Everything was great

This is a great property able to accomodate a lot of people and just a short walk to the beach. We rented a couple golf carts and stayed for a month. The trip was great and I think everyone thought it was the perfect place for us.

Paradise

We had an amazing stay at Hilltop House. The accommodations were comfortable and beautiful. Daily swims in the ocean and pool. Would love to come back for a longer stay!

Amazing Stay

This place is perfect. The feeling of unbothered paradise with the comforts of home. Everything we needed was a short walk or less than 2 minutes drive. We will be coming back!

AMAZING STAY

We had an absolute wonderful stay! The house was perfect for our families, plenty of space and the AC in the bedrooms was almost too cold! The view from upper deck is unreal and macaws fly over everyday! The beach is just a short walk and the kids enjoyed the tidal pool. We loved the location and close to most of the tours but yet not in the crowded areas! The host was exceptional at helping us book all tours and chef services! The property manager Fabian was a pleasure! The owners have multiple properties in the area and even allowed us to hang at their beach house on Jaco Beach while the kids surfed! And they have a Castle with monkeys we even got a private tour! We lucked out booking with this host as they made our first experience in Costa Rica unforgettable!

Graduation Trip

We came to CR with 6 adults to celebrate the high school graduation of one. Tha property is a little difficult due to gravel roads and steep incline. 4x4 is highly recommended. The property is stunning, within close proximity to stores, local restaurants, and the beach. Very comfortable and the pool was wonderful. Owner and property manager were exceptionally responsive. All rooms are good sized, observation deck has 360 degree viee of ocean and mountains, and outdoor/partially open areas are beautifully decorated. Would definitely rent again!!

Amazing house

Our family of eight could not have picked a better place very roomie for three different couples and two teenagers. The pool was a definite hit Beautiful The house is centrally located. We traveled to Jaco and Manuel Antonio several times. The streets in this area are very well-maintained. We rented cars and had them directly delivered to the house or they will pick you up at either airport (Jaco suv Rentals.) Fabian and the owner were incredible to work with There are three restaurants right close to the house that are incredible. El patio was our favorite. Lots of spectacular excursions very close. Our favorite was the kayak tour. Nacarcosta Mangrove Tours will definitely come back.

Beautiful views, comfortable house, and responsive manager

The house was very nice. The arrangement was better than I expected from the description of the house. 10 of us stayed at the house including 2 young kids and a baby and we were all comfortable. The suite that was located above the garage separate from the main house was great for my brother and his wife with 6 month old baby. The suite had its own shower and a mini kitchen so they had privacy and comfort. As I read in other reviews, the steep hills up to the house and the driveway was a bit challenging but we managed with our 4 wheel drive rental cars. Fabian (the property manager) was responsive, informative, and essential to the success of our stay.

The place to unwind

The Hilltop House provide the right amount of privacy to disconnect from the grind. Eating breakfast and listing to the waves crash as you watch the Macaws fly by provides the perfect serenity. Easily walkable to the beach or local bar The restaurant at the bottom of the hill provides great local cuisine and the owner of the restaurant gave us a ride back to the house If you need something more touristy. It is a 20 minute taxi ride to Jaco. And we highly recommend contacting the owner. She has a local lady and her daughter that will come to the house and fix meals. They show and bring all the food. She treated us like family and fed us well. Hands down the best CR food we ate was made by her

Pretty good

The house had pretty views, but the drive way was crazy steep. The house itself was really dark. Not much light inside. The common areas do not have air conditioning which made it hard to ever want to hang out in those areas. We had a few issues which the manager resolved. I paid extra for 4 extra people, but when we only had 3 extra people come due to illness, I was not refunded. Overall, it was fine

Unique and beautiful villa

Our family of five really enjoyed our short stay. Everyone had their own space but connected with the pool and observation area on top. Communication was good and the house had everything we needed. The bedrooms all had great working air conditioning. The main house family room didn’t but there were two fans. We walked to the restaurants nearby: Los Almendros - we ate there twice, El Patio - they had trivia night on the Tuesday night we arrived, a lot of ex-pats and American music which was fun, and then Soda Margarita for breakfast. The driveway to the villa was a bit steep for our large SUV but we made it work. The villa is in a small town but close enough to Jaco and Manuel Antonio for more activities. I liked being away from all the traffic and crowds. If you’d like to learn to surf I’d recommend Bretts Boards. He lives in town and you’ll see his sign down the street from the house but we met him at a beach resort about 10 mins away. That was fun. Overall the house was truly unique (especially the amazing views!) and had everything we needed.

