4 Calle Cartagena stands just across Puente San Miguel, the pedestrian bridge that joins Plaza Lucía with Calle Cartagena. In the social tradition of old Guanacaste homes, a long front porch engages with the street. The porch has doors to the front entry and to the kitchen, making it an extension of the interior living areas.

Cooking together is an opportunity to connect with loved ones and to experiment with local seasonings and ingredients. This home’s large, windowed kitchen is up to the task, with a six-burner stove; center island with three stools; and full complement of appliances, pots and pans, dishes, and utensils. Next to the kitchen is a dining room with a table for six.

Common indoor areas offer natural places to convene. The bright and airy living room invites relaxation, with a sofa, two chairs, and two puffs. Kids both big and small will enjoy the media room, which has access to the pool area, laundry facility, and ice maker.

Perhaps the property’s most prized feature is its open-air courtyard, graced by a pool; two loungers and other seating; hammock terrace; covered terrace; and covered dining room, with a cross-barrel vaulted ceiling, table for eight, barbecue, and bar.
