Never ever again
We were a group of seven looking for a stress-free stay before our cruise. At first glance, the property seemed clean, but we quickly realized it was just tidy. We found a large dead cockroach, then saw a live one scurry under the fridge. Further inspection revealed more dead ones. Not being from the island, this freaked us out. I contacted the host, who responded quickly and explained that they spray quarterly, with the last treatment a month ago. He said he'd get back to me shortly with a solution—but we never heard from him that night. A follow-up text also went unanswered. Locals later told us that most rentals spray monthly and that the day just before and after spraying is when roaches are most visible. It became clear that no one had cleaned after the last spray, or they would have removed the dead bugs. We asked them not to spray while we were there and requested a broom to clean up. The host said someone would bring one over—but no one ever came. We slept with the lights on and avoided the kitchen due to food debris between the fridge and counter, which was likely attracting pests. This meant we couldn’t cook, impacting our budget-friendly plans. Roaches may be part of island life, but the lack of communication, follow-through, and pre-arrival cleaning made our stay stressful. In the future, I’ll confirm cleaning and spraying schedules before booking.
