Preguntas frecuentes
Acerca del anfitrión
Anfitrión: Komay Shibata
I am from Osaka and my wife is from Hiroshima.
I was born in 1954 and my wife in 1971.
I am a jazz pianist and my wife is a secretary.
I graduated from Berklee College of Music and lived in the US for a while. After that, we lived in Osaka, but the city was too busy for us, so we moved to Yoshino Village three years ago.
In Yoshino Village, I loved the comfort of the traditional Japanese houses and the rich nature and culture. Living in Yoshino Village has improved the health of my wife and me. My piano playing has also become stronger and more inspired than when I was younger.
Life in Yoshino Village was a different culture, even for those of us who had lived only in the city. And it made us happy.
We decided to start a guesthouse, albeit a small one, in the hope that more people will visit this beautiful and spiritual Yoshino village and become happy.
Por qué eligió esta propiedad
I first learned of this village when the seat of my piano chair was torn and needed repair.
Soft chairs are tiring to sit on for long periods of time, so I went to a lumberyard with the idea of stretching the seat with a wooden plank instead of a cushion.
At that time, I was scheduled to give
a concert at Todaiji Temple in Nara, so I stopped by a lumber shop in a shopping district in Nara and ordered cypress wood from Yoshino Village.
The wood that arrived was very beautiful and smelled great.
Yoshino Village has been in the forestry business for 500 years, and its cedar and cypress are among the finest brands of wood produced in Japan.
My wife and I wanted to see the town where these trees were born. We visited Yoshino Village.
As we got off the station, the mountains and rivers were beautiful and the air was very clean. After walking for a while, we came to a town that looked like something out of an old Japanese movie.
We fell in love with this town and started looking for a house.
Once we settled in, we found that Yoshino Village still retained remnants of old Japan, from the kindness of the people, to the lifestyle, to the food. The day begins at dawn, and midnight arrives just as the sun sets.
At night, deer and wild boars roam near the houses.
Even after three years since I moved here, I still feel as if I am in a movie story.
Qué distingue a esta propiedad
I have a grand piano, drums, and double bass in the dining area of my house, where I enjoy playing jazz music. The dining space becomes a seating area as it is. If you wish, the owner will join you.
Of course, classical pianists are also welcome.
You can also use it for practicing.
If you make a reservation, we can announce a jam session and invite participants, allowing you to mingle with local music hobbyists. Participation and observation are free for guests.
There are replicas of first editions of Japanese literature from 70 to 100 years ago, which are free to browse. Enjoy editorial design by publishers who worked directly with "bungou" writers such as Soseki Natsume, Chuya Nakahara, Osamu Dazai, Ryunosuke Akutagawa and many others.
There is a small store in the same building where you can buy instant products such as frozen and retort pouches, and drinks. Vegan-friendly foods are also available.
