We hand-built the Sparrows Nest specifically to be a vacation getaway property, thinking of everything we can to make your visit memorable. Large bathrooms and bedrooms, luxurious knotty pine living and dining rooms, with our spacious kitchen, hand-made shelves and stainless appliances will greet you. Even better than the listing!

My husband, 14-month-old, dog, and parents all stayed here 1 night for a concert. We LOVED our stay and were so impressed with the cleanliness, gifts, safety factors for our toddler and dog, and the view! Not to mention, the restaurants the listing recommended were fantastic! We really loved Barone's Pizza and Harding's!

Awesome property!

I have stayed in a lot of rentals and this is one of the best ever. The house is charming and simply delightful. We were warmly welcomed by the owner with a bottle of wine and basket of treats, including dog biscuits for our dog! The house is very well-appointed—the owner has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Beautiful dish and glassware in the kitchen—lovely details in the bathrooms—a cozy living area with games and info about the area—no details were overlooked. I can’t wait to stay here again! It is a fabulous place!

Sparrow's Nest Christmas Stay

My family and I stayed for 4 days/3 nights. Sparrows Nest was an awesome stay for our family. Very quiet and clean home. Owners provided a well stocked home for the stay and we were very pleased. We shared this place with our extended family to host our 2024 Christmas party. Owners were very friendly and responded to all questions we had. We will be booking for future stays in Charleston WV.

Lots of extras

We came for work for the week. Thi home was cute and cozy and very pet friendly! Thry had dog bowls, sheets to put on the furniture, utility towles near the door to wipe paws. Yoshi loved the dog treats!! There were treats for us too! Thanks for the wine and biscuits!! The bathrooms were great! beautiful

Couldn’t have asked for more

My wife and I stayed here with our dog for a get away weekend in Charleston. This VRBO is the best one we’ve stayed at by far. Everything you can think of is provided including super soft bedding, towels, and dog treats. Nothing but quality and quantity provided. JD was super helpful, long story short we got locked out very late around 2 am and knocked on a neighbors door who was very nice and then contacted JD who quickly responded and cheerfully helped us get back in. Awesome hospitality and service. Great location, Coonskin park is right around the corner which our dog loved. We will no question be back when staying in the Charleston area. You won’t regret!

Nice getaway

Had a nice relaxing time. So many little thoughtful goodies and notes left to make your stay feel special. Loved the attention to detail in decor of sparrows nest. The kitchen was wonderfully stocked with anything you could possibly need. It was the cleanest place I have stayed at to date. Thank you!

Short mountain stay

Sparrows nest was clean and roomy! All the little extras were really nice and a special touch. We weren’t able to stay long, but I would definitely recommend to others.

Almost heaven in sparrow’s nest

Exceptionally clean. Well stocked. Beautiful dishes. New cookware and silverware. Welcoming gifts. Has it all in this newer built above garage apartment. Very pleasant 7 day stay.

A great retreat!

It was my second time to stay at Sparrow's Nest and it was as wonderful as the last time. It is a lovely decorated home, with a well appointed kitchen. A lot of attention and craftmanship went into designing it. It is very clean with high end finishing touches. It is a great place to relax, from snuggling in the soft , plush bedding to just enjoying sitting on the deck watching the birds at the feeder. It is a great place to recharge.

We had an excellent stay. The house was immaculate. JD has thought of everything. (There were even had ear buds for our use.) We especially appreciated that our dog was welcome in such a desirable, upscale place. We hope to come back again next year in the Fall for colors.

Hickory nuts

Sparrow's Nest is a wonderful place to relax. The attention to detail is excellent. My wife and I couldn't have wanted to anything more. And, the host is great. Hickory nuts falling on the deck was just a fun reminder of being away from the fray and enjoying the moment.

Quick Charleston trip

Wonderful

The Sparrows Nest was perfect for our three night stay. Newly built. Well appointed throughout. Host was immediately available as we were getting settled. The circle around the hill provided a challenging workout as well! Marked as our place to stay when visiting our WV family.

Short Stay Big Property

Top shelf accommodations

From the personal touches of a welcome bottle of wine, to the dog bowls for our 2dogs, the place was impeccably decorated and designed. The owners thought of everything a guest would need or want. The location was a little out of the way and arriving in the evening, navigating the hilly road to the home (with a hair pin turn) was sobering. But the place was so well done and high end, we would definitely stay there again.

Sparrow’s Nest Stay

We stayed at the Nest for the night! We enjoyed ourselves! The attention to detail with all the little extras was so appreciated when you have been on the road traveling from place to place! JD was helpful in offering us many suggestions for our quick trip in Charleston area! We had a great breakfast at Coco’s. We ate dinner at the pies and Pints. Ice cream at Ellen’s! The check in and check out were very easy! We would stay again if we were in the area!

Phenomenal VRBO and hosts!

We’ve stayed in a lot of VRBOs, but this one was truly set apart in all of the essentials they made available! They left snacks, bottled water, bathroom and laundry essentials, and even biscuits to be made. In addition, the property was extremely clean and nice. The location was great, and the accommodations couldn’t have been better! We would definitely stay again!

Amazing experience

From opening the door the first time until closing it to leave, I felt completely appreciated. We had a personalized sign welcoming us, dog treats for our pup, goodies, and even toothbrushes and toothpaste if we had forgotten ours. They even had thought about phone chargers. We will be back!!! Such a relaxing and quiet spot too!

JD Gandee grew up in Clendenin, about 18 miles away from the Sparrows Nest. After living in several different states, he came home with wife Karen. Karen Gandee spent most of her life in Southern Florida. The first time she visited Wild, Wonderful, West Virginia, she was in love (not only with her husband)! We have now lived in WV since 2012. It is our forever home. We built the Sparrows Nest near our home for two basic reasons: One is so that our children and their families, who live in MD, can come and visit the grandparents whenever they want to, and they have a wonderful, roomy, comfortable place to stay. Second is our desire to share the beautiful and amazing West Virginia with as many folks as possible. We are proud of our state. It truly is Almost Heaven.

The neighborhood is quiet. The Nest is at the end of the street, so there is no through traffic at all. The view is really great from the huge deck. There has been no crime reported on Credemont, the hill here, for anyone's remembrance. It's a great place to live, and a great place to come and relax. Relax around the fire pit (we supply the wood and kindling), and roast a hot dog or make some S'mores. Bring your dog and take a leisurely walk or have a game of fetch in our large yard (the only true flat plat on the entire hill).

There are several reasons to stay at the Sparrows Nest. First, you have great hosts who have never hosted before, but are very eager to please! We have custom built this beautiful home with you in mind. The rooms are spacious, not cramped. The towels, bedding, and toilet paper are soft. You will dig your toes into the amazing bathroom rugs. I (JD) built much of the Sparrows Nest with my own two hands, and Karen did all of the designing from paint colors to rugs, dishes, and placement of furniture. You will feel this when you recline in the leather sofa, throw a blanket over you, and doze off to the huge Smart TV. You will see the sun stream through the trees and into each room. Sunrises and Sunsets are equally striking on opposite hillsides. Relax, rest, and recharge. The nest is a wonderful place to roost. Welcome.
