Whatever the season, Retreat in the Sky has something very special to
offer.
Whether you're sport enthusiasts wanting to be located in the hub of all the Smoky Mountain activities... or first or second time honeymooners, celebrating your wedding anniversary or birthday and hoping for that very special place... or vacationers/seniors looking for rest and relaxation.
We offer a fire log burning fireplace, a large deck with a swing to enjoy the beautiful view and an outdoor fire pit for those wonderful campfires (and we supply the wood). Retreat is centrally located for ALL of the Smoky Mountain activities!! We offer a great location. Just minutes to Bryson City, the Gateway to the Smokies... the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad... Fontana Lake, a beautiful mountain lake where you can swim, fish, and rent a pontoon boat for half or the entire day... the Nantahala Outdoor Center for whitewater rafting, ziplining, horseback riding, biking, and fun restaurants... Cherokee, you can try your luck at Harrah’s Casino... Deep Creek for tubing, hiking and picnicking.
Bear Cove Circle is probably steeper and curvier than what you’re used to. Our driveway is steep with a sharp turn but paved and you do not need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We ask our guests to exercise caution with snow and ice and make plans to wait for melting to occur. Consider this part of the charm of being in the mountains.
But...if you're looking for complete seclusion, getting totally away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life...and doing nothing more than relaxing, reading a good book and enjoying being alone together...You will love Retreat in the Sky...the view is majestic and the only neighbors are the birds and occasional wild turkeys that come to visit..

After renting Retreat to guests for 26 years on VRBO we have learned a lot. And we are still learning! We have learned you can't please all of the people all of the time. While a 4 star review is a big disappointment, we will continue to do our very best and learn from it.

You could search high and low but you will not find a place with more privacy or that beats this million dollar view! Everything else is icing on the cake. Stop looking and book this place!!

Our host, Sandy, was super! She was very responsive and thoughtful. We didn’t have any issues but she made sure we were aware of the carpenter bees (we’re familiar and know they don’t bother people), made sure we made it in ok, and when I had a question at checkout, she was easy to get ahold of. She told us in advance that her driveway was pretty steep, and she wasn’t kidding! We live in the mountains but we were sure happy we followed her recommendation to drive the vehicle with 4 wheel drive. The views from the porch made the steep driveway worth it , though - gorgeous!

Future guests please know it can sometimes be challenging to drive to a higher elevation for a beautiful view. In our case, you do not have to drive a four wheel drive vehicle. We head for Retreat every chance we get and we don't have one.

In all of our years of having guests to Retreat we very seldom have had a 4 star review. I do know that we try very hard to offer our guests an enjoyable and memorable visit. Mountain roads can be challenging but who doesn't love a challenge?"

Vacation getaway
The location has a great view of the Smokie Mountains especially the sunsets. It was so peaceful and relaxing which made it so easy to relax which is just what we wanted.

What a wonderful time at The Retreat in the Sky! Convenient to Bryson City, NOC, Andrews Rail Bikes, etc. We kayaked, hiked, relaxed, and soaked in the mountain air. Great host who went out of her way to make our stay outstanding!

We loved the tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. The view of the mountains was beautiful. sunrises and sunsets were gorgeous. The cabin was comfortable and had everything one would need for a long stay. our host was so very gracious and kind, and responded to any messages that were sent. We absolutely loved our stay at Retreat in the Sky, and we hope to make it back. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful place.

Sometimes five stars just doesn't seem generous enough. We couldn't have asked for more! A very private and secluded location, as advertised, with wonderful western-facing views. The home (unfair to classify it as a "cabin") had a wonderful, lived-in vibe, with great character and all the comforts that we could possibly hope for. This is an ideal retreat for a single couple, two couples, or a small family. Close enough to Bryson City for convenience, but remote enough so that you feel immersed in nature. The hot tub was icing on the cake.

We had an absolute blast staying at the Retreat in the Sky this year. My friends & I take this yearly cabin trip to attend a car meet, and we created such special memories this year being at Sandy's cabin! Sandy herself was kind and communicative, and their vacation home was maximized coziness, perfect for s'mores, movie nights, sunsets in the hot tub, and plenty more. We're still unsure what next year brings for us four, but if we stay in-state, we'll definitely book again!

We fell in love with Bryson City the first time we visited. It is quaint, friendly and surrounded by beautiful mountains. We found the perfect spot to build our second home. It's close to the top of Bear Cove Mountain in the Smokies. Our view is beautiful. Retreat in the Sky has a privacy that is hard to describe. Our first home is three hours away and twenty five years later, with our car packed with all our stuff, heading for Bryson City and our Retreat in the Sky, we're still excited.... after all these years, we still can't wait to get there.
Qué distingue a esta propiedad
Sitting on the swing on our deck...enjoying the beautiful view...is the ultimate in relaxation. Retreat in the Sky can only be reached by driving up the private road and then you drive up some more on our paved driveway. We are not on the road so no one can see us or drive by us. So you see, we also have the ultimate in privacy. We not only have a beautiful deck filled with flowers and a wonderfully landscaped setting, but a large screened porch complete with hot tub and a great place to hang out. We're only five minutes from Ingles Supermarket, the quaint town of Bryson City and only ten minutes from just about everywhere else.
We took a survey from vrbo/homeaway a few years back that results showed that only 21% of property owners that rent their vacation homes use it themselves. We use ours every chance we get. Not only because we love being there but because we want to maintain the high standards we set for ourselves in maintaining our beautiful vacation home. .