Stunning views!

This spot is a bird lover/nature lovers paradise! The absolute best views, we loved seeing all the wildlife and especially the birds <3 We loved the quiet beach and the pool was great! There is no hot tub, its a kids wading pool (not that we needed a hot tub) There was lots of space for everyone, rooms are well air conditioned, and comfortable beds. It's not quiet when someone is walking on the 2nd floor or drops something! Also check for scorpions, our son got stung, but that was the only one we saw, hiding under the bed. It is a wonderfully wild place! Fabian the property manager was very kind and helpful, answering questions and setting up tours and rides, we are very grateful to him! We did not rent a car but enjoyed the hike up the hill, quite a workout! We loved the local restaurants, especially los Almendros, El Patio, and La Chanta!! We did get the private chef one night, but found it very expensive for seafood and then you have to clean up too! We had an amazing seafood dinner at Vista Hermosa. Overall it was a fantastic vacation full of lots of adventure and relaxation. Thank you!

We were not informed that there was no potable water, that we must buy bottled water if we ran out of the two water containers they gave us. Also we must ration the use of water as they have to fill up the water cistern almost every day. The house was not ready at check in and we were not sure if the bed linens were clean as they were all wrinkled … looked like someone has been sleeping and that they just made the beds up for the next renters.The mattresses were uncomfortable and there was no hot water in the main bathroom. The shape of the dining tables were not conducive to have family gatherings. Even though we told them we were going to be 10 people. We found the gas barbecue completely filthy, full of grease and debris. We had to clean it. Also, when we opened the oven door, we found a pan full of rotten burned fat and food leftovers … we can provide pictures. Overall we were not satisfied with the cleanness of the house and cooking was a challenge leaving us no option but to dine out. The coffee machine was challenging to the point that we had to buy a new one for us. Yes the views are impressive but the furniture very uncomfortable. Of ll the houses we have rented in Cista Rica, this was the worst experience

Unfortunately, the entire town was out of water and we filled up the reservoir (water tank) daily with the water truck. This was something out of our control as the entire town was out. The prior renters and the guests after you had zero complaints and enjoyed their stay. The beds I can assure you that all was clean bedding. The coffee machine is and always has been used by guests and zero complaints again. The tables are in all the photos in our description and sometimes we host up to 14 guests. Unfortunately, we had a same day check out and the guests left late after the check out time. As we were trying to accommodate an early check in for you, the pan left in the oven was an oversight. And if your stay was so unpleasant, we would have refunded your entire amount and you could have stayed elsewhere, but we were not made aware of your complications until now.

Great location, view and beach

We loved staying at Hilltop House!! Our group was a family of 6 including 2 grandparents and 2 kids (10-13 years). The house was great!! We loved the pool and hanging out in the “eagles nest” to enjoy the view and animals (several bird nests on the property, iguanas, macaws flying to/from the beach, and even a cane toad) The beach (we drove due to the steep hill) was very close (no issues parking) and great for boogie boarding, jumping waves, tide pools and seeing scarlet macaws (10+ daily). We were there the week after Easter and the beach was practically empty every day (aside from the occasional dog/cat and one time even a group of cows). There is a small bar/restaurant right on the beach with decent food and drinks. The town is small but has several restaurants, 2 small grocery stores, and a place to rent surf & boogie boards. The town is in a great location, about 20 min to Jaco and an hour to Manuel Antonio. If you enjoy being at a more low key place with a great beach but still close to touristy places this is a great location for you!! We arranged for a chef two nights via the host (amazing food although the first dinner the chef made enough food for 3 meals), ate out a couple times, and cooked meals several times as well. Los Almendros is a great place to eat in town. The host and property manager were very good at responding and sorting out some minor issues very quickly. Really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again!

