Summary:
Mansion Elena in Potrero is a huge, brand-new 6-bedroom, 6-bath home with a private pool about a 5-minute drive from the beach. It’s located in Condominium Potrero, behind Hotel Mediterraneus, on the road from downtown Potrero that turns into the Monkey Trail, which leads toward Playas del Coco.
The Space:
This spacious new build has views of mountains, pool and lush forest and river (though it’s dry in the dry season). It has a natural, tranquil feel, with sliding glass doors that open the pool, outdoor dining and barbecue area. It sleeps up to 14 people and is great for entertaining.
Two master bedrooms have king beds, en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closets. One has an outdoor terrace with mountain views and the other has a private terrace area.
Bedroom #3 is designed for kids, with a twin-size bunk bed and en-suite bathroom. Bedrooms #4 and #5 have king beds and a shared bathroom. Bedroom #6 has a king bed with en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet.
In total, the home has six bathrooms, including one outdoors with shower and toilet. There are TVs in the living room, the two master bedrooms and the dining room. Every room has air conditioning and Wi-Fi. High-quality furnishing and artwork feature a modern tropical design.
The fully stocked kitchen has a center island with breakfast bar, two refrigerators and an oven. There are two wooden indoor dining tables that seat eight people each, and there are two picnic-style dining tables outdoors.
A private pool with jacuzzi is next to a spacious terrace with lounge chairs and hammock-style suspended nets. The property is gated and alarmed and has a washer/dryer.
The Neighborhood:
Playa Potrero
Offering easy access to three beaches (Potrero, Penca and Prieta), this town combines upscale lodging options with the charm of a traditional Costa Rican town (think central plaza with church, school and soccer field).
There are plenty of restaurants, shops and other conveniences, and the downtown area has two mini supers (convenience stores), as well as a commercial plaza with a coffee shop, a hairdresser and other businesses.
Some of the liveliest nightlife in the region can be found at Las Brisas Bar, right on the beach, though it’s normally hopping only on Wednesdays (Ladies’ Night).
Potrero has several nice housing developments with “Villagio” in the name, popular among Italians and other expats. You can find Italian gelato shops, Costa Rican sodas (small, affordable restaurants) and hotels in a range of prices (Pitaya Lodge, Bahía La Esmeralda, Hotel Isolina, Bahía del Sol).
Just to the south of Potrero lie all the attractions of Surfside, and to the north is a beautiful, hilly drive along the ocean, ending at the Mediterranean-style village of Las Catalinas. Potrero is within easy striking distance of several beaches, and it’s a great base to explore the entire region — for a sampler of both the high-end and the humble.
