Idyllic antique country cottage in a private setting. Cozy as it gets, and convenient to everything the area has to offer, including hiking, vineyards, fishing, boating, farms, skiing, and award winning restaurants. Ample space in and outdoors to enjoy the company of your loved ones. We are the oldest house in Litchfield, and boast original floors, doors and beams. We have been told The Red House simply hugs you! There are no neighbors whatsoever (by all means play your music!) but there is some noise from the main road which we like to be transparent about. It doesn't bother us, but some prefer a quieter country setting.

What a beautiful home! We came to Litchfield for our nephew’s wedding and this spot was perfect for all 8 of us and our pooch…not only is the home so special, the garden and patio are beautiful…our family enjoyed sitting outside at the start of our day enjoying coffee and the fire pit at night…the home is clean…well stocked with everything we needed…and communication with the Host was easy. We highly recommend this special place.

We loved our stay at the house! It’s in a great location that’s convenient to many spots in Litchfield and the house is beautifully preserved. Lots of historic details throughout the home with nice, comfortable modern updates and a beautiful garden area. I’d recommend this home to anyone looking in Litchfield county.

The property -- home and surrounding gardens -- was just beautiful. The well-established gardens were abundant and well-cared for. The patio was lovely; the outdoor table, with a sun umbrella, seats 6; we discovered it also worked very well in the rain. The house itself was clean, spacious, and overflowing with character (exposed beams, original hearths, lovely wood floors, etc.). We arrived during a hot spell, and the AC (mini-splits downstairs, window units upstairs) worked well given the limitations of retrofitting an old house. On the downside, the kitchen was small, with very little counter space, although it did have a large oven, dishwasher, and fridge. It was, surprisingly, not very well stocked with utensils (e.g. only 7 forks, no bread knife, pans with no tops) or plates (e.g. 10 dinner plates, but no small plates). This would be fine for guests who don't plan to do much cooking; it presented a challenge for us. Overall, however, for special occasions, it is a lovely spot. The location is excellent; we were able to cross the street and explore part of the White Memorial Forest. Nerice, the host, was accommodating and easy to work with.

Thank you Sue, some of these items disappear along the way so we will be sure to restock the missing forks and bread knife! Our property is an antique cottage almost 300 years old. It does not often attract guests who host large dinner parties, as the kitchen is clearly small based on the description and pictures. If you are looking for an event space to cook for large groups to invite in while you're in town, we agree there are better options in Litchfield.

Delightful country retreat

Our group of 6 30-something friends came up from NYC and Philly for labor day weekend. The house was spotless and charming, with ample space inside and outside to relax, and a generous assortment of pantry items and supplies. We enjoyed hiking in the White Memorial nature preserve across the street, tasting spirits at Litchfield Distillery (also across the street) and enjoying the local restaurants. The Gerenas were wonderful hosts, communicating clearly and smoothly the whole time. Thanks so much for helping to make our trip special!

History, comfort, style and location!

Wonderfully relaxing weeklong vacation at the Red House with our dog. The house is charming and historic with modern first floor bathroom with stall shower. Also boasts large smart TVs in living room and first floor master bedroom with super comfy king sized bed. Small country kitchen stocked well for cooking with new oven and dishwasher. Property is fabulous as well, with plenty of space to spread out in multiple seating areas. Great location for visiting Bantam, Litchfield, New Preston, Goshen and beyond.
