Información de la propiedad
Ausable Lodge Waterfront Cabin at the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge
Ausable Lodge is a Waterfront Lodge on Lake Everest at the 50 acre Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, about two miles from Whiteface Mountain, as the crow flies. Ausable Lodge has 4 bedrooms, two full baths, sleeps ten. and features Hot Tub, Wood Sauna, as well as 2 canoes, 7 kayaks and a paddleboard on Lake Everest. a section of the West Branch of the Ausable River, staggering Mountain views and a great place to swim, fish, kayak and take in Nature’s beauty, as well as hike or snowshoe or cross-country ski on the frozen river in Winter.
The main view from the back yard of Ausable Lodge is Whiteface Mountain to the west and the Wilmington range to the northeast, and there are many Adirondack Chairs, two picnic tables and a dock for swimming, fishing or sun bathing. We have noted the return of our wild bald eagles to their nest at the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, across from our dock on the the Ausable on Jan 30th. If you're a skier, the drive to Whiteface is only three miles.
Ausable Lodge has a brick fireplace in the Living Room, a propane stove in the larger sun porch bedroom, which sleeps 4, washer-dryer, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, oven and carbon monoxide/ smoke detectors. The dining table seats 8 places. The Lodge features fiber speed WiFi, which will enable you to have Internet Access for movies, social media and email. Each sleeping area features bedside lamps with USB charging ports and a standard electrical plug. Ausable Lodge rents for $450 per night or $2,800 for the week. Every room in the house has been repainted and redecorated after Jan 1st, 2024
The owner of the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, Stephen Hall, lives alone in a separate apartment in the north wing of the Lodge with a separate entrance and parking. He spends a great deal of time traveling, looking for wolves, moose and bear, and writing about wildlife, so you won’t see much of him, unless you need help with something in the Lodge.
The Wildlife Refuge itself is a great educational place where the family will learn all about nature, from wildlife to livestock and pets, and their relationship and importance to human civilization. For example, did you ever wonder how cats and dogs became pets or which animal we developed cows and cattle from? You’ll find out here.
The Welcome Center features a ping pong table, as well as a combination chess-checkers-backgammon table. The Welcome Center is a great place to learn about nature, and you may purchase sweat shirts, tee shirts, books, photographs etc. There is an active Bald Eagles nest directly across the river from where the canoes and kayaks are racked, and the nest has produced a surviving eaglet each of the last three years, so bring cameras and binoculars. Nesting season begins in late January to early February, with eaglets hatching around April 1st.
While the Wildlife Refuge sometimes has public hikers during open hours between 10 am and 4 pm, the Refuge is all yours after 4 pm closing. Sit around the campfire or walk down to the West Branch of the Ausable River, and use our hot tub, outside wood sauna, and then the strong in spirit can go jump in the lake! Fish, swim and use our canoes and kayaks along the Ausable, which in this area is also called Lake Everest. Lucky hikers and kayakers have spotted moose, bear, coywolf, fox, fisher and eagles, as well as songbirds and any bird of prey you'll find in the Adirondacks, from owls to hawks to falcons and osprey, in the sloughs, or along the two miles of family friendly hiking trails in the 50 acre Adirondack Wildlife Refuge.
