. Observe beautiful sunrises and magical stargazing from the pool area.

There are three bedrooms and one additional sleeping area. The private Orchid Suite is separate from the main house and boasts an ensuite bathroom with private lava rock outdoor shower. Two more bedrooms are in the main part of the house. Bedroom 2 shares a full bathroom across the hall and Bedroom 3 has an ensuite bathroom. The final sleeping area is a comfortable queen size bed in our large laundry room.

House of Paddles is conveniently located 25 minutes from Hilo International Airport. Only 30 minutes to many must see attractions including Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, snorkeling beaches in Hilo, the newly renovated Poho’iki Beach Park in Kalapana and many natural wonders. Just 15 minutes to quaint Pahoa Town for fine dining, art boutiques and groceries. Only 8 minutes to Maku’u Farmer’s Market on Sundays.

Absolutely loved this property. The home was perfect for our family, plenty of room and a nice open layout. So much character and charm, really made our trip memorable. The location is great, we were able to walk out to the lookout and watch the sunrise in the morning!

Fantastic Stay!

The home was lovely! The only issue we had was the refrigerator was not keeping our food as cold as it should have and a few of our food spoiled. And the stove top didn’t work but we just ended up grilling a lot. Communication was easy and the hosts were very responsive. Overall , we had a pleasant stay. FYI- house does get warm during the day . Evenings were cooler with all the windows open to enjoy the breezes.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was beautiful and fit our family of 5 great (kids ages 11, 11, 13). The separate bedroom suite would be great for another couple. The pool was clean and the outdoor space was perfect for morning coffee. The kitchen was stocked with appropriate pans, etc. needed to make meals. The neighborhood was quiet and beds were comfortable. This was a great location for day trips into Hilo and VNP. I would recommend this home to others and would stay here again.

Beautiful house, great pool, comfortable beds, great kitchen, there is a lot of left over condiments and seasonings to use. Love the extra long dining table. Google Maps was slightly off when giving directions to the house so make sure to double check the house number. Was a rainy week which made the cement outside very slippery, one of our Ohana fell and was bruised pretty bad. Having a remote for the gate was so nice and convenient! If I would recommend something; change out the rattan window and glass door covers with something else, you can see right through them at night which provided zero privacy for the bedrooms and the bathrooms which we discovered in a very embarrassing way.

Clean and spacious

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The House of Paddles was a great place for our family of 5 including 3 teens. We enjoyed the pool and had plenty of space to spread out, too. It was nice to have a kitchen and grill. The house was clean and it was easy to get in touch with someone if we needed anything, which we didn't. The layout is super cool and open to the outside. It is in a gorgeous setting! If you do stay here, know that this is not the location for a "beach" vacation. This house is 30-60+ minutes from everything (groceries, beaches, volcano park, shopping, etc.). We didn't realize this because looking at the map the house is close to the ocean. However, the nearest beach is a short drive (or walk), then a mile or so hike through thick bushes, mud, plants and bugs. This side of the island is the rainy side, getting more rain annually than Seattle, WA. Luckily for us it only rained at night and on one day. That being said, we probably learned and saw more of Hawaii than we would have somewhere else. We did A LOT of driving and visited Carlsmith Beach, Onekahakaha Beach, Hilo town, Big Island Candy shop (cookies), Punulu'u black sand beach, Volcano National Park (Kilawea/lava tube/rainforest), Naalehu (bakery!), Ka'u Coffee Mill, Mauna Loa macadamia farm, Krishna cow cuddling, Lavaloha cacao farm, Rainbow Falls ($40 to park!)/boiling pots and Mokupapapa Discovery Center (free). We like eating traditional food at Coconut Grill and loved Pineapple's Restaurant in Hilo. Be aware the the coqui frogs are loud at night and with the windows open and fans on can still be heard. It is hot without air conditioning and was hard to sleep on some nights.

Loved our stay at this property! Perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood, 20 minutes from downtown Hilo & one block from the breathtaking ocean front! The property was super spacious & comfortable, allowing a lot of privacy for each room, while still feeling cozy! We adored the outside lava rock shower! I would plan stay again & highly recommend the property!

We love this house! We stayed here 13 years ago and found it to be almost exactly the same!

Clean, well stocked with beach towels and cooking utensils. The pool is a blast and the layout of the home is perfect for a family with school age or older kids. The host was great and responded promptly when we had a question. Would stay here again!

BBQ is disgustingly unusable. Bugs in window sills. No screens on doors to pool. Property very unkept and run down. Very disappointed. I believe we deserve a refund for unusable BBQ grill. Would not rent if we had known the grill was in such bad shape.

Beautiful home!

Very beautiful wood used through the home. The pool was wonderful to cool off in after a day exploring the Hilo side of the island. Loved the ohana bedroom!

Great Stay!

We only spent 3 nights here, but it was fabulous! The house was very clean and had everything we needed. We loved having a private pool and opening up the doors and windows to enjoy the breeze and all of the sounds at night! Thank you again!

Great place to stay would definitely stay again

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Was great and clostridium to family that lives here definitely if I go with family again!