This property was perfect for our family. The 3rd floor covered deck was amazing! It was the perfect place for shade and to escape the heat. The pool was beautiful and refreshing, fabian, the property manager was ni e and promptly reaponsive. We went to the beach a few times during our stay. We loved that there were beach chairs and a cooler at the house to utilize. That made our beach trip much more enjoyable. If you are going to this area in general, you should know that the entire town has no unifoed water source. Water comes from a large holding tank on the property. The holding tank ran out of water at 11pm the night before we were leaving. Text the property manager at midnight to let him know and the water truck was there by 9 AM.Unfortunately , we had to be out the door at nine a m , so no showers for us. It was just bad timing. I think refills are pretty prompt in most circumstances. The water they provide for showers and toilets cannot be consumed. So there is a separate large water jug available for drinking, brushing teeth, etc. My only complaint is it might be time to replace the coffee pot. It was stained and dirty to the point i was not comfortable.using it (note I did not notify the prooerty manager of this issue). They did provide a bag of coffee. I took it down the street to another family rental and made coffee there instead. Overall, we would stay here again!

Beautiful views but rough entry getting to house

We loved the views of the rain forest from the top level. We saw monkeys, toucans, macaws, and several exotic birds. The pool was wonderful. It was easiest to travel to Jaco via Uber and cheaper than renting a car. The road to the house was pretty challenging for our older ones in the group and to Uber drivers. The beach in Esterillos was nice and grocery stores were adequate for simple things. We got most food in Jaco and ate at some good restaurants there. Had a little trouble connecting with property manager but owners were very prompt and helpful. Loved the heat and even humidity this time of year!

40th bday home base a success

Our group of 8 30 somethings - except me the 40 year old - had a wonderful stay at Hilltop House. We enjoyed the different outdoor hang out spots especially the rancho and pool. Amazing views are as stated. A nice walk to beach and a nice walk to the tasty restaurant options and very serviceable market. We were very glad to have a sleepy neighborhood than a busier, touristy destination - felt way more authentic.

Hilltop House

- Close enough to Jaco - Small town with beach access, liquor store, and couple bars/restaurants - Easy to find on and navigation apps - Property manager was responsive and had great reccomendations - The house has plenty of beds, sheets, and towels. They even supply you with 2 jugs of water!

This place is incredible!

We had an absolute blast and this place is the best! The views are amazing, love the little town, it’s a short walk down the hill to the beach! We were a groups of 8 and this house was plenty big enough for us all to have our own spaces but still be together as a group. It was fully furnished and lacked nothing. We couldn’t have found a better place for our vacation. The property manager, Yocseliny, is by far the best around! She gave us all the information we needed, she was always very prompt with any questions or info we needed, super friendly and professional! We will stay here again and again!

Fabulous house with amazing views!

We love this house! Cannot say enough great things, the view is incredible! The house is very spacious for couple families, our kids enjoyed the iguanas that live on the property! The macaws flying over in the morning was breathtaking! We will be back!

Hilltop house

Wow! I am not sure i can put this experience into words. We have rented vacation homes for years and the house was beautiful but the management was top notch. Very attentive and did everything she could to make sure we were taken care of. We weathered a bad storm during our stay and she got the maid, pool guy, yard guy, roof guy everyone out the very next morning to make sure the yard:house was immaculate. Wow the service was indescribable. This was just the icing on the cake for our trip to this beautiful country. Can’t wait to visit again!! Yoceliny thank you for everything!!!!

Great property for family and friends.

We stayed at hilltop house for 8 nights celebrating a birthday with a group of 7 of our friends and family. The house was great at accommodating privacy as well as having multiple larger areas to commune. The 360 degree view 3rd story was great for enjoying sunrises and sunsets. With the naked eye we watched capuchin monkeys come out at dusk and dawn in a tree not far from the property. The pool was the perfect size for everyone to cool off and our 4 year old son to jump in and swim around. We cooked quite a bit and the kitchen had every pot, pan, and utensil we needed to use multiple burners at once. The separate apartment is great for a family traveling with a young child as it has its own kitchen as well as a crib and extra pullout bed. We had a vehicle to get around as the hike down (and up) the hill is not far but challenging — especially in the sun! In town there are a couple of stores that met most of our needs. There are also some great restaurants as well as a fried chicken window. Yocseliny, the manager of the property, was very helpful and prompt at answering questions we had. It was an amazing vacation in a quiet town with some really nice people.
