Updated lake cottage right on Damariscotta Lake.

Little Thumb sits on the water's edge on Damariscotta Lake under pine and oak trees. Blueberry bushes line the shore. The cottage is surrounded by water on three sides and looks south down the long part of the lake. The cove to the east is a favorite feeding place for heron, osprey, and bald eagles. Dangle your feet off our private dock, and watch ducks paddle by. Let the loons lull you to sleep.

We offer weekly rentals during the summer. We offer longer and shorter stays in the shoulder seasons. We have wi-fi suitable for working away. This is a seasonal cabin and is not available during the winter months.

The kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms have been totally remodeled. The kitchen has a gas stove, microwave, refrigerator, and center island. The bathroom has a washer and dryer. The living room has a propane stove and full views of the lake. There are two bedrooms with blankets, pillows, and quilts provided. Sheets and bath towels are standard. Please bring your own swim towels.

We have a Webber charcoal grill and grill tools. We have a stone fire pit and grate.

The cabin was originally built on an island but the island is now attached by a causeway. There are only about 10 houses and it feels very private.

Walk or bike along the dirt roads. Kayak or canoe from the dock. Fish in the cove. Or just relax and enjoy the views.

Swim right off our dock. We also have an additional swim float which sets a little deeper. The lake water level does vary but gets deeper beyond the cottage.

We keep two kayaks at the cottage, a 14' Necky Manitou and a 13.5' Perception Catalina, plus two paddles and life vests. You may bring your own kayaks too. Plus you can rent kayaks, canoes, or paddle boards and have them delivered. Please let the life vests drip outside before bringing them inside.

If you wish to rent additional kayaks or a canoe you can make arrangements with MidCoast Kayak in Damariscotta. They will deliver and pick up right from the cottage.

There is a sand beach at Damariscotta Lake State Park, 10 minutes from the cottage.

There is a sand beach and ocean swimming at Pemaquid Beach in New Harbor, about a 1/2 hr from the cottage.

We have a private well so you do not need to bring bottled water to drink or cook with.

Sheet sizes: We have one queen-sized bed and two twins beds.

If you are looking for relaxing, laid back, comfy cottage, look no further. Just returned from a perfect week here. Everything we needed was right there. The host is very easy to communicate with, check in was easy. The decor is very eclectic. It's a mixture of old and new. Beds were comfortable, kitchen stocked with all that you need, beautiful view. A peaceful quiet spot to go and. unwind. We will be back.

This is a beautiful spot to rest and relax. The lake is beautiful and quiet. The cottage is nicely decorated, comfortable and has great views of the lake. We kayaked and swam, listened to and watch the loons, and had a lovely chat with Natalie when she came to water. Her gardens. Highly recommended!

This property is beautiful and tranquil! The house space was just what we need for 2 adults, cozy area overlooking the lake was my fav reading spot, other than being on the dock. Kayaking the lake was perfect, we saw osprey catching fish, baby geese, and loons! It was a perfect place to kick back and relax with plenty of areas nearby to go and explore.

Comfortable, classic lakeside cottage. The camp has been restored with new kitchen counters and most of the windows throughout. Furnishings and beds are comfortable. Supplies were adequate though the owner requests that renters re-supply what they use (reasonable request); so a few things were a little scarce (I.e. hand soap). Lakeside dock is very nice and a swim-up float further out in the lake. Provided kayaks are a nice bonus with the camp in a somewhat protective cove and a marshy area to explore.Departure procedures request that renters strip beds and wash sheets and linens, leaving them in the dryer for the cleaning crew to finish up. Since we had a morning flight out of Boston (3 hour drive min), this can be somewhat challenging to complete. Would be preferable to let the cleaning crew handle the required laundry.

As always, if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. Though the cleaning service does not replenish supplies (I am only one of their many summer clients), you can reach out to me if you are lacking anything. And if you are scrambling for an early flight, please let me know and I can notify the service so they will book additional time for the laundry. It is a courtesy requested by them that the laundry be started so that they can stay on schedule, but courtesy can be offered to you as well. No one should feel stressed at the end of a vacation.

Lovely cabin for a relaxing vacation. Days on the dock soaking up the sun and watching the birds, cozy nights with the fireplace. We went to the Pemaquid lighthouse, Round Pond and Wiscasset for a Reds lobster sandwich and took some scenic roads to see the beautiful fall colors

My husband and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon. We absolutely fell in love with this cabin. Waking up to the lake view, sitting outside with some coffee and a bonfire was our favorite way to start the day there! Made it hard to leave the cabin to go explore Maine since we loved this place so much! Such good vibes. Thank you!

Weekend trip

Beautiful home and property on the lake. We drank our coffee on the dock and watched the lions and birds in the area. This was a very peaceful getaway.

Perfect little cottage in a quiet, secluded setting. This was my second time I rented this cabin (last was about a year ago), and have always found host Natalie to be super responsive and pleasant. Housekeeping is fantastic; the cottage is always spic and span when I arrive. All in all, I give "Little Thumb" a 4 star rating.

The location of Little Thumb was perfect. Our stay on this pristine lake would have been a 10 but the weather didn’t cooperate for 3 out of the four days of our stay. Thanks to Natalie, our host she let us in early our first day and the only sunny day of our stay. We got to see how beautiful the view and lake really are.

I am the mother of two boys and a girl who are all now grown. My husband and I moved to Maine in 1998 and we raised our family here. I was a math teacher. We all love to hike and kayak and explore. When we can, we like to visit National Parks. We've been to 38 so far!

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

Well, my kids wanted to be on freshwater, so I started looking for cabins around the local lakes. When I first visited this cabin it was well-loved but in rough shape. My realtor didn't like it since there were so many better cabins available. But when we stepped out toward the lake I knew we had a rare gem. Very few houses on the lake can claim to have a southerly view, and here it is! We are also in a more quiet spot.

I'm not afraid of a project and couldn't wait to start. First thing was to get the building level. It had been supported by tree stumps, many of which had rotted away. The floors were as level as six kids hiding under a sheet. After that we squared off the rooms and expanded the kitchen and bathroom. The rest of the renovation was just cosmetic and finding fun things at garage sales and rummage stores.

We enjoy watching and listening to the animals on the lake. We often see osprey, bald eagles, deer, beaver, loons, mallards, fox, turtles, bass, barred owls, red-tailed hawks, cedar waxwing, etc.

The best thing is that it is so private. We feel more isolated than we really are. We are only a few minutes from a town in either direction.
