Smith Rock Hideout - Cascade mountain views!

Just 8 minutes to Smith Rock, the Hideout is a cozy retreat for climbers, hikers, trail runners, and anyone wanting to unplug and explore the beauty of Central Oregon. Take in the views of farmlands and the Cascade mountains beyond from the covered porch and upper level bedroom. Perfect for 1-3 guests.

The Hideout is my personal climbing retreat. While away, I’m happy to share it with outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy creature comforts after a day of getting after it outdoors.

There is something magical about the Hideout, the daybed with views of the Cascade mountains is the perfect spot to rest, write, dream and rejuvenate for whatever adventure lies ahead. Wifi is provided and there is decent cell service in the area. There is a blue tooth speaker, and Roku TV, and guitar if you feel so inclined.

For recovery, a yoga mat and foam roller are provided. We also have a small cooler for guests to use on outings.

Fantastic

It felt like home when i walked in and it went up from there. Beautiful view, comfy window seat - didn’t use the couch once. I thought the bed & pillows were very comfortable. Quiet neighborhood, good sense of privacy. I'm a female solo traveler and felt safe. Really, nothing wrong with the place, only good.

This home is not appropriate for accessible needs and the property description mentions nothing about that. There are several stairs to the upstairs bedroom and the main bath with shower is downstairs. My wife and I both have handicaps and are 80 years old. We also dealt with little black bugs all over the place and after contacting the owner, she said she reached out to her housekeeper and they were seasonal box elder bugs typical for this time of year and she would address them after we left. That was half way into our stay. An exterminator could have elevated this problem immediately. Also, after an exhausting 8 hour trip from the Austin area, we attempted to check into the property at 3p which was clearly offered on her property description and could not check in until 4p. While speaking with Emily, she brought that up and said in season it is clearly stated that check in is after 4p. Check out the listing. That is not true. We made it work but we would never rent this place again. I actually feel we are owed compensation for our poor experience. We have stayed in many rentals and this was one of our worst experience's! I have never written a negative review like this one and hope not to again.

Unfortunately this was not our best VRBO experience. Check in times were different between what was listed through the site and the actual check in procedure provided by the host. Rather than 3pm, we were told we could check in anytime after 4pm. Not a huge deal, but became an issue when we arrived at 4pm and had to wait for the cleaning service to finish the property. Another notch against this property is the bed and shower. The headboard was broken and the screws in the frame were loose enough the whole bed shifted and squeaked with the slightest movement. The shower head also needed maintenance. Central Oregon is notorious for hard water which had taken its toll on the shower head that had 3 streams spraying in every direction but down. Simple maintenance would resolve this. Overall the home was esthetic, but not functional. If the maintenance issues were resolved I would stay here again.

I stay here when I'm in the area to climb, ski at Hoodoo or Bachelor in the winter, or cool off in the Cascade Lakes in the summer.
