Lilac Hill - VIEWS, Privacy, and Design
Summary:
Lilac Hill is a stunning escape in the heart of the Catskills, located just 2 hours from NYC.
Set on 39 private acres with charming views of the Callicoon hills, surrounded by woodlands, the home has 4 bedrooms and 3 luxe baths and is a recently renovated, design-lover's dream. Amenities include a fireplace, firepit, and access to the best hiking and dining in the region.
The Space:
Nestled on a hillside, surrounded by 39 acres of private forest with jaw-dropping views, Lilac Hill is a recently renovated, antique lover’s dream. The driveway winds through the woods arriving at the enchanting green shuttered cottage, seemingly plucked out of the English countryside.
The first thing you’ll notice when you enter the beautifully-appointed living room is the striking view of the Callicoon hills that is evident through the ten foot sliding glass doors. After that, it’s all about the pitch perfect country cottage décor, melding a curated antiques collection with layered textiles, resulting in THE most cozy, relaxing environment. There is plenty of comfortable seating, so you’ll live in this space, gathering around the fire in winter, grabbing a movie on the Smart TV, or simply hanging out and connecting with your fellow travelers. Just outside those sliding doors the patio is perfect for warmer weather dining and lounging.
The chef’s kitchen manages to keep with the cottage theme, but with a distinctly modern edge. The 6-burner Wolf range is supplemented by a wall oven and wall microwave, and the island with barstools is always a popular spot. Once those feasts are ready, the whole gang can gather around the incredible 1700’s antique English farm table. Note the inviting bay window and window seat overlooking that fab view.
On the other side of the ground floor is the master bedroom, also appointed with large sliding glass doors for private access out onto a small bluestone patio. The unique bedframe is an East Lake antique. The master en suite bathroom features a soaking tub, as well as a walk in shower. There is a second full bathroom with a walk-in rain shower rounding out the ground floor.
Upstairs are the remaining three bedrooms, each unique and impeccably appointed, with wonderful artwork, furnishings and quilts. There are queen, king and full bedrooms on this level. The queen size bedroom has handy storage built into the eaves, and a projector and screen is available as an alternative location for movie night. These bedrooms share a full bath down the hallway which includes a clawfoot tub/shower. There is also an office when you need dedicated work space.
The cleared grounds surrounding the house are lush and parklike, with a symphony of blossoms from spring into summer, including stands of lilac (typically bloom between mid May and Memorial Day), magnolia, dogwood, hydrangeas, apple trees and cherry trees. The fire pit and hammocks are sited to maximize exposure to the view, which is west-facing, meaning this property is sunset central.
Centrally located, you couldn’t be in a better location to access the buzz of numerous popular country towns, including Jeffersonville (4 miles) and Livingston Manor and Callicoon (both 15 minutes), with their abundant eateries, breweries and shops. Don’t miss out on area dining favorite, Conover Club, just two minutes away.
The Neighborhood:
