ADK Riverfront Home - Ski Whiteface, Near Lake Placid

The River House is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom chalet that sleeps 8, tucked away in the Ausable Acres in Jay, NY, right on the West Branch Ausable River. This cozy home is on a private, secluded lot, yet close to many of the Adirondack area attractions making it an ideal location to make your home base during your winter getaway in the Adirondacks.

The Ausable Acres community is located in Jay, NY and is not far from several popular local destinations. Whiteface Mountain, the “greatest vertical drop east of the Rockies” is a short drive away. Lake Placid isn’t much farther and has great shopping and dining in addition to all of the Olympic history from hosting twice, including in 1980 for the Miracle on Ice victory. The property is also centrally located between Santa’s Workshop, the Covered Bridge in Jay, High Falls Gorge, Ausable Chasm & Mt. Von Hoevenberg.

The main floor consists of a well-stocked kitchen (pots, pans, silverware, cooking utensils, drinking glasses, plates, mugs, wine glasses, bakeware, etc.) with a dishwasher and a brand new fridge, an open living room with a 70-inch 4K TV (please note the wood stove isn't functioning), a sunroom with a small dinette as well as some rocking chairs and a small sofa, a king bedroom with a TV and a full bathroom. The 2nd floor was completely remodeled this year with brand new flooring in both bedrooms (queen bed with a TV in the first and a queen over queen bunk in the second) along with a fully remodeled bathroom with a massive walk-in shower and jack & jill sinks. Please note, the wood burning stove cannot be operated as multiple chimney sweeps indicated it would be a fire hazard to use until considerable repairs are made.

As we are a member of the Ausable Acres Property Owner's Association, you will have access to cross-country skiing/snowshoeing trails right within the neighborhood. You will also find ample opportunities to do winter hiking, ice fishing, snowmobiling, dog sled rides and more in the surrounding area.

We stayed for a week and had a great time. The host Dan was extremely helpful. The property is perfectly located for a peaceful secluded feel but is still close enough to amenities and things to do.

Wonderful stay

The house is perfect for a family vacation, well equipped and lots of room. It’s located about 30 minutes from Lake Placid, very convenient in a quiet neighborhood.

River View Was Nice!

Great location along the Ausable River close to great hiking and fishing. Cabin is nicely updated in the living area and upstairs. Host was responsive and helpful.

Riverside retreat

The place was great. Beautiful location right next to the river, walkable neighborhood. Very comfortable, had everything we needed. Close to Lake Placid, Whiteface and lots of trails. Will come back again when we can do more hiking.

Summer getaway

A very quiet and relaxing house on the river. It had everything our family needed. It was a little further from Lake Placid than I had imagined but was easily doable.

Wonderful, secluded home

We had a great stay and enjoyed the property immensely. We had great communication with the Dan and would love to come back. The location is a little over 30 minutes to Lake Placid, where we spent several days. However it's about 15 minutes away from other cute small towns, such as Keene, Wilmington, and Jay.

Mixed feelings about this place. The location is great, albeit about 10 minutes from a main road if you're trying to go anywhere in the area. But it's quiet, in a neighborhood of similar camps, and right on the river. The cabin is a bit run down: one of the porches has a lot of broken boards; the back deck has stairs that are blocked off because some are broken. The couch is pretty sunken in. Many windows don't have screens. The upstairs bedrooms and bathroom have all been nicely updated, although the water pressure leaves something to be desired. Kitchen is solid and appliances are new, except the dishwasher, which was a challenge. Downstairs bathroom and bedroom are both older and could use a good once over.All that said, we were enjoying the place and wouldn't have felt disappointed if it weren't for the following. Upon arrival, I was notified by the owner that the downstairs toilet might be leaking, not to use it, and that he would have to send someone by the next day. So that happened, the toilet didn't appear to be leaking, whatever. There was also air conditioning unit that was really loud and not doing much. I checked the filters and they had maybe never been cleaned. Finally, on the last night there, I noticed that the side garage door had been broken or broken into during our stay. I reached out, expressed my concerns, and we elected to leave just in case. The owner was cooperative and said he'd reimburse our last night, but he never did.

Wonderful stay at The River House

What we loved about the house: - beautiful location, the river & views from the windows - clean! - room to be together as a family or on your own to read or watch a show - clear and prompt communication with owner Highlights of our trip: - riverside fires in the evenings - Summit Loop hike- right in Ausable Acres - kayaking on Lake Eaton, Lake Everest and Lake Placid - fishing up and down the river along rt 86 - riverside dinner at RF McDougal’s - pizza and dessert at Fratelli’s - root beer floats at A&W Thank you, Dan, for sharing your beautiful home! Riverside getaway

The house was great. Beautiful, secluded location, but yet not too remote. The river is just a few steps down the hill. The house and lot were beautiful and spacious. It offers all the amenities you would need for a wonderful Adirondack getaway in any season. And the owners were always reachable to resolve any issues.

Exactly as advertised. Beautiful home in the woods by the river. Exceptionally clean. Loved the no smoking policy. We are sensitive to allergens and scents which made this house perfect for us

Nice place

House was as advertised. Clean and comfortable. We had a drain clog and the owner was very prompt and efficient getting someone there to fix it. Wish the fire stove worked though. Just a little farther than I expected from Whiteface. But all in all very nice place to stay.

Nice getaway

The house was cute, cozy, and was very comfortable for a family of 4. It was bitter cold when we were there, and the heat pump and heater worked well to keep the place warm. We used the fire pit several nights, and the grill a few times. Both worked well. The drive and porch were cleared by the caretakers, too. The kitchen is small, but useful. The only issue we had was that the wood burning stove was not working due to a chimney issue. Otherwise, we very much enjoyed our stay there.

This home is a rare find, situated in a remote wooded setting on the Ausable River away from the hustle & bustle, yet a short enough drive away from local area attractions like Lake Placid, Whiteface, High Falls Gorge, Ausable Chasm, Covered Bridge in Jay, Santa's Workshop and more, along with endless hiking, cross country skiing and water activity opportunities.

The Ausable River in the backyard is a setting you have to see in person - it will make you want to come back over and over. Whether it's the wildlife you may encounter (we've seen bald eagles, otters, pileated woodpeckers, deer and more in our backyard), the fishing opportunities or the peaceful sounds of the water flowing past, you can't go wrong spending time on this property.
