While the property was mostly clean and we enjoyed our stay, we felt that the description of the sleeping arrangements was a bit misleading. It states that it can comfortably accommodate 7 adults. However, we struggled to comfortably sleep 6 of us. The upstairs loft was uncomfortably hot throughout our stay, so we were unable to use that space for sleeping. The futon really should not be counted as a “twin” bed as it is incredible small and uncomfortable for an adult. 2 of our adults had to sleep on the couches and one had to build a pillow bed on the floor of the living room due to the uncomfortable temperature upstairs. We would highly recommend a portable AC unit in the loft space to help resolve this issue. Some of the kitchen drawers were unusable and contained mouse droppings which was bothersome. The kitchen and eating area were a highlight for us. We enjoyed our time together in this large space. We spent most of our time at the beach and appreciated how conveniently located the property was. Ethan was easy to communicate with us and he graciously accommodated our early check in request.

Quiet and Convenient

The location of the property was close enough to all the things to do in the area and tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. My friend and I appreciated the communication with the owner and the ease of check-in and check-out. There is an apple tree in the front yard so we had to make sure to not bother the bees feasting on fallen apples. Otherwise, a pleasant stay!

Harbor House Haven

My family and I were attending a wedding in St Joseph’s and Ethan’s home was a perfect spot to stay. The pictures of the home are accurate, the beds comfy, we didn’t do any cooking but everything was there for that if needed. Ethan was easily reachable when my mother in law was having trouble with the code and she got in within minutes of me reaching Ethan. We enjoyed our two night stay immensely and would stay here again. Thank you Nathan for everything! Greg!

Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience, especially given the circumstances. I booked this home for the night before my wedding with my bridesmaids and our mothers, and the night of my wedding with my husband. The host knew from the beginning that this stay was for my wedding.Upon arrival, the entire house had a very strong animal urine-like odor. Unfortunately, odors cannot be captured in pictures or videos, but the smell was overwhelming. When I mentioned it to the host, I was told they allow animals and that they were dealing with a mold/mildew issue. It did not smell like mold or mildew, but regardless, that is not something I would expect or feel comfortable staying around.The A/C was also inadequate, and the thermostat did not appear to be reading correctly or functioning properly. I was unable to adjust the temperature. Upon further inspection, I found a significant amount of rodent droppings inside multiple kitchen cabinets—not just a few pieces, but a substantial amount.I immediately contacted the host, but given the odor, heat, and cleanliness concerns, I did not feel comfortable staying there, especially with my wedding dress and belongings. I spent most of the night on the phone with Vrbo trying to secure alternative accommodations. They eventually placed me in a hotel for only one night.Nearly a month later, I am still fighting for a full refund. For nearly 1,400, I expected a clean, comfortable, and sanitary home. Great location, sandy floors/rugs

Great location minutes away from several local beaches and the town of St. Joseph. The house is renovated, except for the bathroom. When we arrived at the house, we noticed a pink stains around the bathtub and sand on the floors and and rugs. Our party had 2 infants and we didn't feel comfortable having them crawl on the floors. The owner did have a child gate and high chair available for use, which was helpful. Check-in and check-out were straightforward. Owner was accessible during our stay.

Worked for us

The house was as described. The owner was very fast to respond. But the house was not as clean as it should’ve been. We tried to clean up ourselves but we either didn’t have the supplies available or they were dirty, like the broom was covered in hair and the vacuum was dirty. The beds and linens appeared to be clean. Under tables and couch cushions was gross. I booked the stay for my family of eight, we didn’t have enough towels or hand towels and the own promptly had some delivered. The landscaping was beautiful and we enjoyed the large dining table and ping pong. We were a short drive to Silver Beach, shops, and restaurants. We’d probably book again if the house had been cleaner.

Not satisfied; disappointed

Upon entering the house, we noticed a strong cigarette smell throughout the house. We bought a candle to make it bearable. The cleanliness of the house was the biggest concern. There were fruit flies, ants and spiders throughout the house, especially the kitchen. It’s one thing if there’s a couple bugs but we’re talking at least 50 fruit flies and a kitchen countertop full of ants upon arrival. When we arrived the temperature was 82 on the first floor and pushing 100 on the second floor. The air conditioning was on but the loft bedroom upstairs was super hot. It took 8+ hours to cool it while freezing the family sleeping on the lower level. The beds were advertised as all KING-SIZED, but only ONE BED was a king. What we paid was not anywhere near commensurate with our experience ,we are requesting a credit to make it right.

Rest assured I am discussing your issues with our cleaners to make sure they rectify the issues you noticed. I also updated the listing to fix any inaccuracies. Unfortunately you caught us on an unusually warm week. When the house is empty the thermostat adjusts to save energy which occurred prior to your arrival. I have changed that setting going forward.

This property is no where near any public beach access as it appears in the listing. It is in need of many repairs, including a cleaning of the septic system. The upstairs bedroom was warm on a mild day. The wooden walkway out front and the back deck are rotten in parts. The decor is cute and beachy.

Nice Weekend Away

We came here for New Years with friends to get out of Chicago. The place was just as described. The big backyard was great for our dog to run around. Ethan was very communicative and was helpful before and during our trip!

Great place to stay

My whole family had a great experience staying here. The house was nice and clean and we enjoyed the backyard space, it was good for the kids. The location was perfect, just a few minute drive from silver beach.
