Horrible. Arrived in town to find that reservation had been cancelled
We spent a lot of time on VRBO trying to find a great match for work-related travel to Atlanta that accommodated pets, was walking distance to our conference, and allowed our party (one couple and one single) to easily work together on conference preparation, but also to each have our own separate sleeping space. But we were able to find that property; in fact, we eventually found several on VRBO that would work and picked the best one. We made a reservation months in advance. But when we arrived in Atlanta, we found that our reservation was cancelled; we had been stranded at 8pm on the day of our arrival but had received nothing from VRBO to warn that this was the case. VRBO was even requesting an additional pet deposit on the day before we arrived, so there was absolutely no indication that anything with the reservation had been changed. The VRBO agent who spoke with me on the phone to help arrange alternate accommodations for that first night was very sympathetic and helpful. But VRBO policy appeared to be that three adults and two dogs sharing one hotel room with two beds qualified as an acceptable replacement for the two bedroom apartment we had reserved. The next day, we got an email from VRBO stating that we should try to find our own accommodations. We had to take more time that had been planned to work on our conference projects to find new accommodations that matched VRBO’s Book With Confidence parameters. In the end, rather than a relaxing and productive lead-in to our work conference, we had to scramble to locate new lodging and move between hotels, and ended up spending roughly twice what we had expected on last-second accommodations that did not meet our requirements very well. The whole experience strained relations within the group, and I personally got a lot of grief from the rest of the party for having booked a work-related trip through a vacation rental site.
